I was primarily looking for a school that addressed three things that other Atlanta schools can't provide: 1) a diversified experience with multiple disciplines, 2) an actual curriculum that would provide structure to the various lessons, and a path to future belt tests, and 3) some sort of supplemental training that would reinforce what is taught in the dojo. I joined Evolution X and while I have not been a student for very long, it provides all of these things and more: several different martial arts disciplines; a calendar and curriculum that indicates what will be taught, and when (and when it will be repeated in the future); and a super helpful library of online training resources that covers every lesson as you advance through the belts. From a teaching and training perspective, this is a very well-managed school. On top of this, I've found that the other students are helpful and supportive - and respectful of new students (myself included) - making the experience a positive one. Net net: Josh Moree runs a top-notch school for kids and adults alike, and if you are looking to learn about multiple disciplines for comprehensive martial arts training, Evolution X delivers!

I would love to train regularly with Sensei Moree but live in Roswell so doing the drive regularly would be difficult. I come from a different background in martial arts (Yoshukai), so most of the things I was exposed to during the seminars were new to me. Sensei Moree and the other students were extremely helpful and patient with me. They made me feel very welcome, which is not always the case when visiting different styles of martial arts schools. He is a great teacher and explains techniques very well. AKJ incorporates different styles/disciplines in the training- which I think is excellent. If you are considering starting training in martial arts, I highly recommend AKJ. I am confident in saying you won't regret the decision. Osu!

I didn't realize how easy it is to just freeze up and do nothing when someone tries to hurt you, so I think this is a great class to learn basic street fighting. I'm a petite lady and I always worry that a bigger person will try to attack me and I won't be able to fight back, but I think if I continue to take krav maga classes I will gain the muscle memory and strength to defend myself. I've taken kick boxing class and it's great for cardio and strength training but you're always punching an inanimate object (sand bag) so it doesn't put you in the mindset of being attacked by someone. When I took my krav maga class I was already learning how to fight one on one with another person and it forced me to think quick on my feet and attack back. Also, I had my first class with Morgan and she is super awesome! Very informative and her demonstrations make it easy to learn when it's your first time. She also makes it very fun. There's a groupon for this class and they also offer a free first time try out!

Five stars, need I say more? Of course, I will. I stumbled…read moreupon this place while looking for reasonably priced Krav Maga classes. I think they have the best price in town. I am traveling for year, and I needed to learn some useful real life street self defense. I am so glad to have found this place. The classes are fairly small, which lets you get a more personal training. All of the trainers are super awesome (shout out to Morgan!) The best thing about to fit to fight krav maga classes is that it's pretty comprehensive. I heard other classes teaches you techniques, per level. Hence, you will be doing level 1 before you can proceed to getting your hands on to some much more advance self defense ie. Knife defense or gun defense. Hence, you will be doing fighting stances for a while. But here, they teach you the basics, and then also lets you experience various advance techniques. They will ask you "what do you feel like learning today?" And you can tell them, and they can plan for it. Maybe you will get to learn that technique you suggested that day, and if not, they will try to do it the next time. Granted, you will not master these advance techniques right away of course, but at least, they gave you the knowledge to do it. You end up getting better at it, when they go over that same technique on classes later on. So it's a cycle. By doing this, I was able to cover a lot of useful real life self defense skills, and I only had 4-5wks of training before I left. A few examples include: gun defense, knife defense, what to do when you are being hostage (with gun or knife), get someone off of you, etc. Krav maga is awesome. A very useful self defense and a real work out too. If I come back to Atlanta, I am definitely coming here again. I do miss this place!

BUT the bf does. classes are twice a week; every mon & wed from 8pm to 9pm. sometimes the classes may go overtime, depending on the lesson for that evening or if the class started a tad late. the venue is actually called "marietta martial arts". the building holds several types of martial art classes. therefore, if you come in the morning or afternoon, you might see little kids practicing taekwondo or some other fighting style. you start off with nooby level and must go through training and tests before you can advance to the next level. there are NO belts in wingchun. instead, you receive little fabric badges that you can sew onto your shirt. prices range for everyone. there is a trial where you can come and watch OR you can pay to try out the class for a week, I believe? but if you do on plan on taking the class seriously, you sign a "contract" with the payment plan you believe best fits you. the longer you stay, the cheaper it is per month.

I've known the TONG DOJO since I was a little guy in Brooklyn, N.Y. I went there from 8 years old…read moreto 13 years old. My Sensei's were George Cofield and Thomas Lapuppet. They were the BEST Sensei's. We did tournaments, shows, exhibitions and in house competitions. We had the best students with the Twins and a few girls in our class who, if you want to challenge them, you'd better think twice. My best memory of the TONG DOJO is when Sensei Cofield would show the class some new moves, we would run through them a few times and then he would ask us "Got it?", the class would say Got it!, Sensei Cofield would answer back "Sho' Nuff!". The Movie "The Last Dragon" is loosely based on The TONG DOJO and Sensei George Cofield. Sensei Thomas Lapuppet Was a Sensei at the TONG DOJO also. He was a NYC Police Officer. He always had his badge in his visor in his 1968 Oldsmobile Toranado. The car had all Electric seats, windows, mirrors, Leather seats and all the bells and whistles. It was one the best cars I loved to ride in. When I first started at the TONG DOJO, I got my first Karate Gi from Sensei Lapuppet. He donned me the white belt that I would start my martial arts journey with. He also gave me the TONG DOJO PATCH that went on the upper left hand side of the Gi. When I promoted to Green Tip, He colored the tip of my belt to signify my promotion. Sensei Cofield adorned my Gi with the TONG DOJO name written down the front of the Gi in Asian Style lettering. That's when I knew I was part of the TONG DOJO. I miss the TONG DOJO but will never forget the experiences I had there. Next time I am in Atlanta I will visit the TONG DOJO. SEE YOU SOON.
