I took delivery of a BeoPlay A8 purchased from CEX, Falkirk, on 2 September 2026, but upon delivery the one-metre+ box had clearly fallen apart and been crudely repaired with DHL tape; it remained open at both ends and in the middle. I immediately pointed this out to the DHL delivery driver and contacted CEX, explaining that the player had been inadequately placed in brown paper, with no proper protection, and that small items may also have been lost.
Both curved speaker sections of the player were severely damaged - bent out of all recognition - and, although I cautiously connected the unit to the mains through a circuit breaker, it showed no sign of working beyond a flashing red light.
Despite reporting the damage within hours of delivery, CEX has still not refunded me, over three weeks later. On 7 September, Alwin in 'Customer Support' told me that the matter required further investigation before a return & refund could be authorised, but the appropriate resolution is surely for CEX to apologise and immediately return my money. I have heard nothing more from CEX "Customer Support" since this date.
I have been a loyal customer with CEX for many years, purchasing almost 300 items from the company and have spent many thousands of pounds, yet I have been treated extremely poorly and feel that so-called "Customer Support" has been made a mockery.
I have therefore left a one-star review and placed a stop on the payment with my bank while this unacceptable situation continues. read more
