The playground is very nice, boasting a wood chip floor and containing unique play structures for children resembling a cross between a watchtower and a tree house with a slide attached. The play area is easily accessible via foot, vehicle, or other road-traversable means. A bike rack is located on the side of the play area closest to the Town of Woodway Town Hall. There are both swings for very little ones and ones big enough for adults. Nice if you want to swing next to your young one, or on your own, and are an adult. A picnic table on a grassy patch is located between the wood chip-floored play area and the road. Overall a very beautiful small play area tucked away in the tall trees of Woodway.

There were a few people at the park and a variety of birds were singing. I spotted a bunny rabbit, Rufous-sided towhee, and robin while walking around. A paved path around the park helped alleviate any fears I had of tripping. The grass, playground, and gazebo were well maintained and cleanly. A small bridge connecting the playground area to the gazebo area went over a waterway. Fun place to go on a quiet day like today and do some wildlife watching.

The paint is slowly chipping away. In 2004 I graduated from Sunset Elementary School, a little while after I graduated it was announced the school would close due to budget cuts. The City of Shoreline tore the school down and made Sunset School Park in its place to preserve the land in the case that a new school needs to be built here in the future. Even if a new school is built here it will not be identical to the one that preceded it. Each building and each structure has an identity of its own. I have come here a few times since the school was torn down to walk around and reminisce about where things used to be located and where different activities took place (such as the Walk-a-thon and soccer practice on the field above the area with the playground). The playground has been upgraded since I attended the school, though it was also upgraded when I attended the school. There are two large field areas (one on the upper level and one on the lower level), a sheltered play area, and a large community garden in addition to the playground and a tiny patch of wooded play area. While attending elementary school I was playing tag with some classmates and said "bite me" to one of the boys who decided to take the idiom literally instead of figuratively as I meant it and bit me without my consent... ahhh the physical assaults of elementary school. Still love the trees though, trees this big and old are an extreme rarity at urban schools these days. Means a lot to me that they have chosen to keep them around. The park can get a bit busy, something to keep in mind if you are looking for a quiet secluded place to walk, play, or relax. Beautiful park and location.

Serene little park that offers a shady respite for people & their littles, including fur babies…read more I've not mastered the ins & outs of the trails bc I'm admittedly directionally challenged, but there's basically a corridor path that runs down the middle, and meandering paths on either side. It's peaceful & shaded- usually quiet. We appreciate having such a great park minutes from home.

Hamlin Park is a lovely place to go on a walk and enjoy the tall trees and wildlife. Trails run…read morethroughout the park and one of the paths (the main one I suppose) has white trail markers indicating in what direction to proceed to stay on the trail at forks in the trail. We didn't realize these were trail markers until towards the end of our walk today... we ended up going in the reverse direction around the trails. Runners, dog walkers, children in camp, and walkers abounded this morning. Along one of the trails there are restoration in progress areas where one can get involved in environmental stewardship if so inclined. Posted signs provide contact information on where to seek more information about this. The birds loved this portion of the trail and we heard a variety of different bird songs as we traversed this area. Wildflowers and plants in the park were beautiful and captivated my attention while exploring. On a more industrial note, there are big guns (I call them cannons) from the 1800s located by the playground. An essential stop if you want a fun photo-op and to learn a little bit of war history on your visit. My mom and I both enjoyed our visit today, Tuesday the 21st of July 2020, and found Hamlin Park a place we both are interested in revisiting. The parking lots didn't have many cars when we arrived around 9 a.m. but by the time we left, a little after 10 a.m., the parking lot we had parked in was about half full. The morning sun and cool air was very refreshing for a forecasted hot day.
