This place is a joke. We brought our dell in here 3 weeks ago and were told the part would be in in 3 days and the computer would be repaired soon after that. I called a week after dropping it off and the part hadn't even come in yet which would of been understandable if they would of called and told us. The owner was unbelievably rude and after arguing with me for 10 minutes finally told me just a couple more days. Well that was 12 days ago so I called again today and the guy had no idea who I was or where my computer was. 5 minutes on hold and he tells me he doesn't know if its fixed yet and he has to call me back. I am so beyond infuriated with this place. I would save your money and time and go somewhere else. Update: Well I never got a call back so I called them again and the owner said he was busy and hung up on me. He then called me back saying our computer still didn't work and they need to keep it for another month. I said no thanks and went and picked it up and noticed the hack job they did on it. I will NEVER EVER go there again! I'm still in shock with how horrible the customer service was. read more

My USB flash drive fried so I lost all of my important files for work/personal. I was panicked so I called EC Computers and Patricio said it shouldn't be a problem and he should be able to recover my files. I brought it in and within a few days he got all of my files back and then some for a reasonable price. He's super friendly and knowledgeable with 29 years of experience, I felt I could completely trust him to get this done. He was an absolute life saver!!! Thanks a million Patricio! I had previously left a review that related a similar experience I had with this place. I do not understand how they stay in business. No calls, sarcasm and they didn't REPAIR MY COMPUTER!!! Here's the review I wrote on Yahoo: Without turning this into a rant let me say that I hope your experience is better than mine. I took my PC in because it periodically doesn't send a signal to the monitor. I asked them to diagnose the problem and give me a call with an estimate on the repair. The guy says to give him a couple of days. Five days later I walk in and ask about my PC and he says it's fixed, it had a virus, that will be $150.00... I told him I was expecting a call with an estimate, what if I don't have $150.00? He said he'd make a note to call me in the future and he knocked off $50.00. I thought, well, that's a quick and generous gesture and I had a working computer again. I paid him and said, thanks, now the computer is working fine? He said "yes". I said, "so you fixed the problem?" He said, "well I'm not saying that." I thought he was kidding. The computer worked for less than twelve hours after leaving the store. Just horrible service, amazed that they aren't boarded up like most of the little shops in Des Moines. Another repair shop shop replaced the video card. It works fine now. I have been bring my laptops and P.C's to EC Computers for over 5 years now. The reason I continue to use EC Computers is Patricio, the owner. Computer repair is much like automotive repair. You can be lied to and severely taken advantage of. This can cost a small fortune. Fortunately Patricio is an honest business owner. I am a busy person and don't have time or all the expertise to do my own repairs, however, I am Microsoft A+ certified. I can build a computer from scratch. I have questioned EC Computers about the repairs they have recommend. I have never found them to be unfair , or stretching the envelope of necessity. The devil in the details that is computer software, is the nemesis of most computer problems. EC, and Patricio are as good as you will ever find regarding hardware and , most importantly software. Patricio is as honest as the day is long. Today Patricio knowing I needed my laptop repaired for a legal defense case involving the government, called me at 10:30 P.M. to tell me my laptop was ready. He actually worked until after 10 o'clock at night just for me. Business owners like Patricio are getting hard to come by. He originates from Chili and has an old school work ethic. He worked on removing deeply infected viruses for hours and yet he charged for only 1 hour of his time. I am very grateful to Patricio as I am now disabled with very little funds available. Patricio looks at people as a human being , not with dollar signs in his eyes. EC Computers possess something increasingly rare in today's business world.... He has empathy for his customers. I read a couple of Yelp reviews that were a bit negative regarding EC Computers. I don't understand how anyone other than a difficult and mistaken individual could come away from what has always been a totally positive experience for myself, as well as several friends that I have referred to EC Computers. I just got my laptop back from a repair job at EC Computers and I couldn't be happier. It was infected by a virus that froze everything up. Patricio Mendoza, owner, knew right away what the problem was and what needed to be done to get me back in business. He was a man of his word and carefully explained to me, in layman's terms, what he would be doing, the time required, and the cost. This is why I like doing business with locally owned companies. Once I picked up the device and started working on it, I even received a text from Patricio following up to see how I was doing. I have never received such a contact from any big-box dealer that I have worked with previously. A few years ago the power button on our old laptop stopped working. We took it down to EC Computers and it was fixed within a few days. The price was reasonable and the replacement power button continued to function properly until the laptop died. read more

Well, first the back story. My computer was running like an Olympic champ on Windows 7 when Windows 10 decided to install itself. I'm an old dog that really doesn't like to learn new tricks unless absolutely necessary and Windows 10 doesn't qualify as necessary to me. So, I followed the MS instruction to reverse back to Windows 7. Suddenly, I had no OS and all my tech friends couldn't figure out how to fix it OR remove my data. I've never had to take a computer anywhere because there are so many Intel and Microsoft employees in my family or friends circle so I was stumped. EC Computers is right down the road from me and I also like to support local businesses so I thought I would give them a try. I found the owner to be very friendly and patient while he explained to me what he would do.....at that point, I just wanted my son's graduation photos saved as I hadn't backed my computer up in a long time. (And yes, I realize I could have saved a lot of heartache if I had backed up but I like living on the edge apparently.) Anyway, I had my computer back in a couple weeks with all my data restored. The owner explained everything throughly and simply so I understood where I went wrong in reversing to Windows 7. When I inquired as to the anticipated longevity of my computer, he replied that he wished he could sell me something but, that in reality, I have a good machine (shout out to my 19 year old son who built this machine 3 years ago). All in all, my experience was very good and I will use this business again. It was great to be able to talk to the person who worked on my machine rather than a salesman at a big box store. Due to some unfortunate events, I have needed computer repairs twice within the last eight months. I called various computer repair places and liked this guy's demeanor over the phone so I went in. He was awesome! He was helpful, patient, and informative. When I needed help a second time I didn't even call around, just went to him. Des Moines is lucky to have this place. read more

EC Computers is a a recent great find for myself! I am so glad and relieved to find a resource close to home who is so knowledgable, efficient, has such high customer service and high integrity. My interactions with them have left me with great trust in their services. I've tried to utilize other computer support in the Burien/Normandy Park/Des Moines area and have been highly disappointed in their lack of response, lack of knowledge and poor customer service. Patricio at EC Computers saved me from a disastrous attack that infected my laptop with some of the worst virus' around perpetrated by a tech scam. You'll find details about how hear scams in the July-August 2017 issue of AARP Bulletin. Basically while browsing a pop up appears and like most, I clicked the X to get rid of it. Unfortunately it was a scam and infections my PC by freezing it and displaying what appears to be a tech support message from Microsoft (it's not). Long story short, I had no idea where to turn but luckily was referred to local Des Moines computer shop, EC. Not only did he manage to clean my laptop if the virus but was able to restore it and salvage my data on an external hard drive before the bad guys could clean out my bank account. He explained things well, and got my pretty old laptop back in working order. He's a lifesaver and his charge was reasonable considering how awful this virus was. Strongly recommend them. Gave them a try over four years ago to get rid of a virus, been going there ever since using them for repairs and servicing of my family's laptops and PC's. Our computers are used for personal, business and school. Their costs are fair, and from my limited knowledge about computers, their work thorough, professional and effective. They call when promised, letting me know if the work is complete or more attention is needed. Their turnaround time is reasonable, quick and the final price within their estimates. Their store seems a bit casual less a retail store, more of a "repair shop" which they really are... They know what they are doing, say what they will do then do what they say. all the while are friendly and courteous. read more
