On every Saturday night (apart from one a month, can't remember if it's the first or the last -soz) they have a club night called "department s" run by Bristol legend Jon The Mod and his lovely other half Jamie (Jamie runs the gimme shelter vintage boutique in the foyer of the venue) Jon has been playing in various bristol venues for donkey's years (ever since I can remember) he specialises in 60s Garage Beats, Northern Soul, 60's GROOVES, Rock and Roll, Two Tone, Tamla, Alt 80's, MOD and INDIE Anthems - ( I stole that bit from his website ) It's guaranteed to be a good night and quite often there will be a band playing, last week was the gimme Hendrix experience, a fantastic Jimi Hendrix tribute band, there is also a large courtyard for smokers but it's also a nice place to sit if you need to cool down a bit from all the dancing !

Some of the standout items for me came from the Indian station, including dishes like dahi bhalla, Amritsari fish (breaded fish, which was much more flavorful than the fish and chips at the Great British station), tandoori naan, dal tadka, vegetable korma, aloo gobi, rogan josh, and chicken tikka masala, all of which were boldly and authentically spiced. Other items I liked included the reggae wings (jerk chicken wings) from Jamaica; the pico de gallo, guacamole, and smoked salsa from Mexico; and the soft-serve vanilla ice cream from the dessert station. Still there were so many other items that I barely got to try including Thai Green Curry with Chicken, Black Pepper Beef, British beef stew and mushy peas, and several made-to-order stations including dosas, piri-piri chicken, pasta, risotto, and noodles. My waitress was a wee star, I just thought she was brilliant at her job and she gave brilliant customer service and she's the reason for 3 rather than 2 stars, I would have given 4 but I want to give them something to work towards, as the food must be as good as the customer service. I would return again but would have no hesitation sending back if I had the same bread issues again. Trips from London to Bristol have been scheduled in the past for no other reason than a Kino Visit and will be scheduled in the future for no other reason for a Kino Visit. I do have friends in Bristol, but it's very much Kino first, friends second. And I say that only semi-jokingly. They have a space downstairs where they put on arts stuff. I once saw a play there called Whiskey Tango. The food and drink is all vegan, and is all great. I am a vegetarian, not a vegan, but it never feels like you're just eating a bunch of lentils here. The food has a substantial feel to eat, which they sort of engender by having vegan bacon in their sandwiches, etc. I usually go for a milkshake and the vegan breakfast. I feel an immense satisfaction after having consumed these items. There's so much variety on the menu that I should really try something new each time I come, although I usually end up sticking to the old favourites. There are so many cakes, biscuits, teas, sandwiches etc available that there really is something for everyone. Even the most hardened carnivore would struggle not to like this place. There's something about the space, too, that I like. You feel very free inside. It has a nice community feel to it. The staff have always been great. Give this place a go. But be careful.
