It's a bit dated but I could see all the artwork displayed out front was top notch. Emily was amazing! My daughter and I wanted matching tattoos and she did a great job. She drew up ahead of time exactly what we wanted and she took the time to make sure we felt comfortable and welcome. I've been going to Hope St for a few years now . But my most recent visit deserves a review . I had to get some stuff covered up . It's a tough spot to be in in the first place . You feel weird . At least I did . So I went into Hope St and found out it was under new ownership . I spoke with John ( the owner ) about my situation . We talked about my options , what was realistic and what wasn't . We talked about some ideas and made a plan . I pushed for Sunday but John asked if we could do Monday , as it would give him a little more time to work ideas out . I was totally down with that . I left feeling much better than when I went in . I returned on Monday to find John fully prepared for my cover up . He showed me what he had done . I told him it was great and we got down to work . The tattoo came out great and the hang during the tattoo was cool . John is a real nice guy and easy to talk to . His employee Emily was finishing up on someone and then hung around afterwards . It's been about eight years since my last tattoo. I won't name names but I wasn't happy with the place I went to previously. I don't recall how I learned about HST but I can highly recommend it. I visited the shop twice before actually deciding on what I want. My tattoo artist is Kenny. He's great. Very nice. Low key guy. He suggested some design elements that I hadn't thought of and was thrilled with his suggestions. The store is small but super clean and the other artist are way nice too. Hope Street Tattoo is a phenomenal place to get some permanent artwork put on your body. The shop is tiny compared to some others in the city, painted in garish shades of orange and black, and periodically gets filled with people popping in to say hi to artists and ya know what? It really, really feels like a good, comfortable place to relax (as much as anyone can while getting a needle dragged on them) and get inked. The shop is clean, well decorated and feels like a tattoo shop should if that makes any sense. On recommendation from a few other women with tattoos, I hunted down Mariah (who previously worked at Providence Tattoo) to get a planchette device on my arm. I was truly blown away by her professionalism and the quality of work she did. Mariah is caring, considerate and will really work with you to get just the design you want before you put it on your body forever. For instance, upon finding out my weird issues with floating eyeball imagery, Mariah worked with me to figure out a different design to put on the planchette she had originally drawn up with no trouble at all. We decided on a cute, fuzzy little bat who is now my favorite part of the piece. If you're looking for quality work from an artist who is willing to work with you and won't condescend or judge, go to Hope Street Tattoo, find Mariah, and get some ink. A friend of mine, then my BF got tattooed by Kendra Plummley at Hope Street Tattoo. She did a great job on both of them, so I decided to get a half sleeve done on my right arm (I uploaded the photo of Kendra's artistic creation). Yeah, tattoos are painful, but Kendra, Tom, and Luke (who is a hottie) made it hurt so good with their abilities to keep me sane through great music and conversation. Hope Street Tattoo is a cute little shop off Hope St on the East Side. I was initially introduced to this place through a friend. I've had many friends who are very pleased with the work they've gotten from Luke Taylor. Personally, I haven't gotten any work form Luke, but have gotten several tattoos at the shop with Tom B (not sure if he's still there). Again, it's a small shop, but has a clean, super friendly and relaxing atmosphere as well at good prices. Hope St Tattoo is an awesome shop. The guys are friendly and talented and they don't try to gouge you with their prices. The shop is clean and fully licensed and they use sterile equipment. Everyone has all their certifications in place and are knowledgable about their craft. I've had my work done by Lucas here and he's an amazing artist and A+ person. He's friendly, funny, and will take the time to make sure you're getting what you want while still being efficient. The guys here are also non-judgmental about what you're getting. I went to another shop to try to get some work (this place shall remain nameless) and the woman who owned the shop told me what I wanted was "too simple" for her time and wouldn't do my tattoo. Lucas, if he felt my tattoo was dumb, never even hinted he did and seemed genuinely interested in helping me get what I wanted. If you need ink, don't waste your time anywhere else. My husband and I ended up at Hope Street tattoo after a bad experience at Providence Tattoo, and I'm so glad we did! We each got a piece done, his by Jon, an incredible custom piece he drew out for my hubbs, and mine by Mike, an old tv show logo that's freaking perfect. They are amazing artists, really great at what they do, and the prices are extremely fair. The 3 guys that were there when we were in seem like they've been friends for a long time, which makes for a really relaxed and fun environment. Got my first tattoo done at Hope St Tattoo. Now granted, I'm not some tattoo aficionado. I don't know much about the world of tattooing, and I didn't seek out Hope Street because they have some great reputation in the world of tattooing. I just decided that I had a fun idea for something I wanted tattooed on me and I would take the plunge almost on a whim. I picked Hope Street because I guy I sort of know works there. The crew was friendly and talkative - both with me, each other, and the other patrons. This helped to put me at ease and make me not feel like such an outsider. The tattoo artist took the idea that I had and made a great sketch for me - I think his interpretation of my concept came out way better than what I had originally envisioned. Overall the price was less than I would have expected, which was nice. But the quality of the work and the overall comfort level I had there are for more important than the dollar amount. Don't let anyone lie to you, getting tattooed hurts. So it might be a while before I get another tattoo. But when I do, I'll almost definitely go back to Hope St. read more

I went it last summer with my husband. I explained to the man at the counter that I wanted a tattoo on my wrist but would love a recommendation for font. He barked at me to look at a book. I sat down and choose my font. Then I went up to book an apt for later that afternoon. He told me I had to put 100 down and to come back in an hour. I told him I needed to run to the ATM he rolled his eyes and said I want the 100 bc you probably won't keep the apt first tattoos never happen. When I explained it would be my 11th and that my artist had retired and was hoping to find someone new he yelled yep and turned around. Maybe it was bc I'm a woman? I was recommended by a friend to go see Luke. I made an appointment about a month ago and I went in last night to get two tattoos done. From the second I walked in I felt extremely comfortable. He was so laid back and cool and helped me choose the right look/size/font for my arm. He did a marvelous job and was so patient with me during the one on my neck as it was extremely painful! Absolutely love this place. I have been going here for about 3 years. Originally I went to Luke and he did an awesome job, he has a great blend of traditional and new school styles. After Luke was booked up one day I went to Jon Wisehart and was extremely happy with the results. Since then I have gone back countless times. This place has a barber shop atmosphere, you won't find any giant tv's or video games here. Usually the guys are just playing some 80's rock or hardcore. Love this place. This is my first tattoo and may not be my last. I chose Hope Street Tattoo and Luke based on recommendations from my daughter, her friends and Yelp. I gave a detailed design for a St. Patrick Celtic Cross to Luke. It was going on the inside of my right forearm so size and position were critical. He took his time making sure I was satisfied with both. He did a FANTASTIC job with tattoo. I am extremely pleased with the way it came out and looks. Its been less that 24 hours and the compliments just keep coming. The shop is clean, the music really cool and the artists very personable. Awesome and talented staff. Lucas Taylor did a fantastic job on my custom tattoo. He has a great eye for detail and his line work and shading is amazing. I've been wanting this particular design for a while and I am so glad that I stopped in one afternoon to Hope St. to talk to the guys about following through. He was able to complete the masterpiece in two short sittings and the price was perfect for such a great job. It's nice to find an experienced and talented artist who doesn't charge out the ass just because they can. I am thrilled with my piece and would definitely go back for more ink in the future. The only criticism I could provide is that they don't respond to emails in a timely manner, so if you have questions or concerns, I would call or stop in. Other than that, they rock. I liked having a real conversation during the tattoo, which makes the whole experience much better. Everyone was very friendly and they play pretty decent music so that was cool too.
