I have used Ed's body twice now, they have done a good job every time and have done their best to be timely. My second visit with that my car was out of service for a month and three weeks due to another driver hitting me, Ed's was supportive through the entire insurance process and gave me their thoughts and opinions and were as transparent as possible about the timeline and making sure that the correct parts got on my car. I strongly advise against anyone trusting or using Ed's Body and Paint. I took my car there over a year ago to have a part of the front bumper replaced and the engine cover under the car replaced. It also needed body work and a paint job on the side of the car. They charged me for replacing the engine cover, but never did it. Before I took it to Ed's the engine cover had been damaged and was simply zip-tied to keep it in place. The zip ties finally gave way, which is how I discovered that the replacement had never been done. Further, they did a very sub-par job with the paint. They just painted the car, but didn't add the protective top coat. I meant to take it back immediately, but didn't. Life was busy. I took the car back and the owner was extremely abusive. He called me names, he yelled at me, he bullied and badgered me beyond belief. No one should treat a customer this way - EVER. Then he told me I would have to prove he hadn't done the work by coming up with the receipt. They have a computerized system, however, my receipt had been hand written. I couldn't find a copy, so this guy is yelling at me and telling me it's my tough luck. He did re-do the paint job, but only after I stood up to him and told him to stop calling me "honey" and "sweetie" and "dear". Why not do a proper job in the first place? Why couldn't he go out of his way to ensure that his customers are happy instead of trying to intimidate them into running away? Abusive behavior says to me that he has something to hide. Or at least it's not worth the pain. A last note - my car door was left filthy. They say they stand by their work. They don't. Stay away. Who wants to deal with cheats and bullies? read more

I love this place. Ed (started the business 30 years ago) and Rich (his son) are fantastic. The service provided was great -- they were VERY responsive, prompt, quickly got an estimate together, were patient when I wasn't sure exactly how I wanted to move forward with my repair (thanks for the time to make a decision I was happy with!), squeezed us in the next day, and got the repair done in 1-2 business days. They let us come late to pick it up. They were just great - flexible, responsive, professional, kind. The price was right as well, and they delivered on their estimate perfectly. Also - here's the "soft" review: I know this has nothing to do with the quality of their work or the cost or professionalism of it (all of which they excel in), but I just really LIKE them. I just LIKE being at their shop. They're warm, funny, don't talk down to customers, answer your questions very knowledgeably and patiently, and they came across as very trustworthy (and they are). They're clearly juggling a lot of people and calls, but still managed to be relaxed and detailed. I don't know how they do it, but I am sure grateful that they do! I feel better knowing that if I ever get into a fender bender again, I know exactly where to go, and that I'll feel great about it. The body shop Hamdenite technicians looked at the back of the car and snickered. Who is the suit dumbass that can't get his stripped licence plate screw off to change the tag? This dumbass was smart enough to take it to Ed's body/paint shop after Firestone on York Road could not have cared less. Ed's is cheap and professional using 3M products. Rich is awesome, and the mechanic froze his tail off in 30 degree weather while dislodging the stubborn screw gratis! K&S is a rip off, who doesn't prime the paint on body work causing the paint to peel in a year. Never again. Ed's mechanic politely reminded this guy that they are mechanics, not just the best body and paint shop in Northern Balmer. Ed's is the easily the best in Hampden. read more

