Went to Eddie merlot's for happy hour with the wife on a Friday April 17th after work. The general manager Frankie greeted us at the door and escorted us to a table in the bar area. We then were met by our waiter Gerald he greeted us and made us feel very welcome. My wife ordered a dirty martini and i had a Woodford old fashioned. From there we ordered Filet Mignon Potstickers, which were amazing, and the Filet Mignon Sliders, which definitely hit the spot. Frankie asked if we tried the Wagyu Beef Ribs which i said i had been eyeing since i glanced over the menu. To my surprise he brought us over an order and told us they were on the house. The Wagyu Beef Ribs might have been some of the best ribs I have ever tried, highly recommend. After another drink the wife asked for a slice of their famous Carrot cake which never disappoints. The staff made us feel very welcome and we will definitely be going back soon. read more

This was our second time. They were gracious and served us up until kitchen close (the reservation was later than maybe it should of been). So it was very quiet and cozy. Appreciated that they didn't rush us despite the blunder on our part and the service was uncompromising. We enjoyed the Shirley Temples. The bread is quite tasty. The mac and cheese was a highlight. The Brussels Sprouts were crisp and savory. The French onion soup was okay, but would maybe try another soup or a salad next time instead. The Filet mignon potstickers were good. The strip steak was great as was the lobster. The Julian vegetables served with the lobster were okay. Overall a satisfying meal with great service and look forward to a third visit soon. read more

Let me start by saying we were genuinely excited for our first visit to Eddie Merlot's on Valentine's Day. I made a reservation for four through OpenTable and, about a week and a half later, called to add two more guests. The GM told me it was their busiest holiday of the year and they were completely booked from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM with no extra seating available. Our reservation was at 5:15 PM, and we arrived on time. We were told our table would be ready shortly, so I walked through the dining room on the way to the restroom and noticed several open tables and a row of extra chairs lined up against the wall. Shortly after, we were seated. The décor was breathtaking, and our server was outgoing and pleasant. She took our drink order promptly, and the drinks were excellent. We ordered several appetizers: Filet Mignon Pot Stickers (not great), Calamari (just okay), and Grilled Oysters (overpowered by hard Parmesan). I also ordered the Jumbo Crab and Corn Bisque. While there was corn in every spoonful, I didn't get a single piece of "jumbo" crab until the very last bite. For our entrées, we ordered two Wagyu Tomahawks for Two (medium) along with two Atlantic cold-water lobster tails. We also chose four sides: Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Broccoli, Asparagus, and Brussels Sprouts with bacon. The steaks and lobster were presented on a very large wooden board that barely fit on the table, leaving little room for the sides. Unfortunately, this is where the experience became extremely disappointing. The lobster tails were cold. The steaks were so heavily charred that all I could taste was burnt crust. The mashed potatoes were dry and tasted boxed, and the vegetables were bland and uninspired. We were even asked if we wanted the lobster tails reheated--which was surprising, as properly prepared lobster shouldn't need to be reheated. After that, the mood at our table shifted. We were ready to leave. Our server seemed to feel bad and stopped checking in as frequently, which made it difficult to settle our bill for what turned out to be a very expensive and disappointing evening. We were there for over three hours, and the only accommodation offered was one complimentary round of drinks. It was also clear that the restaurant was never fully booked during our time there, despite being told earlier that they were completely sold out. This is the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. We had a reservation at 7:30 and we left at 8:20 and still had not been sat. Nobody told us that they were behind when we checked in. They had no seating for approximately 30 people standing and waiting for their reservations. They had empty tables sitting there for 20 minutes before anyone would clean them. This restaurant had been on my list to try for some time. The pricing is what kept me away. However, I had seen a Facebook post about their Wednesday night specials. For $99, you can get a shared appetizer, 2 entrees, side dish, and shared dessert. For our appetizer, we got