We live in Richmond, CA, and had a very difficult time finding someone to diagnose and repair our Mendota gas insert fireplace. The pilot light went out. We tried relighting it but it would not stay lit. Before we found Eco Tech, we had bad experiences with three other technicians/companies: 1st: Never responded to several calls/messages; 2nd: Even though I was clear that our issue was for a gas fireplace, the company sent a chimney sweep to assess the situation and give the estimate. He came in, did not even open up the fireplace, just sat in front of it, looked at it and said "one of our gas fireplace technicians will need to come out to repair--estimate is $1,200"; 3rd: Charged us $256 to come out, take the porcelain logs out, disconnect the wire to the starter, then say he would need to take the whole insert back to his shop [what?], that it would be expensive, so if we "want to find someone else, feel free to do so," then haphazardly stacked the delicate porcelain logs back in no special order and did not reconnect the starter wire he had disconnected. Grrrrrr. Then we found Eco Tech (Wayne). [Cue: heavenly music.] He is in demand so we had to wait almost a month for an appointment. He showed up early (how often does THAT happen, expertly took apart our unit, stated what he thought was most likely the problem, got the part from his truck, installed it--it indeed fixed the issue--cleaned our unit, put the logs back in the correct placement, and cleaned the glass. All for only $288. Eco Tech/Wayne gets our enthusiastic endorsement. If you need a gas fireplace repaired, don't waste your time with other companies in the area-- which we did--just contact Wayne/Eco Tech first. read more

I have several gas fireplaces in my home, one of which is quite old and required a little bit of TLC. I spoke with Wayne from Eco Tech on a recommendation from Blaze Fireplaces and he was able to come out to service the fireplace the following day. He arrived right on time and had my fireplace working safely in no time. He also cleaned it to the point where it almost looked new; the glass, the inside where the logs are housed, and the bottom where all the mechanisms are and where most of the dirt and crud can accumulate. As the cold winter season began, my family was looking forward to cranking up our new (~1 year old) gas fireplace at our home in Southern Marin. Unfortunately, the remote on our system failed to work correctly so that our fire would start normally! We had Wayne out to our house in West Marin to repair a little used gas fireplace which heats our guest room, which was uninhabitable without it. He called to let us know that he would be slightly later than originally planned, which was greatly appreciated. He was thorough and knowlegable and spent the time needed to get our slightly outdated fireplace up and running once again. We had been told a new (and expensive) valve might be a good idea since the one in our unit was known to be troublesome. He recommended a wait and see period before spending the money.
