The person at the front desk was so patient and professional, the office was clean and had a great atmosphere and aesthetic, and Mikey, our piercer, was so wonderful! Mikey's work space is decked out in the coolest The Nightmare Before Christmas theme, which happens to be a movie my daughter had a brief obsession with not that long ago, so she instantly was so relaxed considering she was about to have her ears pierced! She was very excited but also expectedly very nervous, but Mikey explained every step so she knew what to expect and it was so quick and over in a flash she didn't even flinch! She absolutely loves her new pierced ears and is looking at them in the mirror every chance she gets. Minimal redness and swelling so far, Mikey gave us some after care instructions and the World's Best Business Card. Little details like that just show that this person loves their career and invests in themselves, and that's a person you can trust to give your kids, and yourself, the best possible piercing experience and outcome. I drive almost 50 miles and probably go past a hundred other parlors to see Annie, both because of the quality of her portfolio and the unique vibe of her shop, both of which fit my tastes perfectly. As somebody who barely has the artistic skills to play Hangman, I'm just utterly impressed at how fast Annie could consult with me today, look at a few disconnected pics and hear my rambling ideas, and come up with a great little piece to help me mark a time and place in my life. When the time comes for the needle to hit the skin, Annie's very efficient, kind, and quick about her work, but still renders tattoos with what to me is an incredible level of detail and texture. Today's piece was a blend of foliage and some stylized insects, and called for some very bold color choices. I placed a lot of faith in Annie to synthesize my nebulous ideas into a piece and I literally could not be happier with how it came out, and the fact that she basically came up with the stencil in about 20 minutes from scratch and then brought it to such vivid life on my shoulder in about 2 hours blows me away. Bottom line is that if you like her portfolio, you won't find a better artist, a more total pro as a tradesperson, and on top of all that a great conversationalist while working, than Annie J. For what I'm personally looking for in my tattoos and the person who creates them, she's officially become my first-call artist, and is in fact the only artist who has ever put ink in my skin more than once; with many more to come. I went back a few months ago to get a finger tattoo. I emailed them the design I wanted, and that seemed to go over well. When he finally shut the fuck up and started actually tattooing (seriously the guy never stops talking), he was really heavy handed, and kept going over the same places again and again, which obviously was really painful. The tattoo scarred a lot, and it's extremely blown out now. Surprisingly, it came out better than my next two visits. I went back to get a quote on a full set of glyph finger tattoos. The guy, Don, told me it would be shop minimum, and that he could do it on the spot, but he had another appointment in 30 minutes (this really made me nervous knowing that he'd have to rush). I only wanted an estimate because I still wanted to make a legitimate design on the computer that would match what I had in my head.. I didn't want him to freehand it. He insisted that there was no point to having a design on such a small area. I took his advice regardless of the fact that I had used a stencil with the other finger tattoo. He barely laid the needle on my skin. After it took about two weeks to heal, I called Don and told him how angry and disappointed I was. He had me come in later that day to have it touched up. I was optimistic, but I really only went back because it would be free. It took another two weeks for the "touch up" to heal, and it looks only slightly better. The lines are completely uneven, different thicknesses, and just plain sloppy. If these tattoos weren't on my fingers, I wouldn't care to have them touched up again. But they seriously look like a five year old drew on me with a pen. Regardless, I won't go back there for a second touch up.
