Delicious candy store. All different types of gummies, chocolates and some of those rare to find candies such as fake cigarettes. The store also has nuts and hot sauces. I'm a huge fan of their Wasabi Peas. I have bought gifts here for people who have everything and each person loved everything that I bought them. It is hard to spend just a few minutes in here because I get mesmerized by everything. As far as parking goes, I think they have a few spots in the lot next door, but I'm not 100 percent sure and they are always taken anyway. I always street park to be on the safe side. read more

Tucked away in a mostly residential corner of Conshohocken is this treasure of a store. It's been here forever, it seems, and carries candies that will likewise transport you back in time. Remember the days when candy cigarettes and little bottles of alcoholic chocolates were de regeur? You know, back when people would laugh at the idea of buying a bottle of water when there was perfectly good water coming out of the water fountains. Yes, back then. Well, Edwards Freeman still has the chocolates AND the candy cigarettes, along with Red Hots, Clark Bars, ribbon candy, Jordan Almonds and just about every "old" fancy candy you saw in your grandmother's candy dish. They also carry nuts, chocolate for baking, candy making, and just consuming, candies from overseas, Torrone (really good Torrone!), a selection of hot sauces, dog treats and some, ahem, naughty candies for those bachelor/ette parties or whatever (remember candy necklaces? Well, picture candy bikini top or thong and you get the idea). It's not a beautiful store, it's cramped and pretty no frills. The staff is helpful but busy. You will find an extensive selection of candies and chocolates and nuts so much that you will have to practice restraint or go broke. I love the cashew butter (unsalted por favor!) here, and although I confess to being a diehard Skippy Extra Chunky fan, I do have a weakness for the fresh, chunky, unsalted PB here. It's literally just full of crunchy peanuts, which I just love. The hazelnut pb is a must-try if you like Nutella; it has a crunchier, more nutty taste and is not as sweet. Get a loaf of whole grain bread and just slather it on a slice or two for a satisfying snack. They also have a good selection of dried fruits, although I find that they are on par with the kinds at Trader Joe's and more expensive. The dried pear is the only fruit that I tend to get here because it's not too tough (Trader Joe's is really almost leathery). Since today was national PB & J day, I had to stop in to grab a jar of the chunky unsalted to go with the Smucker's squeezable grape jelly at home. It was still warm and tasted fantastic when paired with a thin layer of grape jelly and a toasted slice of Arnold's Multi-Grain. While lunching at nearby Totoro's, the owner of the restaurant happened to mention Edwards Freeman. My dad said he was familiar but had never stopped in, so we decided to make a post-lunch visit for something sweet. Within the first five minutes, my dad was picking up ridiculous items like candy deviled eggs with the good intentions of giving them to my stepmom. Cute, but I was thinking she might be more interested in some non-novelty candy, so he eventually settled on licorice and a couple other items which I suspect may not have made it back to Jersey at all. The intoxicating smell of the confections and wall to wall options would make anyone smile, but I think the thing that made me most giddy was the wall of jimmies (sprinkles to everyone outside of South Jersey). I'm talking every color of the rainbow. I'm totes coming back for some of those the next time I want to make homemade cupcakes even more special. It took me about a year of living in Philadelphia to finally get to Conshohocken for some nuts and candies. I was so thrilled to walk into the older building and find rows and rows of almost every candy I could imagine. This shop immediately brought back childhood memories, and I was able to buy candies that I had not seen in years! When I eventually got over all the candy treats, I was overcome with their dried fruit and nut selection. Suddenly I remembered all kinds of muffins and cakes I wanted to bake! I love stopping in before Christmas to stock up on hostess gifts (everyone loves candies and nuts!) and lots of goodies to put into baked goods. My relatives from Wilmington, DE will make somewhat frequent trips to Edwards-Freeman because the store is just so wonderful! This is the best place to get peanut butter, specialty nuts, old and new style candies and a myriad of other things that will bring back your childhood. $10.99 for a 5lb tub of natural (no salt, no additives) peanutbutter? Anyone who doesn't understand the phrase "like a kid in a candy shop" should take a trip to Edwards-Freeman's. You'll understand immediately. When you walk in, you see the nuts, and the peanut butters, and then rows and rows and rows of shelving FILLED with bags of all the loose candy you remember from growing up. I couldn't review NYC's "Economy Candy" without putting in a good word to this place. Edwards-Freeman is one of my go-to places when I am in the Philly area. While the selection isn't quite as eclectic as the insane variety at Economy Candy, this place makes up for it with quality stock and excellent prices. Oh yeah, and having Asher's Chocolate. Tucked away in an unassuming part of town, this Conshohocken staple has almost every kind of gummy (except for the gummy rats, for which you're probably grateful), lots of old-time candy (Mary Janes, root beer barrels, peanut brittle, and even candy buttons), and an awesome selection of nuts, all at competitive prices. It's easy to walk out of here with fifty bucks worth of goodies if you're not careful. I recommend you start with a bag of peanuts (three pounds ought to hold you for a bit), add a bit of something chocolate (malted milk balls, perhaps?), and add a bag of your favorite gummies. One word of advice on the gummies, though. Most (not all) of the varieties have sorbitol as a sweetener. Check the ingredients to see which ones have it. The issue here is that sorbitol acts as a laxative in large quantities, so if you scarf down a whole bag at once, you may be in for a rude surprise, so take it slow on those. They have a sugar-free section, but my sorbitol warning still applies. Don't overdo it. They have two kinds of peanut brittle, though which are in stock can vary. I prefer the dense, peanut packed kind over the old-fashioned, though purists may beg to differ. Chocoholics of discerning taste will find themselves in bliss with the selections of Asher's chocolates. Though pricey, they are well worth it. This chocolate is amazing. Hint: grab a small bag of chocolate-covered pretzels if you just need a quick fix. There's also an impressive selection of those flavored stick candies often found in roadside Americana shops, in every flavor imaginable. The same can be said for their extensive licorice twist selections (green apple? piña colada? grape?). Speaking of licorice, if you fancy black (or red) licorice, they have like a dozen kinds, including the Australian variety that so many clamor about, and yes, it's that good. As you proceed toward the checkout, you'll find the various novelty candies, many imported, and a cold case with an ever changing variety of high quality sodas, most made with fruit juice. Finally went here after living in conshy for almost 6 years just a few days ago when the R6 (excuse me.... Norristown Line) failed to come and we were waiting for the next train. But now that I HAVE discovered Edwards Freeman, I know where my go-to place will be for snacks and candies. I always need to keep my desk drawer filled with a mix of healthy snacks (nuts, trailmix, dried fruit) and not-so-healthy snacks (caramels, chocolates, root beer barrels). Edwards Freeman has all of that and more! No more trips up the hill to Giant for me! I was most impressed by the large selection here. They literally have every type of candy you can dream of. I was half expecting Gene Wilder in a purple velvet suit to jump out of a corner. They also have a wide variety of nuts, dried fruits, and spices. Price wise, it's probably on par or maybe a bit higher than prices at a supermarket/drug store (with the exception of spices, which are ridiculously cheap). But you are supporting a local business and getting a higher quality product. This store is awfully cramped, so I would recommend visiting on off-peak hours to make your shopping experience more enjoyable. This place is a MUST VISIT when in Conshy! read more

