Yes, this is a dive bar. Yes, this bar is rough around the edges. Yes, a lot of people know each other here. BUT if you are a die-hard: - Comedy Fan - Trivia Buff - Karaoke Singer - Dance Machine - Rap Battler Or are just willing to be open-minded, stand behind your opinions and have a good time, come to Eastside. This bar takes peoples ideas and lets them test them out on a small stage around friends. I had the pleasure of DJing a weekly comedy show, and one night even got to fulfill my childhood dream of being a bartender (weird I know). I was a nerdy, RA in college who loved following rules and the occasional whisky diet or three, and I found a home at this bar. This place has correctly been categorized as a "dive." It is dirty and dingy and the wooden boothes are gnawed. I realize there's a time and place for (almost) everything. If you don't have a neck-beard or tight jeans, you might not feel at home in this bar. You might get some weird glances if you wear anything too conventional. This place does feature some excellent local music, though. Just some kids trying their best to prove Columbia's not a musical wasteland. Keep in mind I like dive bars, and actively seek them out while reading this. This bar doesn't look like much on the outside, but inside you find a well seasoned base bar with great atmosphere for those who love horror culture and classic rock and metal. The place has a pool table and darts, jukebox and a sandwich shop called "Sandwitch" that does hot, horror themed sandwiches. Enjoying a "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" while writing this. Bar is limited, but if you like local flavor, come in and get a taste. read more

Saw a fun comedy show there Tuesday night at 10. Looking forward to trying out the game night they have every Monday. The ambience is terrific, I love the decor and the "geeky" action figures. They have Angry Orchard on tap and free water. read more

Used to LOVE this bar when it had its awesome 80s music dance nights. Sadly they don't have them anymore, and they do way too much karaoke, so I don't go there anymore. Eastside Tavern can be described best as a hipster and dorky bottom shelf bar. The bar itself is somewhat of a dive. It's decor is very unique and gives the establishment a lot of character. Opposed to a lot of the other bars in Columbia, Eastside appeals to a different crowd, and is not a sports bar. As for their specials, they are not the best. If you want to run a credit card tab, you have to spend a minimum of ten dollars, so bring cash. The bar itself is very small (fifteen people max could probably sit around the hightop). The beer selection is sparse, and top sellers include PBR and Stag (meh...). Alcohol selection is limited, and if you're looking for a popular branded whiskey or vodka, you will likely get the black sheep. Eastside is known for their karaoke, trivia, and stand up comedy nights. It's pretty amateur as expected, but can still be a fun time. read more

Eastside is a great geeky tavern to get drinks at with your buddies. The drinks are reasonably priced and the staff are wicked cool. They have the best Karaoke setup in town. Comedy night is a neat experience. The regulars are friendly. Eastside is a nice place to spend a low-key weeknight or a fun and silly weekend. read more

Poorest night service. Stood at the bar for 12:36 min:sec and was not served. Then was told there for "2:00 min" tops and they were closing for the night. Normally great, but terrible on this given night. Door lady very nice though. read more

It's a real alternative bar. Not one of those trendy alt bars that caters to posers though. It's themed with horror memorabilia has a good local crowd. It's free of frat boys and annoying sorority girls. Used to be a metal/emo bar, but now has much more variety. It's a place you can actually grab a drink without feeling crowded. This is a bar that has changed with the scene of downtown Columbia. Years ago, it was great to see live music, and hang with friends... now it's a great place to see amateur comedy, listen to 80's music, drink Stag or PBR or other local crafted beers, enjoy friends dance to disco, or just plain hang out. The addition of the "SandWitch" horror themed sandwich shop allows you to get tasty treats as well.... if you're looking for a sports bar or other types, there are plenty of other places to choose from, but for being a great downtown bar with a horror based theme, this is an excellent time! read more

Unique decor. Fun events. Attracts hipster types and homeless people. Has a questionable amount of karaoke nights. Men's bathroom lacks a lock. Place smells pretty bad and is really dirty. Bar staff is friendly, minus the karaoke DJs. Great prices on drinks. Pretty small so it gets crowded. Like hanging out in your friend's cool brother's room in the basement. read more
