I had spent several hours in Fort Richmond, in the south end of Winnipeg. I was ready to fetch some dinner and head back to where I was staying to eat it. I did a search and found Edo Japan close by. I had never been to one, so it was fitting to check it out.
It's in a plaza that was new to me. I didn't have an issue finding this eatery. I backed my rental vehicle into a spot steps away from the entrance and then walked in.
I was the only person there when I walked in. A couple of customers entered after me. There were spots to sit down and enjoy a meal. A staffer was mopping the floor. It was super clean here.
I checked out the menu. A helpful woman was there to guide me through the ordering process.
I ordered the chicken and beef teriyaki on rice. She asked if I wanted to do the Edo-versary bento bundle add-on. I said yes.
She was great listing what I could get as my two sides. I went with a California roll and gyoza. I paid with a credit card. It was smooth.
I got my cup. I filled it with Diet Coke. The only reason why my rating isn't perfect is that the lid did not stay on the cup. It was loose and I actually spilled some of my drink on the table. I managed to clean the mess up. I went to ask if I could get another cup. I wasn't sure if it was the cup or the lid that was messed up.
Well, it's the lid. I poured my drink into the new cup and got another lid. The lids don't fit the cups properly. I had to be careful getting my drink from this place to where I was staying without spilling. I was pleased that this eatery has paper straws.
My Diet Coke was yummy. It was cold and hit the spot on a hot day.
It took little time for the folks to prepare my food and pack it up. Edo Japan is different. You normally see staff do the teriyaki cooking on the grill in front of you. At this eatery, it's in the kitchen. You can hear staff cooking your food, but you can't see it.
The food was excellent. The gyoza were pan-fried with a good amount of flavourful filling. The California roll was also excellent. I loved the chicken and beef teriyaki on rice. This place was generous with the proteins. They were tender and perfectly cooked. I liked the generous amount of sauce that I got. The veggies were delicious. The steamed rice was perfect. So good!
I'm a fan of this franchise. I just need to be careful with their drink cups and lids. I hope that issue gets fixed.