the filet potstickers. They were decent. I greatly enjoyed my 6 oz filet. The mashed potatoes were very buttery. The carrot cake was amazing. Cocktails from the bar were tasty, but also pricey at about $15 a piece. Service was friendly, but slow. Came here for our 1 month anniversary dinner. I ordered a Manhattan (scotch, little strong) and a sidecar (brandy, delicious). Since it was Wednesday, we ordered the $99 special. My review is mostly based on the attitude, conversation and comments of the bartender working solo on a Wednesday night. While in town for work I opted to stop by for a cocktail and dinner. While the sea bass and manhattan were good, the snarky comments and attitude of the bartender left a bad taste in my mouth. He noted that he was serving a large party in the main room. As servers came to order/retrieve drinks, he said things like "they know they're being served by a single bartender, they are just impatient, entitled Europeans", and "I mean, they're nice, but they're a bunch of weirdos", and "what? Do they no make jokes in Europe, no one laughed the whole time". I wonder why. He was speaking loud enough to be heard by everyone in the bar area. My wife and I dined at the Burr Ridge location last evening. It was the worst experience ever. Though the restaurant wasn't even half full on a Saturday evening, the hostess sat us at a table the size of a postage stamp. When I asked to be seated at a bit larger table, she felt the need to clear it with the manager which took several minutes. My wife and I ordered drinks from our waiter which were fine cocktails once they actually arrived. Someone other than our waiter arrived with appetizers some time later, but brought me something I had not ordered. I then had to wait on what I had actually ordered while me wife ate her appetizer. As we waited for entrees, we wanted to order wine. No waiter was to be found. After thirty minutes, my wife and I decided to settle our bill and leave. However, no waiter ever came to our table. We tried to attract the attention of a waiter across the room but were ignored. We finally left and went to a restaurant that actually understands customer service. read more

Came to Eddie Merlot's for Happy Hour in the Lounge with family. The lounge offered a separate menu that one needs to ask for when dining (rather than it being placed at the tables). The happy hour itself offers a discount on some of the lounge food but nothing toward drinks. We started with a round of drinks (house wine, white berry martini, and mosquito martini) as well as the spinach artichoke dip. The appetizer could have certainly used some additional pita chips but the ones we got were overcooked. The dip is also artichoke heavy. For mains, we got a majority of the filet sliders and a caesar salad. The salad and sliders were good but slider meat was a bit chewy; sauce helped though. Our server did check in on us frequently. By the time we grabbed the check, the time was 6:46 (16 minutes past happy hour end). The server charged me full price for the sliders that were on sale even though we ordered these well during the correct time. I kindly put my credit card on the table to tell him we needed these items adjusted. He felt the need to grab both the check AND my card off the table and said he would check with his manager (VERY offensive to me). He came back to say the manager took one of the slides off to accommodate the price which was still $2 more. Eddie Merlot's does gear toward an older clientele with its very traditional menu and restaurant aesthetic. If it was not a favorite of my family members, I would not be back based on service/hospitality alone. read more

After hearing very good things about this restaurant, we thought we would give it a try on our 5 anniversary (this happens on Halloween, so pretty easy to remember). Physically, very beautiful. This was and will be our first and only visit. Our wait person was not very professional considering the menu prices. I had to ask her about the specials that were sent via email to me. She seemed unaware of the specials. I think I should have been told first and not prompt the staff to inform me. The food was not very good. Extremely salty, to the point of being almost inedible. We rarely saw our server during the meal. We mentioned the excessive salt to our server and busboy. Both said they would tell the chief. End of story. We also had to box our left over dessert, carrot cake, which was very good. After spending 300 dollars for two people, I was expecting a lot more. After reading many reviews I decided to try Eddie Merlot's. This is what I found. A great place for a special occasion or a decadent evening with your partner. Parking is convenient