CreekRidge Campground - Taking Covid 19 seriously

This is the only all male campground in Michigan and the only campground within 150 mile radius that has it's own dance club and not just a dance area. The camp features a wonderful pool and sundeck area. The bathrooms were fully renovated prior to opening of the camp. The Lodge building provides a place for indoor gatherings and food functions when we aren't under restrictions for Covid-19. There are a wide variety of theme weekends throughout the season. Once camper indicated a problem with tenting which was a surprise as the camp offers a number of tenting site including both electric/water and primitive. There is one section of primitive camping that is very rustic in the middle of a tree lined area. Hopefully this individual will return and request a tenting site in a different area on their next visit. Covid-19 has put a damper on some of the events as the campground has limited attendance and restricted activities to ensure the safety of their guests. Hopefully next year we can return to the full array of activities including the frequent potlucks for which the camp was so well known.

It's local and I always used it to iron out any kinks that may arise throughout the season before I go camping elsewhere farther away. They haven't had a lot to offer in terms of recreation for a long time, but I still enjoyed the simple atmosphere and ability to camp 'rustic' if that was my goal for the weekend. For many years the price was excellent, but the past couple of years the price has gone up ridiculously. I will not spend $50+ per night for a campsite at a campground that has so little to offer. Especially when you can go to bigger campgrounds that have more to do for less. It MIGHT be that I live so close by that there's not even anything interesting to see AROUND the campground, as where other cities may have some sites I'd be interested in seeing or places to go. But, for a campground like Cottonwood, with nothing to offer IN the campground, I don't see why anyone would pay that much when there's absolutely NOTHING interesting for people to see within 50 miles of the place. For being the state capital, Lansing is basically nothing but ghetto anymore. Even Detroit has better things to do!

The cabin was clean and functions well as a sleeping space but not really meant to cook in. This cabin does not come with a mini fridge as listed on the website, but does have an electric heater and small table in addition to a bunk bed and a full sized futon (bring your own bedding). There is also wall electricity. The site itself was plenty spacious and featured a permanent and very nice fire pit and cooking grill. This site was pretty close to the restrooms/showers, which were some of the most clean I've seen at a state park. The smaller lake is within walking distance and Wamplers was a short drive. The smaller lake has a fantastic fishing dock complete with pole holders and picnic tables. It also had plenty of fish! I'm told taking a boat on the lake would be a great experience for fishing. The campground itself was green with plenty of grassy areas and not dusty at all. They also have a camp host that serves complimentary coffee and hot chocolate on weekends, which was a very kind gesture. There is firewood for purchase at the entrance. All in all, would definitely come back. Not crowded, not loud and very clean!

Lots of, possibly the majority of, people here are on seasonal sites, and some make these these quite homey, with screened porches, hedges, light displays and statuary. Campers are packed pretty tightly together, but if you came here you probably weren't looking for solitude. Though there were a lot of people here, it was quiet overall. The owners were very pleasant and helpful. Other campers were pretty friendly too. The firewood we got was dry and easy to burn. We appreciated the cleanliness. The grounds were well maintained, and bathrooms and showers were kept very clean. Plenty of hot water in the showers, though water pressure gets weak if more than one person is showering at the same time. If you don't feel like walking all the way to the modern bathhouse, there are outhouses scattered through the campground, though I'd recommend just walking to the bathhouse. Rockey's is situated on a chain of small lakes, and there are some decent fish to be found in these. There's a concrete boat launch, as well as fishing boats and canoes for rent. When I was unloading my kayak by the boat launch, one of the owners said it was no problem for me to leave it on the lawn by the launch, and that I could safely leave all my gear by it with no worries. He as right. We were tent camping, which I think few people do there, and this did present some inconveniences. Some of the sites have few trees...like ours, and a little protection from the sun would have been nice. A lack of trees also left us with no place to string up our clothesline. There are streetlights along the campground lanes, which are handy for walking to the bathhouse after dark, but make your tent very bright at night. Rockey's doesn't cater to tenters, but some do come there, and for them it will be less than ideal. But for others it should be more than satisfactory,
