Darius at Hex was the first person I spoke to that gave me any confidence that the laptop could be repaired. I took the laptop to him on Monday afternoon, and he was compassionate, transparent, and very professional in th communicating to me what the timeline and options would be. Hex fixed the computer well enough for me to use an external keyboard the next day and expedited ordering of a replacement laptop keyboard so that I had it back working this afternoon. Very reasonably priced and wonderful service. I could not be more pleased and I highly recommend Hex for your computer repair needs.

The prices here are generally pretty competitive and you will be likely to struggle to find somewhere else that can match both its range of products and prices - I certainly haven't come across such a place. In addition you get very good customer service and the staff know what they are talking about. It's well worth a visit especially if you have any repairs that need doing. I'm no expert on computers, but this does seem to be a good shop.

A few people were in store when I arrived but I got served quickly. I was in about a laptop charger. Staff didn't have it in stock and checked online. They advised me (after checking themselves) for me to replace from Amazon rather than ordering from Samsung as I'd save at least £20. They helpfully pointed out what product code to search for. So, good service and being helpful so I can save some cash. I'd pop in again if I thought they could help :-)

CUSTOMERS BEWARE…read more Just had a very bad experience with these "guys". Took my wife's 7month old S6 in to get the charging port repaired. Whilst I was happy with the timescale (4pm the same day), they proceeded to tell me that the damage was down to my wife "jamming" in the power cable. Not withstanding this, they refused to deal with this under the warranty and a bit of an argument broke out. Nevertheless, as it was to be fixed that day, we reluctantly agreed to the price (very reasonable). When I went back to pick the phone up (3.45pm), I was told that there was a "problem"; even though they said they would phone in that eventuality. It turned out that the screen was not powering up. Now this is where the fun really starts. 1st off, the "Manager" asked if anyone had done anything to the phone before they got their hands on it... I informed them that no one had opened it at all as it was brand new. Furthermore, the only other people to look at it was the Carphone Warehouse Geek Squad who recommended them in this first place as they didn't want to touch it. After the Manager was told in no uncertain terms that information, he started to get "het up" and developed an "attitude". After being advised to calm down, he agreed that he/they would foot the cost of replacing the screen... just as well as he/they damaged it as it was working perfectly well when we arrived; after all they had to get the PUK code from the phone by dialing in the relevant number! Though I wasn't happy at leaving the phone as my wife has MS and needs it, I had no choice. Again I was advised that they would phone and let me know when it was done. I also voiced my displeasure at having to come back into Edinburgh, incurring further expense. Tuesday came and no call. I called that afternoon and was told the part was on order and awaiting it coming in. Nothing else but to wait Wednesday came and again no call. I called mid morning and was advised that the part had arrived and they were fitting it as we spoke. I was asked to call back after 2pm. I called back after 2pm and was told the repair was still ongoing. I called back twice more and on the 2nd one (5.45pm) I was told it was ready for pick up. As they close at 6 and I live nearly 30miles away, that day was impossible. And so to today. I arrived just after 1pm and pickup the phone. I am please to report they did fix it and everything is fine. However the "attitude" soon returned when I asked for compensation for the inconvenience caused to myself and wife, along with the extra traveling expenses. The Manager took over from the shop assistant and proceeded to tell me that the only reason he replaced the screen was out of courtesy to me as the warranty had expired. Again he was reminded that the phone was only 7 months old. He then told me they had found superglue inside the case and that "obviously" someone had been in before him/them to repair it. Again it was pointed out to them that the phone was brand new from the Carphone Warehouse and when told that, he said it was obviously a refurbished phone. Again he was informed that it was not the case and he was welcome to check with them and Samsung! Eventually he relented and gave me a reduction in the cost, to cover my traveling expenses, nothing else. Grudgingly he took my money telling that he had learned a lesson today. When I asked he what that was, he replied, "never give a customer a freebie". I told him the lesson he should have learned was "not to break customer phones". Ultimately Samsung need to do a better job of licensing these sorts of franchises to do their work for them... if you go to them, watch them like hawks and don't take any old rubbish from them!

