Piccante Pizza
David K.

Eataly has locations all around the world offering a marketplace and restaurant offering specialty Italian food items--and there was no better place to try this chain out than in its home country of Italy! The Insalata Naturale was a simple, refreshing mixture of mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, radicchio, roasted zucchini, chickpeas, and walnuts; and the freshly-baked Piccante pizza came topped with a Cosi Come yellow datterino tomato sauce, Campisi chili sauce, stracciatella cheese, and basil. The yellow tomato sauce had a much lighter flavor than its red counterpart, the stracciatella cheese added a light creaminess, and the chili sauce added just the right kick of spice! Finally, we had the Filetto di Orata al Cartoccio, a fillet of sea bream with datterino cherry tomatoes and taggiasca olives, all wrapped in plastic and steamed. The sea bream was super tender and had a nice sweet, salty, acidic flavor from the tomatoes and olives. Overall, the food here was simple and delicious, and Eataly did a great job of representing the key aspects of Italian slow food in an accessible way.

I really like Eataly, and venture into them whenever I come across them in my travels, so I was really excited to visit this one in Florence. It's actually located in Italy, where Eataly originated. Their first store started in Torino, just a few hours from Florence. Since arriving in Florence, I've wandered in here here on several occasions to pick up cooking staples, since we're just a few doors down. It's a great spot to pick up fresh pasta, quality olive oils and vinegars, etc. I bought their fresh Fagottini with Speck, since good fresh fagottini isn't easy to find in the Bay Area. These meat-filled cinched pouches held up well in boiling water. In fact, only about a couple broke opened during the boiling process. The speck itself wasn't overly salted or overly smoked, which speck can sometimes be. I made a simple dish with it for our lunch yesterday (see photo), and Hubby loved it so much that he wants me to make a pasta every day we're here (sorry, but that won't be happening!). Many of their items both in the U.S. and here in Italy tend to be pricey since they're located in very high-rent locations. However, they do carry a couple of excellent brands of imported dried pastas that are virtually impossible to purchase in the U.S. They're sold exclusive in the U.S. through the Eataly chain. Most importantly, these ones specifically are probably the best dried pastas I've had. I try to get my fill from their Las Vegas location whenever I can and reserve them for special occasions They also make excellent pizza here, which I've enjoyed for breakfast, to much of my chagrin. I got a piece of the Pizza Alla Pala, which was topped with fresh slices of tomatoes, and most importantly a whole entire chunk of fresh burrata!! I buy imported burrata at home all the time, especially when I make a Caprese Salad, but never ever have I had a whole piece on top of a pizza! Truth be told, the burrata was the real reason for my craving when I immediately set eyes on this. Just check out my photo, and you'll see why! Turns out, it tasted even better than it looked. The dough was chewy, and that burrata...mmm good!!! It was perfect room temperature, just the way it should be served, and the inside was soft and just a bit stringy. Perfetto! Personally, I prefer the significantly larger Eataly locations, like the ones in Boston, NYC, and Las Vegas. My favorite in the U.S. is their "glam" Las Vegas location. However, this was a nice branch that carried many quality essentials for Italian cooking. Can't go wrong with that!

If you've never been to an Eataly, go right now. Italian inspired, but it's American merchandised and marketed all-the-way. I've been to the one in NY (Flatiron district on Fifth Ave), and this is much smaller (by a longshot). Still, it's beautiful, super clean, and phenomenal -- I found the staff delightful and helpful. The gf and I needed a break from pasta and pizza, and decided to make our own feast: olive bread, mortadella, salami, pecorino cheese, and some olive oil. At the meat and cheese counter, they had a chianti by the glass for 3.5 euros...and we got a couple of glasses of it. We ate outside on the boardwalk, and it was honestly one of our favorite meals of the trip. After, we went back into the store and bought pastas, sauces, olive oils, cookies, and a variety of chocolate spreads for gifts (and us!).

I love Eataly. The first one that I ever went to was the one in New York couple of years ago. Then they opened one here in LA and I absolutely love visiting frequently. While in Florence last year we noticed that we are staying right by Eataly and got super excited. Stopped by few times for lunch. They don't have as many selection as the one here in LA but I still enjoyed the food they offered. Specially the fresh bread and sandwiches they make. The location is great, right by the Duomo.

