There seems to be a gelato shop on every corner in Florence. This shop is located in the most touristy area of Florence and the prices reflect that. Aside from a bar they mainly have pastries and gelato. There is no seating inside, it's a place to "grab and go". I stopped here for some coffee gelato. But guess what? They were out. So I got two scoops in a cup of different flavors - stracciatella and tiramisu. The stracciatella barely had any chocolate chips at all and was served quite melted. The tiramisu had a fantastic flavor but was far too soft and runny. Even though it was a cool night, before I was halfway through the cup, the gelato was complete liquid. My takeaway is that this is not the best choice for gelato. read more

The next day I went in and paid €4.00 for the same cappuccino. The cappuccinos are only okay. No, we did not sit down so there was no seat charge. However, beware that their seating charge and prices are quite high. would not return. there are too many other good places all up and down the street and the surrounding area. Our first walk into Bar Perseo, the owners and staff (Roberto) made our initial visit VERY warm and inviting! The selection of pastries was WOW!, Italian Coffee's and restaurant food was excellent. Each day we spent in Florence up to our last day was absolutely our goto place to sit, relax, eat and enjoy the views of the Piazza della Signoria while people watching. Roberto was very engaging not only with us but as we observed with every guest he was taking care off, the staff was of the same pleasant attitude. For my wife and I, it made our vacation all the more pleasant after miles of exploring and sightseeing! There are others writing low reviews because of the prices, well, location - location - location. Yes, there are other establishments around the corner anyone can enjoy and its all good. We showed up on Christmas and this place has the best service. We ordered multiple americanos with omelettes and also several croissants. All in bits and pieces of orders. Gelato Review Said this before, but when we were in Italy we had gelato every day (twice a day). We had gelato in Milan, Venice, Florence, Rome, Sorrento & Capri island. They are a corner store located at the Piazza della Signoria. It's a beautiful location with plenty of things to look at while you sip your drink or try one of their Italian desserts. I have to say... even though it was a bit pricey BAR Perseo had reallly good gelato. I tried 3 of their flavors (pistachio, hazelnut chocolate and a chocolate cookie flavor) and was in heaven! We have stopped in for breakfast here twice before going to Ufizzi. It is a great location. We sat outside and watched people go by. I had a cafe latte, it was decent. The pasteries here are divine! Not sure what all the hate is about, but I'm a fan of booze and custom coffees! All I could think of was Julia Roberts trying to order her espresso in Eat, Pray, Love. During the morning, this coffee shop is piping hot with tourists and locals--but more locals than you'd think. On a corner of the Piazza Della Signora, it's a traditional Italian cafe where you order at the counter and sip/eat at said counter whilst making new friends. Tip 1: Hot chocolate in Italy isn't Swiss Miss. It means melting a chocolate bar, adding a smattering of milk and topping off with heavy cream. If you can't sip syrup, I'd suggest getting something else. Tip 2: get an Irish coffee. I'm not a fan, but the near freezing temperatures forced me to give this body-warmer a try. I swear this was one of the tastiest concoctions I've ever sipped! It was also fun seeing the barista expertly prepare our drinks. Tip 3: If you sit outside, you'll see lots if horse-drawn carriages near the patio. Ask to pet the horses. It was such an otherworldly, magical experience to have horses so tame that they lean into you when you pet them. Tip 4: Their desserts are enormous and worth the price. I order strawberries and cream and they brought out a goblet with at least 2 trays or sliced strawberries and a heaping mound of real whipped cream the size of a baseball. His gelato trio could have fed a Roman legion - no, seriously, 3 baseball-sized scoops with an assortment of cookies and hot fudge do not make happy jeans. read more

Downright rude staff and they overcharge you for everything. Taking advantage of tourists gets you nowhere if your looking at this review MANAGEMENT. 6.50 euro for a cappucino that costs 1.50 when sitting inside is ridiculous. We had 2 coffee and 2 slices of bruschetta ended up with a 22 euro while sitting down against 9 euros if you just pick up. They should inform before hand of the different prices rather than handing you a big fat bill. read more

My wife and I stopped here for a bite to eat at lunchtime while wandering Florence. The waiter was good about helping to find dishes that were gluten free. The food was okay, and the service was okay. You can't beat the scenery, either (and an awesome marching band went by as we were eating). On the down side, we were approached multiple times while sitting at the cafe outdoors by people begging for money, all very aggressive. I understand that's part of reality as a tourist in Florence, but I really didn't expect it while sitting at lunch. DO NOT GO HERE. The woman behind the counter obviously took advantage of me as a tourist. I asked in Italian for just a little gelato in a cone, and she asked me to choose my cone. After the first scoop, I said that was enough. She continued scooping about a pint size amount onto the cone I chose, against my wishes. Over my insistence to stop scooping, she said it was because of the type of cone I chose. Since she already scooped the gelato onto the cone, they wouldn't change my order and charged me 6 euros rather than the 2.50 euro cone I had wanted. Hands down the worst place I went to in Florence. We ordered our food and were told to go outside where it would be brought to us. What we were not told is that we would be charged almost 3 times as much for the privilege of eating their mediocre garbage outside. This resulted in paying over 30 euro for gas station food -- we ate masterpiece meals in Florence for less. When we pointed this out to our waiter he just shrugged, pretty much confirming it was our fault for being dumb enough to eat in this hole. Avoid this place like the plague. "Excellent food, great service and the best view in Florence" Last week I was in Florence for a few days and had some meals at Bar Caffe Perseo right on the amazing Piazza della Signoria and they were delicious., I discovered it one morning when I just sat there to enjoy the view and ordered a Coca Light - and the very professional and pleasant waiter also brought me (on the house) 2 small 'canapes' of very thin salami over small pieces of toast with goat cheese and some potato sticks, Such refinement surprised me!. So I went twice again, for lunch and dinner, with my daughter. She had amazing Gnocchi with pears and Gorgonzola sauce and in the second meal she had a breaded Chicken cutlet (crispy and not greasy at all). I had a delicious Lasagna 'della Nonna' and a simple Pasta Pomodoro...The 4 dishes were excellent, well made and the tomato sauce was fresh, light and used sparingly as they do in great Italian restaurants, Each meal for 2 with a glass of wine averaged $47.
