I absolutely love ebiko! I've been a regular since they've opened, and their fish quality is insanely good for the price they sell it at! I've always loved seeing the variety of fish they put in their omakase, and everything is extremely fresh! The cashier(s) (they've seemed to hire more since I last came) are very nice and polite as well! I cant recommend this place enough to all of my friends :) Just a warning they don't have any seats inside the store, but there is a bench outside if you would like to eat the sushi right away! This is my 4th time at Ebiko and it's really consistent! Especially for the price, I feel like it's really worth it. The fish is really fresh and the size of the nigiri are a good size. The inside of the store is pretty small, but it's a grab and go so there's no seating inside. Lots of Japanese snacks that you can purchase besides the sushi as well. Last thing I can say that I liked was that they had prepackaged ginger and wasabi, chopsticks, napkins, and soy sauce ready to grab after checking out. I cannot say enough good things about Ebiko that I wish I can give it more than 5 stars. The amazingly fresh fish and variety, their friendly service and owner, and ability to accommodate shellfish allergies with the omakase nigiri. The pieces of fish are so soft that it practically melts in your mouth in the omakase nigiri and what I love about these as well as the unagi nigiri is they do not have lots of rice filler but just the perfect amount so that the fish is the star. My wallet is glad it's not just around the corner from me but is close enough (about 25 min drive) so I was able to return twice in one week and actually 3 weeks in a row. Over 5 visits now, the omakase and ungai nigiri is a must for me followed by the negi chutoro don which was not always available. Each subsequent visit, we tried a different roll. Spicy tuna, spicy salmon, salmon avocado, tuna avocado, you really can't go wrong with any. Even the mini uni don which isn't my first choice is still solid. The omakase nigiri does normally come with a raw scallop but after 3 times of having to eat the ones from both packs because of someone's shellfish intolerance, I requested packs without the scallop and they were happy to accommodate. read more

Fun fact: Ebiko is owned by David, the who is Mei's son of Kyoto Sushi! Love this place! Not only is the omakase on point, all the rolls are affordable and it's simple grab and go. Sometimes they have the fancy Ebiko chopsticks which are great, got them today but they also have the other standard wooden ones. Fish is always fresh and other favorites include the makis. Blink and you'll miss it store but definitely make the effort to check it out if you are able. Plenty of options for take out sushi and all very good quality. I've only tried some of the smaller trays, I know that they have some catering/platter options. It can be a little priceybut it is sushi/sashimi so I'm expecting there to be some cost involved. Oakland has truly earned the reputation for being a foodie city. My son had wanted to try Ebiko based on the positive reviews. I was hesitant about eating pre boxed sushi. If you're ever in Japan, you'll notice they've developed the concept of the convenience store into a commercial art form. Over there, a 7-11 is a wonderfully appetizing emporium, not the place to get oversweetened slurpees. What was formerly Gaylord's Caffe Espresso Cofis now a clean and open corner spot headed in the direction of my motherland's convenience stores. There are a couple of large racks with neatly arranged Japanese edibles, primarily teas, soy sauce, and a wide variety of snacks, both savory and sweet (including at least two flavors of Pockys, of course). However, the big draw is the fresh sushi and other perishables in the refrigerated display case. Clearly that's what drew most of the customers in the store. In turn, the staff replenished the sushi trays with impressive frequency during the lunch rush. I was part of the whirl of takeout and grabbed two packaged trays for myself. The first was the $11.50 Salmon Aburi, a five-piece nigiri set topped with gently seared salmon (photo: https://bit.ly/3xhdWvE). The second was the seven-piece variety pack, the $16.99 Omakase Nigiri. That set was topped with different types of tuna, hamachi, and sea scallop (photo: https://bit.ly/3jODwVB). I read about this place in my local facebook group and when I went to Kaiser recently, I stopped by to treat myself to a to-go lunch. Very nice staff and good amount of sushi to chose from. Takeout pre-packed food, mostly sushi. Got the omakase set of the