and plentiful. Noise level was perfect not too quiet not loud at all. The decor is stylish and warm. Service was exquisite, our server from Albania was an excellent human being! Just a wonderful man, I am sorry but I forget his name but he deserves a special thank you!! Food was excellent steak was perfectly cooked and flavor was how it should be. They have 90 and 100 $ special steaks which next time I will try. Tuna wontons were very good, large portion, a bit parochial with the thick sauce but very good nonetheless. Lots of tuna. Excellent They have a nice wine selection by the bottle not overly expensive I got a nice bottle of chianti for $40+dollars. We got together for a girls night at E.M. and we had a great night. The restaurant on the edge of a shopping center, gave off a suburban chain vibe. Easy parking, big and bold; it just felt very styled. Big pillars everywhere, and several connecting rooms, made the restaurant feel grand. Our server was so nice. We weren't in a hurry and she did not rush her service. She was friendly, knowledgeable and remained attentive. We had wine and cocktails that were tasty. Our hot sampler, soups, sides and entrees were all delicious. I finished with lemon sorbet that was bright and a perfect ending to a wonderful meal with friends. I really, really loved this fine dining experience! The lounge was super chic! Beautiful ambiance, especially the lovely soft & relaxing music, excellent food & superb service (everyone from the busboy to the hostess to the server)! I had the sea bass, which was exquisitely flavored with a ginger teriyaki sauce and cooked to perfection! The vegetables were also deliciously flavored with a very similar sauce. Everyone else had the filet mignons and loved them! Caesar salad had a unique flavor and was served more room temp, which is exactly how I like it to be served. Garlic mashed potatoes did not disappoint, either! Just a heads up, the bread was served with spices on it. I believe it was smoked paprika, so just a heads up if you don't like spicy food, that was the only turn off to everyone in our party...Chocolate cake was very good, but I wish it was a bit moister...Ice cream was super yummy and very creamy! The food at this Eddie Merlot is fantastic , the appetizers...get the wontons, get the shrimp, get the tuna . Take a pass on the crab cakes! Good but not great. Dinner you can't go wrong with steak, burger or even the tuna. Side dish sweet potato , truffles fries , skip boring mushrooms Dessert the carrot cake is really the best carrot cake , banana fosters was awesome. Tried the Ahi Tuna this evening and it was done to perfection. Our fabulous server Bruce was his usual wonderful. Love the decor!!

I was excited to try this place. I'm a steak kinda girl so i love trying steak places. We ordered some Ahi Tuna Poke and Calamari for appetizers. Both are delicious. Im not into raw food, but i tried the Ahi Tuna Poke and it was good. Not fisby and seasoned well. The Calamari was perfect as well. It cane with 3 different sauces. Now i cant really determine what saices they are but i did like them. I ordered their King Crab Corn Bisque. Its not your ordinary bisque. Theres something different and special abt it. I would recommend this if you like soup. We also ordered some Cream Spinach and Truffle Fries for sides. I loved their truffle fries. Cooked perfectly. The Prime Rib was ok. To be honest i do prefer Ruth Chris' steak. But goven a chance i would go back and try other things on the menu. Our main server was very attentive and service waa great. There is a guy who collects plates that accidentally knocked something off the tray and into my cousins back who didnt even apologize. We didnt make a big deal out of this tho. Anyway over all. I had my wedding reception (25 people) at Eddie Merlot's in Burr Ridge. It is by far the best restaurant (having several private rooms) in the western suburbs. I give it 5 stars all around. Executive Chef Steve Vanderbaan's masterful and expert culinary abilities were perfection. My guests raved at how unbelievably superb the appetizers were prepared, the Seafood Tower, mini Beef Wellingtons, Filet Potstickers, mini Crab Cakes and Barbecue Shrimp. The main courses including Sea Bass, Salmon and 12 oz Filet, also were each carefully prepared to perfection, and the 4 amazing delicious sides (sweet potato casserole, and mac and cheese (both to die for) and broccoli and asparagus that I actually loved were heavenly. The superb 3 desserts for each guest of Creme Brulee, Carrot Cake and Chocolate Cake were the most delicious finishing touch. And I absolutely must note the services of Brianne and Bruce who were solicitous, considerate and professional--such a great