Very Disappointed - Will Not Return I recently visited the Big Boy in Charlotte, MI and had a very unpleasant experience. The restaurant was extremely messy, and the salad bar was dirty and did not look safe to eat from. There appeared to be a lot of cross-contamination between the food items, which is a serious health concern. I also ordered the broccoli soup, but it was spoiled and completely inedible. When I mentioned this to the cashier, she didn't apologize or even offer to take it off the bill, which I found very unprofessional. On top of that, I ordered four adult meals but wanted an item from the kids' menu (Bosco sticks). A different waitress came back to tell me I couldn't order a kids' meal because I didn't have a child with me. Then she said the manager would "allow" me to have the $6.99 kids' meal for $8.99 just because I didn't have kids with me. That made absolutely no sense and felt like I was being taken advantage of. Overall, the restaurant was not clean, the food quality was poor, and the customer service was lacking. If the dining area looks this bad, I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. This was terrible, our waiter had time to chat with other booths but not time to refill my water. Our forks were not washed properly and it took 35 minutes to get a sandwich and too burgers, Absolutely terrible never coming back. read more

We were in Charlotte today and ate at the Big Boy. Our server Lydia was just perfect and professional. My wife wanted the Slim Jim, which is why we went. She loved it. I had the Pike-Perch dinner and it was very good. We both order hash browns rather than fries and they were fantastic. The place was very clean and parking was very convenient. Everyone there was super friendly. We wouldn't hesitate to return. read more

Being hungry and never having tried Big Boy before, we decided to stop here on our road trip home. I have to admit, the Big Boy statue at the entrance was adorable and caught my eye...it's pretty hard to miss to be honest. Not sure this chain exists in IL. Least I've never seen or heard of them before. Anyway, this is a full service restaurant offering breakfast, lunch & dinner AND a soup, salad and fruit buffet. Comforting, hearty menu items including ice cream and pie. Sort of reminds me of an IHOP or Denny's but way cuter, cooler, cleaner and definitely retro. Plus they have ice cream and pie. I wanted to try what their known for; classic double decker, but I was craving chicken tenders too. Then I thought, might as well taste some pie since I'm gorging. Classic big boy comes with 2 "seasoned" beef patties, lettuce, cheese and their "special sauce" on a sesame seed bun. My bb was plain, cheese only. Sandwich itself is hefty..sizeable patties. Wayy more than I could handle. Burger was decent quality and flat top cooked..lil greasy but not much flavor. Nothing I'd crave again. My bf said the special sauce on his Classic was tangy and sweet. This sauce can make or break the burger so maybe try it on the side if this is your first time. He didn't mind it, but wasn't a big fan. The chicken tenders were great though. Meaty, perfectly floured and fried. I could've ditched the burger and been happy with this. (well, I pretty much did ditch the burger after 3 bites). Fries were fresh and ok. My banana cream pie slice tasted different..something was weird or off and filling was sweeter than what I'm used to. Overall, no complaints on service and food was hot and fresh. Our bellies were full. Glad we gave Big Boy a try. If your driving through Michigan, you're bound to see a cute big boy and he's A-Ok. Not a bad option for road food. read more

We had a nice supper here this evening, husband had the fried fish dinner and wife had shrimp dinner. Our food was good, but hubby said that the batter on the cod was way too thick and wife agrees. It was more batter than fish, and that batter could be cut in half really. The side of mixed vegetables were generous and delicious; the tartar sauce for the fish is amazing. Service was friendly and efficient and it's likely we would return, but just wanted to make mention of that extremely thick fish batter. read more

We stopped by this place after our farm visit in Charlottes. This old fashion restaurant has many mouthwatering menus. It took us pretty long time to make decisions. After looking around, the place was clean. The waitresses were friendly and knew most customers' names. It looked like we were the only family that they didn't know, yet they were still super polite. This place gives racist vibes, specifically the waitresses. When I come in with my white grandparents they are always greeted, smiled at and talked to very nicely. When I go in by myself it is extremely different. I'm mixed and they make it known I'm different. Last time I went to get an order for pick up nobody greeted me. I smiled at them, they didn't smile back. It took multiple people walking by before I was acknowledged. Even the customers were staring. The waitresses have consistently given me bad attitudes while serving me. Even pointing at me to make me go to the register instead of TALKING to me. Extremely rude behavior from these ladies. I'd be careful to any person of color trying to eat at this establishment. read more

I come here often and really enjoy this restaurant. The staff is friendly, and the food is great. My only complaint would be that the weekend afternoon staff is not as good with their service as the morning crew. During my last visit, we were not checked on very often, and our waitress was running around the restaurant doing virtually everything. She worked very hard but seemed to have no one giving her a hand. I definitely prefer eating here before 2pm on the weekends. The bottom line is that this is a great place to grab a bite to eat, and I would say that it is one of the best places to eat in the Charlotte area. New visitors should feel confident that they will have a good experience here. read more

