Work trip turned pleasantly surprising at the courtyard! Right in the middle of downtown, fresh build, everything clean and updated. The one lowlight was the pillows but I feel like every hotel has crappy pillows so no stars reduced for that one! Book here without questions!

Super nice place! Clean, comfortable rooms, the bed was AWESOME! Staff was very friendly. Within walking distance from a lot of shops/restaurants/bars. Highly recommended! Go GREEN

I booked a room at this Marriott for one night recently and Nate and I had a great experience. The staff checking us in and out were polite. The parking lot behind the hotel is spacious and was $16 per day with in and out privileges. The hotel is located within walking distance from several bars and restaurants, including a busy bagel shop across the street and the tasty Sidecar Slider Bar that we enjoyed. The Capital City Market next door is a great place to grab some local snacks and beverages to enjoy in your room. Yes, there is a homeless shelter across the street, but we didn't encounter any issues while there. I felt very safe at this hotel and it was super clean and new. The room was large and the amenities were nice - it's rare to see both a mini fridge and a microwave in a hotel these days. The Keurig coffee maker was nice for our morning before heading home - there's also a Starbucks on site but I'm not sure if it was open. Our room was directly across from an elevator, but we had no issues with noise at night. I loved the big shower and the little towel nook was a nice touch that I haven't seen before - allowing you to grab your towel from inside the shower without it getting wet or having to open the shower door. The toiletry items felt luxurious and I enjoyed the subtle scent. Overall we had a five star, quick stay and would stay here again if needed.

Stayed here in October 2023. Not sure about all the talk regarding homelessness and sketchy area. There's a great market essentially attached to the hotel that's like a Whole Foods (except no salad bar). Lots of restaurants and only 10 minutes from Michigan state university. The room was immaculate. Brand new everything. Very comfortable bed. There's a mini fridge and microwave in the room. They let me check in at 10am. Overall I had a great stay and experienced no scary situations at anytime outside of the hotel.

The first room I was given had hairs everywhere on the sheets, dirt smudges on the covers, and disgusting skin flakes everywhere. The second room I was moved to had hairs everywhere and little spiders in the sheets (see attached picture for one of the spiders I saw). I went down to the front desk and asked if house cleaning could change the sheets, or if I could be moved to another clean room. The front desk lady told me they had no house cleaning on staff at that time, and that she did not want to go up to the rooms and make sure the next one I got was clean. She then recommended I go somewhere else to spend the night. Management has refused to provide a refund, even though I did not spend the night and was essentially told to go somewhere else by their own staff. I will be disputing the charge but wanted to warn people of the service they may receive while they are here. I had an absolutely awful experience, am still trying to get my money back, and will never visit this location again.

I was told it's fine to cancel. Don't worry about it. Cancel my reservation at 12 o'clock. Now on January 29 I receive a charge on my credit card for my room stay and late cancellation. Called the hotel and the representative I spoke to was very nice. She said that she was given orders to tell everyone that's company policy and no cancellations are allowed before 24 hours.

It is my very safe place where everything is delicious and pleasant and evenings on the little porches with a glass of bourbon are the best for evening meditations. However, when recently I called to make a reservation, Joann kept telling me over and over again that every room was the same. When I tried to reply that I didn't feel that way as the decor, the view, the sound, being handicappable, etc. made each cottage unique. She consistently interrupted me to tell me all the rooms were the same even though I mentioned I had been there several times and have seen that they are not, delightful in their own way but she was not to be dissuaded. She couldn't tell me what the two rooms available even looked like. It's a shame that such a beautiful place has this kind of representation of its rooms and grounds when calling to book a room for a period of time. If I wanted a room that looked the same as all the others I could have called a chain hotel company at a considerably lower price point. Please don't sell this place short. The food is fabulous (I believe I have tried everything on the menu), the martinis are fabulous, the service was friendly, professional and yes, fabulous. Despite the attitude, I look forward to my next visit. I'm giving this a five star based on all my prior experiences NOT on the latest conversation when I booked my most recent stay. That was less than 1.

I just went there for our annual Sorority Christmas Dinner Party. The Holiday decor was very…read moreBeautiful. The Room that they put us 8 in again was sweet.., but they didn't light the Fireplace this Year & the Dinner table was set with a stark white Linen tablecloth - with nothing Festive on our table ... just flatware & napkin & water glasses. We all entertain a lot & noticed they didn't bother to make our table look inviting or Festive. The Staff is polite & friendly. However sadly... for the last 4 years I've not been served a decently cooked meal there. I tried their Duck this time hoping it would be good. It was not good. They served it with about 3 bites of some kinda veggie & a wee few bites of potato & what they called a serving of their Duck - which comprised of 2 tiny pieces. One inedible piece was the "dried up end" of what looked like part of the wing & the other piece was a very small 4x2 inch slice of Duck - which when cut was 3 small bites. Really? It was also the worst Dinner ever. I've tried a couple other items in their Menu & the 1 piece of my Chicken Breast Dinner was so dry I couldn't cut it - so I ate the sparsely served potatoes & dinner roll & side salad. Another time I ordered a medium cooked Prime Rib & was served a medium "bloody" rare - she took it back to the kitchen & they microwaved it. After everyone else was done eating - it was then served to me barely warm & it was an unappetizing grey colored - rubber piece of meat that also was so tough even the Waitress couldn't cut it. So I sent it back. Again... I had no Dinner - just a cup of French Onion soup & dinner roll & side salad... they still charged me for the Dinner even though I was not served any Prime Rib- weird. They are still being cheap & not placing a bread basket on the table - there's usually at least 8 of us & other years we've had 10 or 12 attend our Holiday Dinner. A Waitstaff person walks around the table & places 1 small dinner roll on each of our plates. We've all ordered Cocktails & always have had a long wait for our Dinners to be served - so a nicely filled Bread Basket or tray of complimentary relishes - would be nice while we enjoy our drinks & visit. It wouldn't be that expensive to offer considering the meals are over-priced. The Desserts were ordered by all of us & were tasty but very tiny servings for the price. The bathrooms were clean this year so that was nice. I really do wish the food was better cooked & had more substance because it looks like we're going to be there next Year... as traditionally the majority of the Sorority Chapter chooses to go there for the ambiance - which is lovely. The pretty Bar area downstairs is cozy but small & I heard the Bar food in there is good. The English Inn is sadly still NOT handicapped accessible & the food is usually not hot as they have to walk down a flight & a half of stairs to get to the room we're dining in downstairs . An Elevator would be a perfect addition & such a nice Amenity for the Guests to have to use while staying & dining at the English Inn.

Parking is a little weird because you can park in the attached parking garage and take the skywalk to the hotel, which is nice, but we never remember which gate to enter through or which door to open if we're walking up from the street. The skywalk is great, though. The room was clean, spacious, and perfect for a one night stay. Comfy bed, good water pressure, and a mini fridge were all pros. There is no microwave in the room, but our floor had one near the elevators that we did end up using. There is a pool, fitness center, and restaurant on-site but we didn't utilize any of those amenities. Definitely nice to have, though. I'd stay here again!