team serving everyone perfectly and did not falter the entire night. We had wonderful music and danced the night away. Eddie Merlot's catered to our every need, with no detail being too small. That night, Sarah, the Manager, calmly helped me every step of the way and seemed to be there whenever I needed her. Alana, the Restaurant's Private Event Manager, took great care and went above and beyond to help us plan our event with her expertise. Given how expensive this restaurant is, I was expecting much more quite frankly. I was taken here for my birthday. We had 5:00 PM reservations on a Saturday. It was rather slow at that time. We only saw one other table occupied besides ours. It took 20 minutes before a waiter came to our table. After 30 minutes of being seated, we had to ask for bread. I didn't see bread at other tables so I assume you have to ask for it in order to get it. The food was okay. Not spectacular given how costly it is. The most disappointing was my filet mignon. I had asked for it to be well done. In fact, I specifically reiterated that because I do not like meat when it is pink inside. Well, when they served my meal, the steak was medium rare. Pink in the middle and there was blood on the plate. Myself and my relative both had French martini's. It was not good. It tasted like lemons. Not at all what a French martini should taste like. My family and I had a graduation celebration for my son at the Burr Ridge location. Our server Jeton was amazing. He was very attentive, patience, very knowledgeable of the menu, and very friendly to my family. My grandmother suffers from early stage dementia and she can be overwhelming at time however, he was very nice and patience with her. Our appetizers, food, and drinks were all served hot and quickly. Could you recall the last time you were treated with complete respect from the staff at Eddie Merlot? Well, I can inform you that my family and I would not be able to. On Friday November 7 around 6pm, I decided to call Eddie Merlot for a carry-out. When the hostess answered the phone it took some time for her to collect herself and give her undivided attention to me. As I began to list my order, I could hear on the other line that the hostess was doing something else, whether that was speaking to someone near her, on her phone, or simply being distracted. At this point, I became frustrated since I only wanted to place a simple order of three cheeseburger meals. Respectfully, I asked the hostess to direct me to the manager to share my concern with him on this matter. Minutes passed and I was directed to the General Manager of Eddie Merlot. The call did not start off on the right foot, the manager failed to properly introduce himself to me or to question what the situation was that I had trouble with. After I explained the issue of the hostess failing to take my carry-out order, the General Manager, Frank Spagnolo, only answered back saying "Would you like to place a carry-out order then?". This comment only created matters worse since I've spent almost an hour just placing a carry-out order for my family and I. Furthermore, a sharp attitude came from Mr. Spagnolo and began to claim that I was being difficult and getting all excited about the issue that I was dealing with. The phone call ended with no progress made and I was left with finding another restaurant that was more than happy to take my order, even though their restaurant was completely packed inside they still managed to take my carry-out order without any problems. With this experience, I advise those who plan on going to Eddie Merlot in Burr Ridge to reconsider your restaurant choice. As a customer I would prefer to not deal with a hostess that lacks concentration and focus, and a manager that can't act properly and address complaints concerning their restaurant. Loyal customers don't deserve to be treated in this fashion or deal with the stress associated with a simple carry-out order. Eddie Merlot, since they have been sold and purchased by a venture capitalist group, has gone steadily downhill both in customer service and food quality. Simply stated it's not the same and there are far better restaurants and steak places in Burr Ridge that would truly welcome your business and treat you respectfully. The food is amazingly good, and consistently good--especially the steaks-- with plenty of variety to suit all tastes, and the drinks are generously poured. But it's the managers, bartenders, and servers that make the dining experience complete. Yany and Zenaida (managers) are always friendly and accessible, making sure their customers and staff are taken care of, Jorge is a welcome addition behind the bar, and Niki rules the bar like a benevolent goddess!