Waitress wouldn't make eye contact with either my daughter or I, silverware was dirty and the napkin that wrapped the silverware had food on it . Asked for new napkins and silverware but never got it, so we took it off a different table. Oh and we ordered a slice of their strawberry pie and reminded her 2x just to bring it after our brunch,she never did and also didn't bill us for it. When we went to pay the lady asked how our food was and we told her how we ordered a slice of pie each but didn't get it or billed and she said " want me to ring it up for you now" umm no it would of been nice to have sitting down eating brunch with my daughter . High recommendation for this BIG BOY. Our server was Elizabeth, and she was exceptional. Prompt service, and very kind. I came here with my family of 4. We had pretzel bites and boneless wings for apps, and I ordered the Philly cheesesteak. Two orders of fish and chips and a Slim Jim were ordered by the rest. My cheesesteak was juicy and delicious. The fish was crispy golden fried flaked and moist. I haven't been to a Big Boy in forever, and I'm happy I made the stop today! read more

We were on our way to Macinaw for the weekend and decided to stop for breakfast buffet. It was closed due to the buffet attendant calling in?!?! What!! So pretty bummed. Got our food and the server forgot our syrup she decided to bring it with the remaining food that she was still waiting for. We had burnt pancakes. Cold French toast. Undercooked eggs. We know this part was not her fault but while she was waiting for the other half of the food she could of brought the syrup for the rest of us and my child who was waiting for syrup to eat her pancakes. When she brought back replacement French toast It was raw. So undercooked and she just dropped it off and left. My father had to take them up and we had to tell them nevermind so we could finish up and leave. NEVER once did a manager come to the table or apologize for anything. read more

This is and old restaurant and looks it. The food was good. Prepared as requested and tasty. UNTIL I looked under the booth to discover how filthy it was. A pile of crumbs swept onto the wall and if you looked you could see the booth and walls had not been cleaned in years. The health inspector should do an inspection. Big Boy should be ashamed. We like Big Boy Restaurants but will not be back to this one. Too bad because the waitresses and cooks were great. read more

This is the worst big boy I have ever ate at. The food was cold and nasty. I couldn't even finish my food. Went to go pay , the manager asked how my meal was, i told him it was terrible and the cooks have no pride. He then offered a free meal, i told him I didn't want a free meal, i wanted a meal I could eat. I paid and left and never will be back. The old Big Boy menu is back! My Swiss Miss was as delicious as I remembered. My husband's Potato Pancakes were perfect. My fries were crisp and golden. The hostess got us to our table efficiently. This is the best Big Boy Restaurant that I have been to in years. The classic Big Boy burger and the Slim Jim are excellent. I ordered Fish and Chips and Spaghetti and meatballs for a carry out on another day and both were very good. The portions are generous. The featured strawberry dishes had sweet , juicy strawberries that were almost as big as the palm of my hand. And the strawberry milkshake was richer and sweeter and thicker than any that I have had anywhere. The famous strawberry pie and the French silk chocolate pie were freshly made.We were in Charlotte for almost a week but I was happy going back to the same Big Boy restaurant. The wait staff was friendly and hard working. The place sparkled including the restrooms. It sounds like all I did in Charlotte was eat but I did complete several paintings and projects! read more

My family met at the Charlotte Michigan location of Big Boy as it is located half way between our homes to celebrate my only child, my son, Adam's 32nd heavenly birthday. He was born on 3/6/85 and died on 8/22/15. I ordered the soup & salad bar for 2 persons; and only received 2 bowls of soup & 2 bowls of salad because there weren't any bowls for soup nor was there any lettuce available. After asking 4 times for some one to make some bowls available and to put some lettuce out - an HOUR later they finally did. I will never go to any big boy restaurant again. This was awful. $20 for 2 bowls of soup & 2 bowls of salad. Unacceptable. read more

Super disappointed- bad service, bad food. My husband and I just left- there were other customers, but they weren't busy. Maybe a total of 8 tables were occupied. I ordered the chicken penne alfredo with garlic bread. The "alfredo" sauce was just a milky white, bland gelatinous goo over some undercooked penne noodles. I had to ask for the garlic bread, (which I was looking forward to after receiving my disappointing main dish) and when it finally came it was literally a buttered, toasted sesame seed hoagie bun. My husband ordered the super big boy- the middle bun was completely saturated with grease and inedible. Then, to top it all off, out waitress disappeared with out bringing our bill. Roast beef stew was amazing! Options of different types of bread with dinner is a family favorite bonus! Broccoli cheese soup is a wonderful fall favorite, or warm up with their French onion soup! Staff is typically right on top of refills and making sure order is satisfactory, did find a hair in our meal however manager came right over and corrected the situation.... customer satisfaction appears to be a priority. read more

It's a nice chain restaurant in the outskirts of downtown Charlotte, closer to the highway. They are open fairly late on weekends and very early, too. Prices aren't the cheapest, and the service is ok. The food is decent. Nice place to try if you don't have much time to look through downtown Charlotte where there are better restaurants. read more
