After about a year of going back and forth, I finally decided to get my first tattoo. I did some…read moreresearch to find a place near me, and came up with Phoenix Tattoo. After further investigation, I decided to go with Rhiannon who is a true professional and been in business a long time I was very glad that I did. I found a design that was a nice tribute to my Mom, and Rhi made it a reality. It looks even better than it did in the print that I saw. Everything was done with minimal discomfort, beyond some minor pain that went away by the next day. The healing process went very well. I'm not sure when I will get another tattoo, but I will gladly return to Rhi and Phoenix Tattoo when I'm ready.

I had a phoenix tattoo done using reference artwork that showed the direction I wanted. The…read morefinished tattoo ultimately landed quite far from that original vision. I lived with it for some time before reaching back out to the original artist rather than immediately taking it to someone else. We met in person and had what I thought was a very honest and productive conversation. We compared the original reference with the finished tattoo, and the artist acknowledged that she had been burned out and not herself when she did the original work. I genuinely appreciated that honesty and was encouraged when she offered to redesign and rework the piece. After several rounds of communication and design work, we eventually discussed the cost of the correction. Her current rate is $175 per hour, and she offered to perform the rework at her former rate of $150 per hour. I explained that I was completely comfortable paying for any new work or expansion beyond the original tattoo, but given our conversation and her acknowledgment of what happened with the original piece, I did not feel comfortable paying $150 per hour for the entirety of the corrective work. I asked whether there could be some distinction between correcting the original tattoo and the additional work I was requesting. Her response was simply that the $150 rate was already below her current rate. When I respectfully declined to move forward under those terms, the response was, "Ok best of luck!" I don't expect an artist to work for free, nor did I ask for that. I was willing to pay for the substantial new work involved. What disappointed me was the way responsibility for correcting the acknowledged problems with the original work was ultimately handled. Tattooing is permanent, and how an artist responds when something doesn't go as intended matters just as much to me as the work itself. Unfortunately, this experience changed my opinion considerably, and I will be having another artist rework the piece.

I just can't say enough good things about Annie J and Positive Space Tattoo. From the minute you…read morewalk in, the place feels just a little different than other tattoo parlors, it's extremely laid back and eclectic compared to the other places I've been. I drive almost 50 miles and probably go past a hundred other parlors to see Annie, both because of the quality of her portfolio and the unique vibe of her shop, both of which fit my tastes perfectly. As somebody who barely has the artistic skills to play Hangman, I'm just utterly impressed at how fast Annie could consult with me today, look at a few disconnected pics and hear my rambling ideas, and come up with a great little piece to help me mark a time and place in my life. When the time comes for the needle to hit the skin, Annie's very efficient, kind, and quick about her work, but still renders tattoos with what to me is an incredible level of detail and texture. Today's piece was a blend of foliage and some stylized insects, and called for some very bold color choices. I placed a lot of faith in Annie to synthesize my nebulous ideas into a piece and I literally could not be happier with how it came out, and the fact that she basically came up with the stencil in about 20 minutes from scratch and then brought it to such vivid life on my shoulder in about 2 hours blows me away. Bottom line is that if you like her portfolio, you won't find a better artist, a more total pro as a tradesperson, and on top of all that a great conversationalist while working, than Annie J. For what I'm personally looking for in my tattoos and the person who creates them, she's officially become my first-call artist, and is in fact the only artist who has ever put ink in my skin more than once; with many more to come. Five stars, only because that's all I'm allowed to give.

Best place to get a tattoo, hands down!…read more Annie has tattooed 5 tattoos on me, all I love! My sleeve, since it's most visible, gets many compliments. I get stopped at least 2-3 times a week by strangers asking where I got my work done. I just love looking at it! Annie is an amazing artist, and all of my tattoos have come out more amazing than I could have imagined! She is so particular with details and shading, they come out perfect. Sometimes I've had an idea in my head, as with my sleeve, and Annie drew something up and I was so impressed she just got what I wanted. Rob, the other artist, while I've personally never been tattooed by him, his work is amazing as well! He's tattooed two of my close friends and I love his style. The shop is clean, the staff friendly and talented. What more could you ask about a tattoo shop? I highly, highly recommend Positive Space!
