It helped that one of my friends, Dan, manages the programs here and would point out all the cool trees, plants, and general history as we walked along. He truly made my first time at Woldumar so memorable and his passion for this nature center truly shines through in everything he does - even when he's off the clock just showing boring ol' me around! I've heard so much of all the work Dan has put into this place over the years and he truly makes Woldumar shine bright for all those who come and visit, whether for an afternoon or for a summer-long program! I imagine this place overrun with kids and adults alike when the weather is great and can only imagine how much fun it would be to experience this place in the summertime. Diane's Inn fit right in with the eclectic, historic, artsy downtown Lansing vibe. Our reservation process was easy and personal. Diane was responsive and gathered information about the nature of our visit and our preferences. She was clearly invested in making our experience a positive one. We found her to be pleasant and personable throughout our stay. Diana is so knowledgeable about downtown Lansing and very active in the community that committed to preserving its history and charm. We met our friends for a two-day, one-night social gathering. It was the perfect early September weather for biking the Lansing River Trail and other connector trails. The B&B is very accessible to the trails. Though we didn't have much time to explore the downtown area, it is also walking distance from the capitol, Old Town and REO Town. Fabulous location. The neighborhood is historic and interesting. Seems like a great place for walking. Our rooms were both aesthetically interesting and comfortable. The beds were firm and the bedding was soft. Our bathrooms were spic and span clean with all the expected amenities. The bathroom in the main house, pink room contained a very small shower that would not be comfortable for tall visitors. Our bathroom was outside our room, but private. This arrangement might not be for everyone. The many decorations and pillows were charming yet might also be the source of dust so if you are sensitive, these rooms might not be your most comfortable choice. The outdoor spaces are absolutely lovely. The koi pond is clearly the highlight. Diane designed it and takes great pride in its maintenance. There are garden chairs available to relax and unwind. Beautiful spaces for good weather days. One drawback was the available indoor spaces for small groups to gather and socialize. Outside our bedrooms, it didn't feel convenient to lounge in other common area spaces in the home. Diane is a collector and had many wonderful stories to share about her pictures, quilts, linens, paintings, China and many, many other tchotchkies in her home. For collectors, bargain-hunters, repurposing buffs, and antique enthusiasts, Diane's home would be a fascinating adventure. For those travelers who prefer a more conventional, spartan, spacious environment, it will likely feel cramped and cluttered. The bedrooms are located on the second floor. Stair casing is narrow, lighting isn't the best and hand rails are absent on parts. For guests with mobility issues, these accommodations may not be suitable. We were served a delicious, hearty breakfast of a veggie sausage bake, blueberry muffin, toast, juice and fresh fruit. Coffee was wonderful. The dining room table was a work of art with the best china and napkins. We left for a day of biking quite full. For our open-minded, adventuresome spirits, the Cozy Koi was a fun experience. We would return and would like to try one of the rooms in the yellow house with a balcony for relaxing. This B&B seems quite fitting with the vibe of downtown Lansing.

Breakfast was absolutely delicious and you're a 10 minute walk from the Capitol area (REO town?) and Old Town, both of which have fun things to do. You're also 3 blocks from the River Trail, which spans from downtown Lansing to the MSU campus. It's beautiful and would be a great place to bike ride or canoe. There are 2 houses; we stayed in the yellow one. You park in her grass lot in back, but since we were the first guests to arrive that day, we got the carport. You have access to the whole house, basically. Kitchen, living room, and a 2-person balcony, along with your individual room that has a bathroom and kitchenette, but no TV. I don't care about that at all, but I can see how others would. There is a TV available in the communal living room. We stayed in the Garden Room, which is very economical, but has a rather old school bathroom and vibe. We were perfectly happy as it was clean and welcoming with windows that open to allow great ventilation. Next time, I think we'd stay in the room with the balcony and updated bathroom, it was very nice looking. You'd have to share the balcony if someone was staying in the room next door, but it's perfect for friends or family staying together. I think it would be really fun to rent out the whole house. The best feature of our room was the kitchenette which is fully stocked with pots, pans, plates, cups, a kettle, etc. If I had to stay in Lansing for work for a few days, I'd definitely grocery shop and cook. There is a lovely separate dining area with a big window. Since you have access to the living room, you could conceivably have people over, even. Breakfast was at 8:30 with a slightly flexible time depending on what time you request the day before. Diane made this delicious baked egg dish with cheese and hash browns that was fluffy and savory and perfect. She served it with fresh fruit, homemade warm chocolate banana bread, ham and turkey bacon since we asked for it. So considerate. Great coffee, juice, and conversation around a family style table with your housemates. Different. Cool. Diane is great at facilitating conversation. I highly recommend staying here and will definitely be back soon!
