I came to Michigan unexpectedly due to a family emergency. I arrived late at the hotel, past…read more9:30pm, and had hoped to just get to my room and go to sleep. The first room I was given had hairs everywhere on the sheets, dirt smudges on the covers, and disgusting skin flakes everywhere. The second room I was moved to had hairs everywhere and little spiders in the sheets (see attached picture for one of the spiders I saw). I went down to the front desk and asked if house cleaning could change the sheets, or if I could be moved to another clean room. The front desk lady told me they had no house cleaning on staff at that time, and that she did not want to go up to the rooms and make sure the next one I got was clean. She then recommended I go somewhere else to spend the night. Management has refused to provide a refund, even though I did not spend the night and was essentially told to go somewhere else by their own staff. I will be disputing the charge but wanted to warn people of the service they may receive while they are here. I had an absolutely awful experience, am still trying to get my money back, and will never visit this location again.

I was told it's fine to cancel. Don't worry about it. Cancel my reservation at 12 o'clock. Now on January 29 I receive a charge on my credit card for my room stay and late cancellation. Called the hotel and the representative I spoke to was very nice. She said that she was given orders to tell everyone that's company policy and no cancellations are allowed before 24 hours.

The hotel was clearly a very nice place at one time, but it's upkeep has been neglected (stained…read morecarpets in common areas, faded carpet in my room, worn out blanket on bed). That said, I did like that the bed and the office space were in separate room. The bathroom and wash sink were also in different rooms, and while that wouldn't normally be a problem, only one bar of soap was provided, so it had to be carried back and forth from the room with the wash sink to the room with the shower. Also, while Conditioner and Lotion were provided, Shampoo was not. All of the above would normally be forgiven except that I received news during the 2nd afternoon of my planned 3-night stay that a sister - 12 hours away in another city - had chosen to be taken off of life support, so - even though it was a full 30 hours before the start of my 3rd day, when I asked if I could get a partial refund on the final day if I left that night, I was told "No. The hotel has a strict policy about this."

Finally, it is a great value for the money. Now to the downsides. The hotel could use an upgrade and there are parts of it that show age. The sink in my room wasn't clean when we arrived. It was like someone cut their hair there and a sloppy cleaning job was done. The beds need replaced as they're worn out. It is not fun having a bathroom sink with a huge bright light that is turned on 8 feet away in the area where the beds are. Makes things difficult. The HVAC compressor. What can I say about that? It reminds you all night that it works, so bring earplugs along with shades for your eyes. I got more sleep outside of the hotel than in the room. Even with these detractors, the positives do make it beneficial, but the worse is yet to come. We were charged with a $75 holding fee because of past damage done to rooms. I recommend taking pictures of the room when you enter and leave. I see people have had issues with getting this money back. Had we read these reviews before we stayed, I think we would have gone elsewhere. The breakfast is worth it which is why it gets 3 stars as I am still on the verge of giving 2 as well as price. The staff we encountered were friendly. In the future, if I stay in the area I will still look elsewhere to see if I can find a better place mainly because of the $75.

Check out other review sites for this hotel. It deserves better than the multiple single star Yelp!…read morereviews--at least now. It's true it is an old building with worn decor and furnishings, but during my visit it was clean and a terrific value-especially through Booking.com. Firstly, this was built as a Holiday Inn Holidome, which HI used 40 years ago to bridge the gap between serving business travelers and families. So there are conference rooms and an indoor pool--which was in service during my visit--and a whirlpool which--was not in service. There were a couple of arcade style video games and a small, workable workout room. There's also a full service seafood restaurant and bar attached to the property However, if you do want to get outside of the hotel, there are a multitude of fast food and sit down restaurants nearby along Saginaw Avenue. There is also plenty of shopping, including a Walmart within a mile. Furnishings in my room were worn--a chair armrest was severely used and a dresser drawer wouldn't close. But the room was clean and quiet. Indeed there seem to be fewer than three dozen cars in the parking lot, which likely accounted for a good part of the quiet.
