Coming prepared is important. Besides a bathing suit, it would be wise to have a long-sleeve shirt and hat (or a huge tub of sunscreen), some sort of water shoes, and some way of protecting your devices. I got a watertight bag for my phone. They say they'll store your keys, but they didn't remind me and in my haste to hit the water I somehow floated the entire distance with my super expensive electronic car key in my pocket, which neither fell out nor was any the worse for wear, miraculously. You have to pay to get into the state park where this endeavor begins, which in total brings the cost to around $40 a head or so. Which for me was not bad given the experience. I received help getting the tube down to the water and they had some watercraft at the end to gently bump me to shore. They say floating down the river takes two hours; it doesn't seem that long a distance but it is a slow-moving river and my trip took around two and a half hours in the water. Obviously, you can slow yourself down or speed yourself up. The shores of the river were verdant, with frequent houses and docks and a lot of signs saying to stay off of various people's private property (fair enough), but I still managed to find a bit of beach for a brief respite, and the trip ends at a sandbar. Various powered watercraft whizzed by, but they mostly just caused some pleasant waves. Conditions will vary, but I found the water immensely pleasant on a summer day, and on the water I didn't have a huge mosquito problem (I did apply repellent). The depth was such that during much of the trip I was actually floating and could not touch the bottom, but there were certainly places where you could. The inquiring mind wonders whether alligators, snakes, bull sharks, or some other river monster is hiding beneath the murky water, but I observed no such creatures (as a one-time Australian, there's no way I'd get into an Australian river where I couldn't see what was around me). The bottom was mostly sandy, but did occasionally have branches and things, and water shoes do help. I underestimated how much time my legs would spend out of the water and did not apply sunscreen to them; I wish I'd either done that or just carried sunscreen in some container. The end area had brightly colored trip employees to shepherd you in using watercraft, as well as a volleyball net and picnic area for those so inclined. A bus brings you in short order back to where you started. A trip through the surrounding countryside suggests a pastoral, relatively natural environment, and driving through it I always wished there were more tourist opportunities to experience this unique landscape and dodge the heat. today, july 19, 2024 do not use this company- today a group of us checked in, we were told to leave our car keys with them for safe keeping since we could not take them with us on the tubes. while we were gone, one of the little thieves who works for them went into my car, stole my credit and debit cards, (by th way my small purse was under the driver seat) , threw my purse under my car, then proceeded to go to 2 different walmarts and charge $5000 worth of merchandise on my credit card. i received a fraud alert once i returned, because of course my phone was in the car. i have been on the phone for the past 4 hours with the fraud departments of my cards , then spent and hour plus reporting the incident to the dorchester county sheriff's department. to the thieves: you will be found and you will be prosecuted read more

THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Typically, the word teenager is never found in the same sentence with hospitality but someone is raising their kids right. The staff at Edisto River Adventures went above and beyond from the moment we pulled into their parking lot until the moment we pulled out to leave. They were the friendliest staff and truly made us feel like family, visiting for the day. The teenagers running the check-in, made everything super easy and smooth for us. They were friendly and gave us lots of tips, as this was our first time floating the Edisto. We paid $21 per person, they do offer a couple discounts so check to see if you can use those. The prices were more than fair for their excellent service. After we checked in and paid, we boarded a bus and headed for Givhans State Park where we began our journey. The young girl who drove the bus, was very informative and slowed down in several spots to let us see birds roosting, turtles, goats, and she even told some great jokes which our kids loved. Once we arrived to the park, three young guys were already filling our tubs with air. *** They didn't just hand us the tubes and dump us off. They actually walked us down to the river, helped us get settled into the tubes, and pushed us off. They were true gentlemen!!!!! The river flows at a slow pace, similar to that of a hotel lazy river. Our kids enjoyed jumping off their tubes and swimming alongside of us. Life jackets are not needed for confident swimmers. There are several residences along the river. There are also lots of jet skis and boats zooming by but they're respectable of your space. It took us 3-4 hours to make it back to the place you exit but we did stop at a sandbar a little before that spot, to hang out with some friends and let our kids swim. Take lots of waters and snacks, especially if you have kids in tow! Once we arrived back, those same young guys were there to help us get out and unload. We hung around and enjoyed the grounds for a bit. It's very clean and there are lots of games to enjoy...volleyball, corn hole, spike ball, etc. They have port-a-potty's to use, that were very clean and lots of picnic tables to enjoy a picnic. The website said they serve snacks and hot dogs but we did not see this BUT maybe that amenity was unavailable due to Covid. Overall, it was a great day, fun for all ages, and a great price! I will definitely visit again on my next trip to the area! Phone service is spotty all along the river but your GPS will get you there if you plug in the address before losing service. There are dirt roads leading to it but a car can still make the trip. Plenty of parking but it is not a paved lot. Don't forget your sunscreen! *make it a weekend of fun, plan a trip to The Bee City Zoo just a couple miles away! Thanks for the tip guys! read more

Couldn't of asked for a better time with my group of 18 on my Bachelor party! Earl and his family are the epitome of southern hospitality. Not only did he walk me through all the details (multiple times), but did not require any sort of deposit! He drive to Charleston (45 mins away from his home) to pick up our group, prepped our coolers with cold beer and drinks, brought us down the river for a few hours, and had BBQ waiting for us upon our return. Very convenient tubing experience. $21 plus tax gave us a tube, free parking, access to their hangout location, and a shuttle upstream. Food cart, volleyball, and cornhole available. Although the floating time on the river is only 2 hours, it is a great way to enjoy a sunny day. I recommend going on a weekend because they give you a quick ride to the drop off point. It's crazy how much the river twists and turns because only a short drive turns into a decent float! The benefit of going with the company other than the drop off, is you don't have to worry about your own floats and stuff. We spent 2 nights camping at Edisto River Adventures. It was such a blast hanging out with everyone and meeting so many great people. A perfect way to spend a lazy day on the river. Earl his family are great, super helpful. The whole process was super easy, we showed up and had us loaded up, drive us to the drop in point and we were on the river in no time. River was great, slow, lazy, safe, and so much fun for the kids. They got to float and swim all by themselves while the parents kept an eye from a safe distance while enjoying some adult conversation. At the end they helped get all the tubes up and put away while the kids played on the beach and we ate the complementary hot dogs (which were great after several hours in the sun). So, I've lived in Charleston off and on for 50 years. I can't believe I've never floated this river. Coastal Charlestonians don't really float, they fish. However, this place is amazing. If you do not do this while visiting you will miss an amazing experience. Mary was amazing and the property was unbelievable. I would have to go to Morris Island or Isle of Palm to get even close and this is just around the corner. This river has a SAND BOTTOM. for those that do not know, a SAND BOTTOM is a treat!