I'm fond of this place because we've been going there so long. We used to get bulk tubs of their fresh peanut butter and bulk chocolate to melt down and shape in chocolate molds for Easter and Christmas when the kids were little. And it hasn't changed much in my 40+ years of going there. Real white chocolate, versus those "summer coating" disks, can be hard to find and not all varieties/brands taste right. This is the good stuff. I went there for Easter candy, this spring. I was pleased to see a great variety of sugar-free candy for the diabetic on my list. Chocolate covered toffee, fruity things, etc. A really nice assortment. And of course there was all the novelty and old-fashioned candies, including some versions of candy bracelets I did not know existed and that weren't old-fashioned at all. THEY HAVE CANDY CIGARETTES! How could you say anything but AWESOME about a store that still carries Candy Cigarettes? Walking into E and F is like going back in time. It is IMPOSSIBLE to not buy something. They have Caramel Creams, Gum Balls, Sugar-Free Gumballs, chocolate colored pretzels, Fun Dip, I said Fun Dip!!! They have Bubble-licious bubble gum - I can feel my teeth rotting out now from the sugar ............. It's compact but it's awesome. If you have kids, you just have to go in to grab some stuff. They have paper dots! I never leave without the little carmel squares in plastic, chocolate caramels, caramel cremes and chocolate caramel creams. They have all kinds of candy bars from when you were a kid - they have Charleston Chews! They have Peanut Chews... The only reason you wouldn't go is if you have a peanut allergy - then get someone else to go in - it's ridiculous, it's like being in Willy Wonka's chocolate factory [but a small version]. read more

I drive by this place all the time, and up until recently decided to go in. It is amazing! This has to be by far the best candy place in the Conshy area. I loved seeing the different things they do with chocolate, and the different sized bags of baking/melting chocolate too. My weakness are the chocolate covered pretzels with all the M&Ms and things on them... yummy! We come here every year after Christmas, probably about ten years running. The store itself is great--its wide selection and old-time atmosphere make for a great local candy store amidst lifeless retail giants. They carry a plethora of dried fruits, salty snacks, chocolates and gift baskets--including all the stuff your parents used to get when they were kids. They failed to honor the 10% check-in discount I received, which I wasn't pleased with. They told us it was placed on their Yelp account without authorization...considering my family spent about $200, I would've liked to have been given that discount anyway. Great old fashioned place but was a little pricey. I can get the same honey for $2 less closer to home. One thing I didn't like was the front door locking behind you - you have to go all the way around to get out...or to go back out for a forgotten wallet, etc. I would think that would be a fire hazard, especially with the really narrow isles. My family and I have been customers of this wonderful establishment for more than 30 years. This is the"go to" place to buy candies, nuts for special occasions or everyday goodness. I got married July 28, 2013, and desired to supplement the guest tables with candy dishes at my wedding reception. We ordered several pounds of assorted Asher's milk and dark truffles and Swedish lentils. All of the candies were exceptionally delicious and were devoured by our guests.
