Even through I had experience with my first child, she not only helped me with my registry for twins, but also helped get my space set up, made sure my breastfeeding was on schedule at the hospital, taught me how to heal from surgery, and how to keep breastmilk and formula stocked on the counter, fridge and freezer (when I wasn't tandem feeding). Beyond that, she taught me invaluable skills and tools to start sleeping through the night with the babies asap. She was generous with answers to burning questions when I was unsure about something. She was intuitive, patient, kind, respectful and thoughtful. At each visit she was able to anticipate ever changing needs, and also came prepared with a new pearl of wisdom for my family. She even helped to curate a team of day and night experts to help with the shifts when she needed a break. As such I received lots of expert insights, and Melanie was always fresh and alert during her shifts. I truly can't say enough wonderful things about Melanie. My babies are much healthier, stronger, and more loved, because she graced our home with her beautiful energy and wisdom.

We ended up needing to switch OB-GYNs in my 39th week and Melanie was supportive and helped talk us through that decision, which ended up being the best decision we could have made. We had Melanie stay on postpartum for a couple of weeks to help with baby's sleep and care and although we have been lucky to have a good sleeper, that extra set of hands at night was super helpful for us to get some recovery and a great start to parenthood.

For a long time I suppressed the memory and didn't leave a review in December 2021 because I was overwhelmed postpartum. However, receiving a recent automated email from the company brought the experience back, and I feel it's important to share a word of caution for other mothers -- especially those whose postpartum experience may not be smooth or well-supported. Like many mothers, my daughter's birth did not go according to plan. I nearly lost her, she required hospitalization in the NICU for respiratory distress, and when she came home she had an extremely severe case of colic. She could not be soothed by anyone except me, including my husband, and the situation in our home was incredibly stressful and overwhelming. When the BelliBind employee came for the first session, she was kind and genuinely tried to help. I have no criticism of her personally. She attempted to support me by assertively requesting that my husband manage the baby so I could have the appointment. Unfortunately, the reality of our situation made that impossible. Our baby was extremely distressed, tensions escalated, and I simply could not relax or continue the session. I ultimately asked to cancel the remainder of the visit. My concern arose afterward when I contacted Princess to request a refund for the remaining unused sessions. I made it clear that I was completely willing to pay for the first visit, but asked if she could consider a prorated refund for the thousands of dollars of services that had not been rendered and realistically could not be completed given my circumstances. At the time, I was in a very fragile psychological state postpartum, experiencing severe depression and even suicidal thoughts -- something I could clearly recognize as an otherwise strong Licensed Clinical Social Worker (knowing postpartum can be suddenly triggering for those who survive childhood abuse/neglect). I communicated this openly in the hope that she might approach the situation with compassion and flexibility. She knew my mission in life was to protect other vulnerable individuals, and I thought in this moment of vulnerability, hers was to look after postpartum moms. Instead, the response I received was shockingly cold and combative. The empathy that had been conveyed earlier in the process disappeared entirely. In my own telephone conversation with Princess, she refused any form of accommodation or refund and communicated in a manner that felt volatile and dismissive. The interaction became so upsetting that my husband ultimately had to step in to try to handle the conversation in order to protect me during an already vulnerable postpartum period. Following our joint attempts to reason with her over the phone and seemingly reaching a mutually agreeable resolution at the time, Princess later emailed to inform us that she decided NOT refund 4 unused sessions, and she requested that I use them in a "2-week postponement period" ... as if our unglamorous situation would somehow magically resolve in 2 weeks. If only the reality of our lives could morph it one of her captivating social media marketing photos in that 2-week period. As referenced in the attached screenshots, she states, "Please note we have offered to provide you with: 2 week postponement of services, once you have more of a handle on your child's needs." Needless to say, the latter comment to "get a handle on our child's needs" was incredibly offensive. Her additional comments were equally perplexing: "I truly believe, as a post-birth professional with a team providing in-home recovery support and newborn care guidance to birthing families for nearly a decade now, that we would be doing you a great disservice by just giving you a full refund opposed to the many options you could use with the care you already have paid for with us." The fact that a business owner of a service directed towards postpartum mothers, could be so rigid, inflexible, and tone-deaf continues to baffle me. Ultimately, I filed a claim with my credit card company, and Chase quickly reviewed the situation and happily obtained a refund for the *unused amount*, as per my request to Princess. This experience was deeply disappointing. Postpartum mothers are often in extremely vulnerable positions, and businesses that market services specifically to new mothers should operate with a basic level of compassion, integrity, and professionalism. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here, and the utter lack of integrity continues to shock me in memory. I can only hope that some version of karma eventually reinforces the importance of genuine integrity, so that other mothers receive what is truly good for them ... even when life has unexpected challenges in store.