We ate in the sit down portion of the restaurant. The food didn't have a lot of flavor, the portions were kind of small, and it was on the pricier side. The service wasn't great either. There are definitely more authentic, tastier places to eat in Florence. The shop part of Eataly is really cool. It's a great place to shop for gifts.

Nice place to have casual eat. Not as amazing as everyone makes it out. The pasta dishes were very good. The house sauce was very good The pizza was good but I wasn't in love with the new dough. The service was a hit or miss. Out guy kept disappearing and it took forever get back to us. A 2 hrs lunch was a bit much for a small group. The takeaway area seemed to be way better.

I was really excited to stay so near to Eataly that I had to visit. This location is somewhat small, but still has the basics of what an Eataly contains. I had an espresso, a hot sandwich, and bought some groceries while I was there. The espresso was really good and went perfectly with my sandwich. I sat outside while enjoying my meal so I can enjoy the Firenze scenery.

We had lunch at Eataly today during a guided tour. This is a combination restaurant/market that we found to be excellent. The restaurant accommodated our handicapped daughter with no issues and we had the seasonal specialty, Tortello, for lunch. It was delicious and the portion size was perfect. If you are in the Florence city center, I strongly urge you to try this restaurant. Once you are done eating, you should indulge a bit and do a bit of shopping the market.

Eataly is a chain. I was searching for truffle chips for my sister and found it! Very pricey for a small bag of chips - 2 euros! I bought the tiramisu yogurt and wow I could eat this all day. It wasn't crazily sweet and it hit the craving for sweets. I wish I bought more. They have bathrooms and free wifi.

I love this store...one stop Italian gourmet shopping. Great Italian wine shop and eateries. Their products are high quality. I just wish they had more employees available to help with the check-out process.

I came here thinking it would be grander and bigger than the Eataly in NY but it just felt like a smaller version of the NY one with way less stalls and food selection. You'd be better off going to a grocery store in Italy and avoiding the Eataly markup. In terms of prepared food, they have a counter in the back that sells focaccia and slabs of pizza by the weight, a coffee and baked goods/pastry counter, and then a restaurant upstairs that serves pizza, pasta and other Italian dishes. I wanted a quick snack and settled for a piece of pizza that had sun-dried tomatoes, zucchini, and burrata. I asked if they could heat it up, to which they said yes, and then after I had paid and asked if they could heat it up, she said they couldn't. The pizza was cold, it had probably been sitting out all day, so I picked around the burrata, ate some of the zucchini and tomatoes and threw out the rest. It was 3,50€ for a small piece, which wasn't cheap, and it was certainly one of the worst things I ate during my 10 days in Italy. Skip this tourist trap that is designed for mostly Americans - you can find much better food elsewhere in Italy, and buy the same products at many other grocery stores and speciality stores.

Have been to 3 total Eataly locations: New York City, Los Angeles, and now Florence! The NYC location is easily my favorite due to its size and quality. I love this location though great food that never disappoints and an amazing little market as well consisting of every Italian delicacy!!

I guess if that's all there is then you are good. Been to eataly in Chicago and have to say we were disappointed in the one on Italy. The food was boring, some of it was simply warm and gnocchi was disgusting. I would suggest walking past and find something else.

This review is long overdue for our visit back in November of 2024. I was looking up Nduja recipe…read moreand reminded myself this was the place that initiated my love for Nduja sauce. American/Aussie owned bakery brunch spot by the river, such a cute little eatery. We loved our visit and though it's definitely more of a touristy spot, as most customers spoke English, the food was delicious to forgo the tourist trappy vibes. We shared a plate and added some items as we didn't want to get too stuffed on our first day of Florence. We had the Nduja Eggs plate with bacon and avocado added. Nduja is a spicy Calabrian pepper spreadable pork sauce, and oh boy was it so flavorful. If I remembered correctly, Melaleuca spread this sauce on top of a fried bread and eggs. I don't see it on the menu at the moment and it's probably a rotatable dish... but it definitely kicked started my hunt for the sauce. Since this is a spreadable pork, it's not something I could bring back to the US but I was able to find it online back home. The service was amazing and the beverages were delicious. Like many Italian places, the dining room is small and bathroom is a single small room that might require a small wait if they're busy. Didn't get to try their baked goods this last time, but definitely on our list to go back for more when we're back to Florence for a visit.

Nice to have a real brunch, not just coffee and croissant. Service was great and the place was busy but not loud. Can't speak highly enough. Go u won't be sorry!
