I contacted these people to set up an appointment to cover up a fairly small scar…read more The website seemed pretty interesting and professional. That couldn't be further from the truth. They asked for pictures of my scar and pictures of what I was thinking of putting over it. The reply I received was so utterly pretentious that I am astonished. Apparently, the "artist" will be selecting submissions "by lottery" and they MIGHT get back to me by August (It is currently mid-January)! I don't know if they just didn't like my ideas and couldn't come up with any original ideas, or if they are just soooo very busy that there are absolutely no openings for the next 8 months.... I am incredibly disappointed with their elitist attitudes and, honestly, my feelings are rather hurt.

The brand new shop is clean, well decorated, and classy, tucked into the same plaza as the Gooding Grille. Audrey, the shop owner and one of the two tattoo artists who operate there, is a compassionate veteran who understands how to lead someone through the steps of getting ink for the first time without making them feel stupid. Audrey allowed my sister to bring me, her husband, and two additional friends to keep her company while she got her upper arm done and she dealt with our chatter and frequent questions with grace and humor. When you go to Sailia Tattoo Studio - you're getting more than a tattoo, you're getting an entire…read moretransformative experience. I opted for the Intuitive Tattoo session - and I know we all use tattoos as therapy in some way or another - but this is NEXT LEVEL. For context, I have about 10 tattoos mostly from shops in NY and Los Angeles, so this isn't my first ink rodeo. So many things to rave about, I could write a thesis on how wonderful Sailia is, how enchanting the studio space but let me break it down in some higlights: 1. Beautiful, comfortable and clean studio space - it's an oasis, your calm in the storm of your life. It's comfortable, private, and chill. A gem if you will. 2. Sailia's technique is perfection - immense talent, absolutely impeccable work. A+ with extra credit. A true artist, above and beyond. 3. The intuitive experience does take a leap of faith, but if you're looking for an opportunity to get to know yourself a bit better, heal some lingering trauma, and walk away with a tattoo that teaches you something about yourself - DO IT. It's a truly unique and unmatched experience. I think Sailia might just be magic. Have you ever had someone create something that somehow reflects your entire soul and makes you feel more comfortable in your own skin? Well, that's what Sailia did for me and I'm still a bit mind blown. 4. The creativity, the patience, the sheer artistry - I can't praise it enough. Outstanding experience all around, if you've been looking for some next level tattoo work, you've found the right place. Enjoy the journey!

After further investigation, I decided to go with Rhiannon who is a true professional and been in business a long time I was very glad that I did. I found a design that was a nice tribute to my Mom, and Rhi made it a reality. It looks even better than it did in the print that I saw. Everything was done with minimal discomfort, beyond some minor pain that went away by the next day. The healing process went very well. I'm not sure when I will get another tattoo, but I will gladly return to Rhi and Phoenix Tattoo when I'm ready.

I had a phoenix tattoo done using reference artwork that showed the direction I wanted. The…read morefinished tattoo ultimately landed quite far from that original vision. I lived with it for some time before reaching back out to the original artist rather than immediately taking it to someone else. We met in person and had what I thought was a very honest and productive conversation. We compared the original reference with the finished tattoo, and the artist acknowledged that she had been burned out and not herself when she did the original work. I genuinely appreciated that honesty and was encouraged when she offered to redesign and rework the piece. After several rounds of communication and design work, we eventually discussed the cost of the correction. Her current rate is $175 per hour, and she offered to perform the rework at her former rate of $150 per hour. I explained that I was completely comfortable paying for any new work or expansion beyond the original tattoo, but given our conversation and her acknowledgment of what happened with the original piece, I did not feel comfortable paying $150 per hour for the entirety of the corrective work. I asked whether there could be some distinction between correcting the original tattoo and the additional work I was requesting. Her response was simply that the $150 rate was already below her current rate. When I respectfully declined to move forward under those terms, the response was, "Ok best of luck!" I don't expect an artist to work for free, nor did I ask for that. I was willing to pay for the substantial new work involved. What disappointed me was the way responsibility for correcting the acknowledged problems with the original work was ultimately handled. Tattooing is permanent, and how an artist responds when something doesn't go as intended matters just as much to me as the work itself. Unfortunately, this experience changed my opinion considerably, and I will be having another artist rework the piece.