Rich Hershey (son of Ed) runs the business like he's providing service to his own family -- which is good since his mother is likely to be the one answering the phone when you call. He builds relationships with customers through honest work at a fair price rather than trying to maximize profit off one transaction. And don't be fooled by the name; Ed's does minor mechanical repair as well as body work. We have two older cars, a Honda and Toyota Hybrid both long out of factory warranty, and since we discovered Ed's after my wife's car was sideswiped and disabled last winter, we have not needed to go anyplace else for automobile service. If you're looking for drive-thru, computerized check-ins and a waiting room with espresso makers, pedicures and free wifi, Ed's is not the place for you. Brought my car in after a small fender bender and I don't regret it. Came in early on a weekday and had a quick 20 minute consultation. Dropped my car off the week after and they had it fixed in twice as fast as their recommended time, since I mentioned I needed it by a certain day. Plus, they quoted me much affordably than prior quotes. Fast and courteous service! My car was just like new! They wiped down my whole car before returning it to me, when they only had to do the affected area. They went above and beyond. He personally greeted me and we talked at length about what he would do, the timeline, and pricing. The body work wasn't extensive and he finished it within 2 days and had multiple people at his shop check the work to ensure the quality and the finish. Normally body shops would need to blend out the color on a metallic finish, but Ed was able to get a near perfect match for my car which cut out the extra work to blend out. I was unfortunate enough to be hit by two separate cars within as many weeks, both their faults, with minor but annoying damage from each- one culprit wanted to pay out of pocket and the other put me though such an insurance nightmare it was easier to just pay for it myself. After looking briefly around online for local body shops, Ed's caught my eye from its high ratings and positive reviews. The Manager, Rich, was very personable in helping me, and very accommodating. His estimates for both repairs were significantly lower priced than all other local body shops, which was a major relief, and the work was perfectly satisfactory once completed- even to the eye of my father who used to own a dealership and repair center. I don't know about the people that gave this place a one star ... it just doesn't sound like the people I met (I'm sure the person just had a bad day and was impatient). My exhaust pipe finally rusted out and at first I went to Clarks body shop ( DON'T ever go to them btw) and was quoted a price for $1100. I literally probably almost cried my eyes out as I've just moved to Baltimore and had enough expenses as is. My friend told me about Rich (the son of ed) and I decided to check them out. We first met Ed (this guy is great btw, has really great stories about his past life and is funny too). He is super personable and honestly this was the first body shop place where I didn't feel uncomfortable and annoyed. So in the end, I was quoted $315 for everything =D boyyy am I happy !! less than half the price I was quoted . Well they fixed my car in about 2 hours and I can't be more happy. I really highly suggest this place if your looking for someone that is trustworthy, personable and not trying to hustle you for your money. They really are family people, and are looking out for their customers. I know if I have any more car troubles - this is THE place I will be now be going to and recommending to any of my friends. Ed's was absolutely fantastic!! I managed to rip the front bumper cover off of my Accord after getting it caught on something while backing out. All that was broken was a plastic tab, but numerous other auto body places told me that I'd have to get the entire bumper cover replaced for 400-500 bucks. My 13 year old car, though beloved, is barely worth that much at this point so I was not amused. The guys at Ed's said it wouldn't be a problem at all to fasten it back in place- I took it in and literally 15 minutes and two screws later it was looking good as new. They had asked for 10 bucks but I was so happy I threw the guys a 100% tip. I'll definitely be back for any future problems. read more

What a disappointment! After reading the great reviews about this place here on yelp, I was looking forward to having my car repaired at Ed's. But the lack of customer service quickly changed my mind! I called them right before I brought my car in, just to make sure I could get an estimate. I was told it was fine to bring my car in. Well when I arrived, I was told that both of the guys who do estimates were not available...uhh...what!? Keep in mind, only 15 minutes had passed from between when I called and arrived. I was told by the young lady who works in the office to "hold tight" while they try to locate one of the guys...uhh...again what!? She leaves me standing at the garage entrance and goes back to the office. You would think she would have invited me to wait in the office, offered me a drink of water, something! They're unable to locate the guy so I'm told that I can return the next day for an estimate. Mmm...yeah right. If that's how they treat a potential customer I don't want anything to do with them. I had paint job done twice at this place and now I am a believer. The store has a cute, charm city style vibe and their staff is very nice. My first car comes in a special color (Phoenix yellow or something like that) which they were able to match it perfectly. Ed's Body and Paint does great work at a reasonable price. I live near Washington but I happily take my cars up to Ed's for body work. One of my cars had an accident, and the repairs I was quoted in the DC area were $2500. I decided not to fix it, was involved in another accident, and went to Ed's based on the Yelp reviews. They were able to fix the damage from BOTH accidents for $500 less than the DC quotes for just the first accident. They even threw in a free detailing. But most importantly, the work was of high quality. Ed's also did nice work on our second car. Rich, the manager, is very friendly and honest. He really goes the extra mile to make the customer happy. To me, it's a no-brainer - It's worth the drive to know that there is no question that the estimate will be fair, the work will be good, and you're dealing with good folks. read more

Ed's is amazing! My boyfriend needed to get his front bumper repaired. I called asking for an estimate, and the price I was quoted was much lower than everywhere else I had called. We dropped off the car, but hadn't really thought about how to leave from there since it was a bit farther from the city than we thought; they had one of their employees drive our car to drop us off in the city and then drive back to Ed's.