Apple Stores have become a go-to tourist attraction in their own right for me, when visiting a new city, there's often a real buzz around the store, with many things to do, this Apple Store's location is good, being along the city's main shopping street, Princes Street, while being right by the entrance to St James Quarter Mall, with the Princes Street Gardens nearby. This location is over two floors, but I do think the second lift is slightly hidden, as the staircase and elevator aren't as prominent within the store, on the ground level you have Apple's flagship devices from iPhone to MacBook Pro, and the upstairs focuses on accessories and the genius bar. It's a reasonably nice building but nothing impressive overall, but one thing that let me down, compared to other stores, aside from the appearance of a few minor visual aspects, was the service. I visited this store twice during my time in the city and didn't receive a greeting, not a smile or a "welcome". I originally came in for some advice on cleaning my MacBook, looking for a specific product they would advise me to use, and I was told I could bring it into the store, after telling them I was going to my hotel to get my laptop and return, I was then told they would be unable to do this without an appointment, and they would have no appointments for over 24 hours, with no walk-in service offered, which really annoyed me as they knew I was coming back and could have told me then. I ended up finding the cleaning equipment myself and asked another staff member if I could use it, and he nodded, I'm not sure why the person who originally refused it and booked me an inconvenient appointment didn't make me aware of this option. I also dislike how the store closes much earlier than pretty much any other shop nearby, and does not open evenings, closing at 6 pm daily, and even earlier on a Sunday. Most other shops are open until 8 pm, including in the St James Quarter Mall nearby, which is more reasonable. Good location, but a big letdown compared to other Apple Stores, I'm afraid. 2*

I didn't use them sooner, as it is such a smart looking shop that I thought they would be much more expensive that the cheap looking places, but it isn't and the service and quality of parts and labour is different class. I'd had my iPhone 5s screen replaced at a cheap shop and it broke within days. I kept taking it back, but it never lasted more than three days. He even replaced it again, but that one just broke. They charged £35, but I found out they are using the cheapest possible screens that are £10 from China, and are rubbish. Source charged £45, but it is a great quality screen, it took them 30 minutes and I've not had any trouble in the month since fitting. I know that's just a month, but you can just tell that it is repaired properly with a quality screen and it will last. I then spilt something on my Samsung RV711 laptop keyboard and completely shorted it out. Nothing was working. They usually charge far less for a keyboard replacement, but on the Samsung the keyboard, palm rest and entire top of the base needs replacing. The cheapest I found a second hand one on eBay was £45 , new ones far more. I called around, and some shops wouldn't do it, and one central one quoted £99, just for the labour, and another quoted 3 weeks turnaround. Source ordered the part for next day delivery and then only took one hour to complete the repair. Total cost for the brand new part and labour £79. They said most keyboard repairs are £35, but this is the entire top due to the Samsung design, which is the palm rest, keyboard, tracking pad and right and left mouse buttons. They even fixed my left mouse button for no extra cost. My computer is now working perfectly. I'm absolutely delighted with Source Electronics and won't go anywhere else again. I highly recommend them. They are polite, friendly, very professional and the quality of the entire experience is 5 STARS! TIPS: 1. They open at 9.30am and told me this is the best time to drop off a repair as they have an additional staff ember in the morning and can do the job straight away. 2. Call first to ask if they have the part in stock, if not they will order it and call you when it gets in. My part for the Samsung took 24 hours to arrive. They had the iPhone 5s screen in stock. 3. Calling in advance you can also book in your repair, so you know they can do it while you wait on an iPhone. Plenty of great coffee shops near by. 3. They can also fit phone screen protectors. Even the most careful of us can scratch the screen of our phones, and if you have a screen protector it is that getting scratched instead. When you come to sell the phone take it off and the screen will be as new. The protector will pay for itself many times over through the resale value of a perfect screen. Scratched screens really effect sell on value.

But the biggest shock was when I came home and discovered that the phone powered down - and even after few hours of powering it would switch on for few minutes and then switch off again. Opened it up and found old, scratched battery. These crooks has swapped the battery.
