In an area that features many great playgrounds and parks to take your family to, Innovation Hills has always stood out. There is a lack of options for younger children though (no infant swings?). The three stars? One of the new features of this park is the addition of Park Mobile being introduced for the main parking lot. Signs everywhere reminding you that you better have paid your $1.50 an hour! There is of course a free dirt lot across the busy road for your convenience. Or a parking 'annual pass' you can purchase from the Rochester Hills website. Our society struggles with the concept of 'the third place'. Parks and playgrounds are a haven for families and a community builder outside of work and home. What in the world is the motivation behind suddenly charging for parking? 1 - The City of Rochester Hills wants to prioritize park access for its citizens? Charging for parking doesn't keep out non-residents and in fact just causes Rochester Hills citizens to pay more for something they are already paying for. 2 - The park is often extremely crowded so charging for parking may reduce visitor count? If this was the motivation I am confident this strategy is not working. 3 - We want to encourage more families to park in the dirt lot across the street and attempt to cross a highway? I have more faith in humanity than that. Oh, I think I got it! To quote Tim Robinson's sketch 'The Driving Crooner' - "I gotta figure out how to make money on this thing..it's simply TOO GOOD!"

We go here a few times each summer to enjoy the weather, tranquility and scenic sights.. it's a very family-oriented gathering spot, perfect for picnics, biking, hiking, jogging, relaxing, and photo opps. I really enjoy it - it's off the beaten path, nestled in a wooded area, very clean and tranquil... it's quiet and beautiful- we have taken many gorgeous photos here. A lot of people were walking around with their kids or come go fishing. So it was a nice family area. I realize I am more of a resort pool with a lazy river girly, so I am not in love with the many swarms of gnats but that is me. If you are outdoorsy, this is a nice place to visit. As soon as you drive in, this magnificent (perspective of a kid) playground appears to the left. It's even called the Kids Kingdom. My kids had a blast. Even my 20 month old had a wonderful time. We brought some PIZZA, ate on one of the nice picnic tables within Kids Kingdom. However, I must admit I had a specific intent for checking out this park; disc golf!! There is an 18 hole disc golf course. There are plenty of trees, dog legs (left and right turns... not actual legs of dogs), and water hazards to make it interesting. There is a nice variety of long and short throws. The tee pads were extremely easy to find; however, the baskets from the tee pads weren't as easy to find. If I had the map, that I attached to this review, from the beginning it would have been a different story. I skipped one basket because I assumed the drive was a little longer. I ended up throwing it 3/4 of the way to the next basket. No worries... I'll know better next time. I didn't know what PAR was for the baskets, so I assumed everything was PRO PAR and ended with 1 over for the 18 holes. I know there is a lot of room for improvement. I will definitely take my family to this park again!! My wife also wanted me to mention on this review that the bathrooms were nice and right next to the playground. My 6 year old didn't realize the bathrooms were so close and found a tree out in the distance. You'd think he was born in a barn or something....

My little one is 5 and it is rated for ages 5-12. This structure has several slides, swings, rock walls, monkey bars, and other "challenges". My son had a great time, but was definitely timid at times. This is a great structure for him to grow and learn. There is also a playground specifically for those in wheelchairs, etc. I love to see the inclusive design to allow all children to enjoy the playground. Nearby, is a pavilion with indoor bathroom facilities. They are very clean and well-kept.

There is no lifeguard on duty but there is always some one from the department patrolling for other violations. Talking about violations. NO alcohol/bottles, No animals. Plenty of parking. The sand, grass area, water is clean and well maintained. It does get dirty during peak hours but they do come clean few times a day. This pond is isolated from other water bodies around it. Keeps it little cleaner. Makes it good for scuba diving and there is some fishing as well. The have amazing trail system in the park for cycling and hiking. There is a trail around this pond. If you hike to the back of the pond, there is some water access (private beach). Or a spot to take your girl friend. There are two sand volleyball courts with net. One shed which can be reserved. This park is ideal because it's away from the crowded beaches around the area. Only thing, there could have been more trees in the lawn area for shade and tie your hammock.
