Out here in Redwood Shores all the garage doors are the same, in my complex at least. You've seen one, you've seen a few hundred just like it.
While I was lubricating my garage door one Sunday, the next door neighbor asked me to look at her door to find the source of the loud noises when it was in operation. About all it needed was some WD-40 here and there. Almost.
While spritzing the hinges, chain, and other moving parts, I discovered that the door was broken. The long, supporting V-beam at the top was nearly cracked all the way through. If the beam severed completely, the door would fall.
On Monday morning, my neighbor contacted Econo-Door Masters in Belmont and made an appointment for a technician to come out and repair the door between 9am and noon on Wednesday.
Micah arrived shortly after 10 am. I was in my garage working on my car. Micah was very careful not to block my garage door with his service truck. My neighbor came downstairs, the three of us talked for a moment, I showed Micah the problem, he got to work.
This guy was great! Not only did he quickly replace the broken V-beam, he checked every part of the opener's system and adjusted a few to their optimum. Clearly, he knew what he was doing. After he finished, Micah clearly explained to my neighbor and me not only what he adjustments he had made but why he had made them. He also give us some tips on semi-yearly maintenance to keep the system working well.
My momma didn't raise no fools, I know conscientious talent when I see it. I pulled Micah over to my garage to listen for any problems on my apparatus. Except for two squeaking hinges I had missed will spraying WD-40, everything was fine. Micah even sprayed some lubricant on the squeaky hinges for me, saying that his conscience wouldn't allow him to leave without making things right.
Micah was maybe the most competent and conscientious service tech I have encountered in a few years. I wish my mechanic, my doctor, or my ex-wife were as dedicated as Micah to doing a good job the right way. Hell, I wish my therapist was as dedicated.
The door works better than new now. The price for everything, parts, labor, travel time, and full maintenance on the door, was under $150, which was a fair price for service of this quality. And cheaper than my therapist, to boot.
If you need work, repairs, or semi-yearly maintenance on your garage door or its opener, call Econo-door and ask them to send out Micah. You'll be glad you did. read more
