A true local restaurant with tasty food and friendly people. The environment was a bit daunting with the intimidating hunting trophies. The chocolate pie made it bearable. Yummy!

Amazing food, just wish they stayed open later on the weekends. I would suggest a skillet if you have a big appetite. Always have some sort of small buffet going

Instead of all the silly fast food chains, this grille is a delight. A good place for burger and french fry people. Would go again next time I'm in town.

Best place in Charlotte. A little old and needs a good cleaning but not too bad. Food was good.

Great casual breakfast place. The specials are a great value. Will definitely stop back by when passing through early in the morning.

Good diner to eat at. Has been there since I was a kid and for good reason. Soup and salad is always a winner.

Very Disappointed - Will Not Return…read more I recently visited the Big Boy in Charlotte, MI and had a very unpleasant experience. The restaurant was extremely messy, and the salad bar was dirty and did not look safe to eat from. There appeared to be a lot of cross-contamination between the food items, which is a serious health concern. I also ordered the broccoli soup, but it was spoiled and completely inedible. When I mentioned this to the cashier, she didn't apologize or even offer to take it off the bill, which I found very unprofessional. On top of that, I ordered four adult meals but wanted an item from the kids' menu (Bosco sticks). A different waitress came back to tell me I couldn't order a kids' meal because I didn't have a child with me. Then she said the manager would "allow" me to have the $6.99 kids' meal for $8.99 just because I didn't have kids with me. That made absolutely no sense and felt like I was being taken advantage of. Overall, the restaurant was not clean, the food quality was poor, and the customer service was lacking. If the dining area looks this bad, I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. I will not be returning.

The collie two cars back had just noticed them and struck up a conversation. "Hey!" The collie yelled. "I'm at McDonald's too!" The shepherd didn't reply, just stared, dumbstruck at their fun new friend. The collie tried again: "Hey! Hey! I'm in a car, too! Does it get any better than this?!" Six cars back, two huskies entered the chat transforming fast food gridlock into utter pandemonium. The huskies raced from one Side of the car to the other, colliding as they jumped from front to back, crushing their owner and howling out the windows as the car rocked violently "Hey! Hey! We're here too! Look! Back here! Look! Look! Can you hear us!? We're here too! Isn't this great‽" And the barking and the howling and the little shepherd still speechless and shook had every human in this breakfast traffic jam smiling, laughing hanging out our windows craning to better see these dogs having the best doggone time. And a dozen people alone in their metal cocoons, joined a jubilant symphony of love and freedom, conducted by four furry joy machines absolutely stoked to be out on a McMuffin run. And for five minutes we paused our poison pen debates, forgot we'd been told to hate the aliens within our gates and we all just smiled and laughed and joined the happy dog party. Five stars.

That being said it has a very positive feel to the place. I ordered the Triple D Burger ($15). A 1/3 lb Cheeseburger with pickles, onions and a slice of tomato, deep fried in Joe's Famous Batter Mix. This was made famous on the TV show "Diner's, Drive-ins, and Dives." The burger was very unique. The batter is excellent and it was cooked perfectly. I enjoyed the burger and I recommend it for the experience. It is a very good Burger, it's just not in my top 10. Top 15? Maybe. I think my biggest issue was the meat itself, it was a little bland in taste and texture. The frying also gave the cheese a slightly odd mouth feel. I think next time I'd try just the regular batter burger, which is just the patty fried, not the whole thing. I enjoyed the fries that came with it, they were very tasty. I also ordered the 4 piece Chicken Dinner ($17). This has Tender chicken battered in Joe's batter mix fried to perfection. I got this to go and reheated in the oven and air fried to re crisp the next day. It came out perfectly. It was excellent. Super tasty and tender and the batter is excellent. I can only imagine it's even better fresh. I very much recommend the chicken. The service was super friendly and everything was very efficient. The food came out quickly and the prices were very fair. Overall a 5 star review. The Burger is worth a unique experience and the chicken is excellent. Would I return? Absolutely.

I think he went a little bit overboard however (as usual) because he ordered the gizzard sampler platter which came with plain, garlic & herb, and cajun chicken gizzards because he wanted to try them all. He admitted he should have just tried a small order. He did like the gizzards and they give a good amount of dipping sauces, but he said it was just way too much so we ended up throwing about half the order away. I ordered the deep fried olives to start and the smothered chicken for my meal. I love olives and the deep fried ones were tasty but a bit heavy and oily and if I'm being honest, i would have preferred just the olives themselves as an app. I did finish them later but it's definitely another item you have to eat in moderation. I personally though the potatoes with my meal were terrible. I like to eat potatoes without gravy but it wasn't possible with these. My husband drowned them in gravy and ate them for me. The chicken was fine though and the mushrooms were tasty. We went inside to order but ended up taking our meal to go. There was music and games and the employees and owner were very friendly but this is definitely a bar vibe spot where the locals come to drink and everyone knows each other. They had really good wifi and most importantly, my husband got to experience gizzards for the first time so I am glad we stopped in.
