This order though my go to hot and sour soup was disgusting. I've gotten it all times ive ordered from black pearl so i know how it's supposed to taste. This family-run gem has been open since 2013. The restaurant is quaint, and has a triangular shaped dining room with approximately 12 tables. The decor is modern and clean. The menu includes the typical Americanized dishes, and also offers an authentic Chinese section. There is a wide variety of choices, and the menu is well organized. Lunch is served with your choice of soup and egg roll. I had the Hot and Sour soup and it was very good. Ingredients were fresh, and I especially noticed the mushrooms and firm tofu. The soup had a great flavor, and was very peppery. We ordered Sautéed String Beans, Orange Chicken, Guang Dong Style Braised Pork, Boiled Fish in Hot Oil, and Shrimp Fried Rice. Everything was quite good, and the highlights that I would recommend were the green beans and the braised pork dishes. The green beans were fresh and sautéed with ground pork. The beans were cooked to perfection: still firm and a little crunchy. The pork sauce was tasty. The Guang Dong Style Braised Pork is a Cantonese style dish. The thin slices of pork are braised with sliced carrots, onions, and cabbage. The seasoning uses a generous helping of Sichuan peppers, and the dish is very spicy. read more

The space itself is very peaceful and calm. The woman who took our order was very kind. We ordered two lunch plates and loved that they came with two egg rolls (well, one spring roll and one egg roll). They were hot and crisp and tasted fresh. Maybe a tad under seasoned but nothing a dip in sauces wouldn't fix. The fried rice has a unique flavor (star anise? 5 spice?) that was the standout of the plate. We got two combos that included Mongolian beef with Sesame Chicken on one and General Tso's on the other. Tasty! The only downside was the Crab Rangoon. I like my wrappers crispier and my filling less sweet. Just a preference thing. All said, if I was in the area, I'd eat here regularly for the kind service and fresh food. Fresh Chinese cuisine. I was greeted as soon as I walked into the restaurant and seated immediately. I went for an early dinner with my mom. Their menu is like a book, so be prepared. She ordered hot and sour soup with Mongolian chicken. I tried both, which were quite tasteful. The soup wasn't out of a packet like most places... it has fresh ingredients and the temperature was just right. I enjoyed sesame chicken and an egg roll. The egg roll man, yum!! It was crispy, and did NOT need any dipping sauce. Yes, this is your typical Chinese food that you can find throughout the bham area, but not this fresh. Called for pick up order. Courteous and trouble free order, said it would be ready in 15 minutes, and I was on site to pick up in 15 minutes. Food was ready when I arrived and everything I ordered and needed was in the package. About 8pm, the restaurant was empty when I arrived. General Tso Chicken, Steamed dumplings and spring rolls. The chicken flavor was spicy and good but not freshly cooked, it tasted a couple hours old. Same with the spring rolls, just overly crunchy and old tasting. The dumplings (only ate one) tasted a little off and the dough was too thick, or undercooked. Love dumplings but these were not good. It would have been a good experience except the food quality was just not good enough for me to come back. A typical Panda Express meal is much better than what I got here. Amazingly wonderful! I was away on business and selected this restaurant close to the hotel I stayed in. The food was very good and prices were reasonable. I was distracted by a business phone call. I left without my credit card and I did not realize it until the next day at the airport when I needed to pay for something and it was not there. I called the Restaurant from the plane and they told me they had my card and would mail it to my home. I just got home and received it. I can't think them enough for getting my credit card to me. Nice hidden little gem tucked away at the Colonnade. Came here with friends after they had boasted of it's greatness. Very limited on outdoor seating, so arrive early if it's a nice day and you're hoping to sit outside. Overall small on the inside with about a dozen tables. Staff (4 stars): Friendly and attentive. Drink orders were promptly taken and delivered without any mix ups. Plenty of time was given to explore the ENORMOUS menu and offerings that they had. Apps delivered while we were figuring out what we wanted. Orders placed and everything came out exactly as ordered. Food (4 Stars): Started with the Crab Rangoon app. Fried really well, almost to perfection, and creamy just as you would expect. Overall appearance and flavor were very good. I had the Mongolian Delight (Shrimp, beef, chicken, with scallions and onions. This was served with your choice of white rice or fried rice (always pick fried rice....always, always). Very large serving with a side bowl of fried rice. The Mongolian Delight is probably the best Mongolian dish I have had since being in Birmingham. Flavored so well. Slight hint of sweet, but not overpowering like so many places seem to serve. Atmosphere: This place is casual by nature, but you could be business casual and bring clients and and fit in just fine. I got the red curry tofu and it was amazing. All the veggies in it tasted super fresh and a good amount of heat. The woman who took my order was extremely kind. It's more of a pickup style place than dine-in, but they do have one table inside and a couple outside. In the waiting area, they have a Keurig machine to help yourself with some coffee and cookies on the table. I ordered the shrimp in lobster sauce to test the authenticity of the Chinese food (so I can't speak for the quality of the other Asian foods) and I was missing a bit of home.
