We got our bikes serviced recently and I was impressed by the way they called to discuss the cost of potential repairs before making them. They also discussed the cost of repairs relative to the value of the bike. These and other actions have earned our loyalty.

One of the owners just seems angry all the time, but IDC honestly I'm not there to date him/ just want my bike fixed and they do a great job. I support them because there are hardly any independently owned small shops. I'd say if you go there with the understanding that the service takes awhile and you may or may not get grumbled at..but prices are fair and really it's a great shop overall.

I assumed it was chain-related, so they offered a free estimate and roughly $21 for the issue. Since it was a holiday week and I had access to a transport vehicle, I spontaneously headed out to the shop. I worked with Ben, who by the way was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. He put the bike up and immediately found the issue. Typical procedure would be to order the parts ( if they don't have it in shop) and they keep the bike until it arrives and complete the install. However in this case Ben was able to offer a workaround so I can leave with the bike that day itself. I couldn't say no. I would say the whole process took roughly 30 to 40, minutes which included the explanation and the installation. There is a small waiting area, and I think they offer free water and coffee. But of course I had to stand there and watch him because I'm always curious! He definitely went above and beyond checked everything else to make sure it looked good. It was only $16 for the installation fee. I would highly recommend this shop for any repairs. Trek offers their own bikes available for purchase. They are a little pricey, but definitely reliable bikes for serious cyclist enthusiasts...one day, but not quite there yet. Parking was a bit tough, considering the time of day. But there is a parking garage available if parallel parking isn't available. They do have an automatic door, and if they see you with the bike can automatically open the single door for easy entrance.

After some more back and forth, they switched out the bike for a larger one. Second, the saddle bags on my bike were not cleaned out before my rental - there were empty air cans, a chapstick and trash in the saddle bag. Last, and most offensive - while on my ride, I had an issue where the bike chain cover kept coming loose and the pedal would get caught on it mid rotation causing me to stop suddenly. I completed the ride and when I returned the bike, I mentioned it to the owner Mr. Robert Esti. He indicated that I may have done something to the part as it did not start out like that. I explained that nothing happened and it seemed to be spontaneous. He was rude, dismissive and did not address my concerns. For such a large price tag for rentals, this was not a good value for the experience - combined with the rude demeanor of Mr Esti- I recommend not using this location or the new location in Herndon.

I have been out of the triathlon world for about a decade but I have slowly been making my way back into the scene. Looking at my old equipment I decided that it was time to upgrade my triathlon shoes. I went to Transition Tri looking for the new Shimano TR-901 - and they had them (which was impressive because everyone else was sold out). Steve easily took 90 mins helping me try on a few different tri shoes, a few helmets and a few other things. Steve also gave me the low down on what has been happening in the tri world over the last 10 year - over those 90 mins - he reminded me why I fell in love with triathlons ten years ago. To anyone looking to upgrade / update their triathlon equipment - there is no better place in the DMV. Steve is fantastic, his inventory is diverse (across sizes, brands and price points).