day - 7 assorted nigiri. Fish is pretty good. Fresh. Good texture. Ikura had really good pop. Hotate was sweet. Chu toro was actually that (other places, not naming names, please take note). Salmon belly was so good, super fatty. Rice was a little hard from being refrigerated and I would prefer a little less vinegar. Another thing I like is that the pieces are reasonably sized so no need to cram them into your mouth. Ah I wish I still worked steps from this awesome tasty Japanese takeout spot. It definitely would have been in rotation with Geta, RnR, and Shimizu for my meals. The small interior of the store was packed with imported Japanese products, especially snacks. The good stuff is in the open refrigerator on the left side, where there is freshly prepared maki, nigiri, sashimi for takeout and decent prices. To attest for the freshness, someone was stocking the fridge as my eyes devoured the unagi nigiri, salmon and hamachi makis. After much internal debate, I grabbed the omakase ($16.99) for a sample of nigiri (the addition of toro ultimately convinced me). Checkout was easy and the guy behind the counter was really nice and gave me a quick rundown of the store. I ate the omakase in my car since I was running some errands and couldn't wait! Overall, the fish was fresh and the rice was well-seasoned. It wasn't the best but it was good for the price. I instantly regretted not getting more. If you're looking for sushi value for your money, then Ebiko is where it is at. I live in the South Bay, but have already ordered from Ebiko twice in the past month. My go-to is the Kaisen Party Platter, which I usually split with 3 other people. It comes with seaweed paper so that you can make your own hand rolls to enjoy. All cuts of fish have always tasted really fresh. I also love how there's a bit of amaebi, i I, and real crab meat in there. I usually deep fry the heads of the amaebi after eating the main body of the sweet shrimp. The one downside is that the rice is not (or very lightly) seasoned. I think the whole meal would be elevated with more seasoning. I've also tried their unagi rolls, unagi nigiri, and spicy tuna rolls; all of which were tasty, but nothing beats the party platter. read more

High quality fish at an unparalleled price. For a sushi lover, the Omakase Nigiri is a must - it includes the most popular cuts in addition to more premium items like scallops and fatty tuna. Melt in your mouth quality and texture. Another must is the Salmon Aburi, which has a sweet and smoky flavor from the sear and crunch from the tobiko. The Salmon Avocado Roll comes with a healthy portion of buttery salmon without any 'fishy' aftertaste. The Unagi Nigiri was good, though I do wish it came warmer (one of the downsides of the to-go model). I've been to several traditional omakase spots across the US, and sure, it's a fun and intimate experience being served at the counter by a master sushi chef. But I can't help but think that for the same price, you can get 10+ orders of Ebiko's Omakase set lol. And with Ebiko, there's no risk of getting a polarizing cut like geoduck, squid, or mackerel. The best Japanese convenience store in the area. They have an amazing sushi selection with delicious and fresh fish -- in particular they have a omakasae set for about $19 that is such a great value. They also have many rolls, toro bowl, inari and salads in their sushi area. They also have all the offerings of a Japanese convenience store like ramune drinks, chips and snacks. After trying a few different rolls on different visits, I have to say their sushi rice tastes under seasoned/ more on the bland side. Today I also tried their seaweed salad ($3.50) that comes in a 5.5 oz size cup. It was lacking flavor as well, not seasoned and flavorful like I'm used to eating from other sushi restaurants. This place is awesome. It's "fast casual" because everything is grab and go, but WAY better quality than typical "grocery store sushi" from places like Nijiya. This is more like if RnR was doing fast casual, if that makes sense. We had a few things: Omakase Nigiri- Definitely fresh fish! Salmon Aburi- A nice balance and added to the variety Spicy Tuna Roll- Generous portion Hamachi Roll- Typical like other places Kaisen Don- Fresh crab and they definitely gave you your money's worth in fish (but by no means "generous" portion of fish) I do recognize this appears like a lot of food (for 2 people) but we felt it was the perfect amount lol. The owner is definitely the person that serves you because he said his wife made the mochi cakes (which they kindly included when they packed up our takeout).