She was so real, personable, and professional. She was full of tips and tricks but made it super digestible and easy to understand. Her support leading up to labor was key but having her there for the actual labor process was pivotal. She brought her Mary Poppins bag of items and really just helped us through the entire process. The birth threw us some curve balls and the plan took some twists and turns that alone would have been hard to navigate. We've since moved cross country but wouldn't hesitate to hire her again if we were still in LA.

She's like your emotional teddy bear throughout the entire process. You can't help but feel better all around whenever you meet with and talk to her. She knows just the right words at the right moment to help you feel more energized, calm, or optimistic. Yet she does all that without ever appearing overbearing or "mothering" you. She can switch between being a calming or encouraging ball of energy, and she always seems to do so just when you need it, without ever having to ask. While always supportive, she always finds the perfect moments to challenge you. Monique is always soft, but firm. She never fails to check in on me, the birthing partner, and often brings up ideas and issues I haven't yet considered but should consider. She laid out specific scenarios that helped me think through and prepare for how I could best support my wife.  She has incredibly high social IQ: She is incredibly adaptable and can change her tact and approach with different (and sometimes very difficult) people that we run into. She can instantly pick up the emotional energy and communication style of every person she interacts with, making everyone feel at ease. If you're looking for a doula who can tailor her approach to your birthing partner's personality and particular wants and needs (and be able to know which is which at the moment), who can instantly connect with and endear herself with the medical staff, and who knows how to push back against an overbearing and rude on-call OB without antagonizing them, then hire Monique.  Toddlers love her: We were concerned about how disruptive our 2-year-old might become during our meetings, but Monique knew just how to engage and disarm our toddler. At the end of our meetings, we got a lot done, and our toddler always wants Ms. Monique to stay.  She gives you time & attention: We met with Monique four times in person and really felt that we could build a strong sense of rapport with her well before game day. TIP: Monique purposely limits the number of clients she takes on to practically ensure no overlaps, which is not as commonly practiced by others. So her calendar fills up quickly! She is a walking, breathing encyclopedia: Monique is so knowledgeable about every aspect of the process. There was never a moment where she wasn't able to give us an answer or point us in the right direction when we had questions. And while at the hospital, she could always tell us what the nurses or doctors are doing or will do next, what they're looking at, and likely upcoming decisions we'll have to consider or make next. She's a hawk: She is always paying attention to what everyone is saying or doing, particularly with the nurses or doctors, and spots potential conflicts ahead of time. It's so reassuring knowing you have her on your team. She stays on top of all the to-dos, so you don't have to. In the chaos of labor and birth, the last thing we wanted to do was remember all the different things we had to do and when to do them. She took care of us and everything that needed to be done.  She follows up: Throughout the entire process, even after the birth, it's so clear that Monique cares about you and your family. Most importantly, working with Monique gave us the space to truly be present at the birth of our child, without having to worry about coordinating or interfacing with others, unless absolutely necessary. During my most recent 90-minute massage, the therapist introduced a treatment that was never explained to me or discussed beforehand. I wasn't asked for my consent until after it had already been used on one side of my body. I later learned it wasn't even part of the massage service I had booked. I left with significant marks on my legs for days afterward--something I absolutely would have declined had I been given the opportunity to make an informed decision beforehand. To their credit, management acknowledged my concerns and confirmed that this technique is not part of the massage service they offer. However, the resolution offered didn't reflect the seriousness of what happened. When I respectfully explained why I didn't feel it was appropriate and asked them to reconsider, I never received another response. Everyone makes mistakes. What matters is how a business handles them. Unfortunately, what began as an issue with informed consent ended with poor follow-through and communication from management. After years of supporting this business, spending hundreds of dollars on services and gift certificates, I expected much better. I hope they take informed consent more seriously and do a better job standing behind their services when they fall short.

I have a long list of reasons I regret hiring Keely but all I think that really matters is that I'm certain my birth experience was made considerably worse as a direct result of her involvement. During my labor and delivery she was amazing ! She kept me motivated and encouraged me again with positivity. At our two week postpartum visit she remained consistent with her affirmations and assured me that I was doing everything just fine. Back to labor and delivery. She advocated for me, making sure I knew what was going on at all times. I was empowered in all of my decisions because she made sure I was in the loop. She helped me with different labor positions and kept me company while I was having contractions. She's an amazing doula and I'm so happy that she was mine.
