Girl jumping off the high-dive at the Eastside Pool.
Daniel J.

Have you ever heard someone say 'it's the people that make this place'? Well, this is the perfect way to describe the Eastside Pool. From the outside, the Eastside Pool looks just like an average building located on the Southern end of Deputy Pierre W. Bain Park. But despite the lack of curb appeal, the employees that work here really make this place a 5-star business. My family and I have come to this pool several times over the last several years, and I have always been incredibly impressed with the kids that run this place. Here's a quick summary of my rating: - Instructor professionalism: 5 stars - Instructor friendliness: 5 stars - Instructor enthusiasm: 5 stars - Instructor patience: 5 stars - Instructor safety: 5 stars - Instructor training: 5 stars - Pool cleanliness: 5 stars - Facility infrastructure: 4 stars - Overall value: 5 stars In short, the instructors are awesome. Their level of professionalism, friendliness and enthusiasm with children and adults is incredible. I have also witnessed their ability to teach some children with special needs, which clearly shows their skills in patience, where they also shine. I really appreciate that the instructors demonstrate a high level of safety every time I come, from the way they carefully watch everyone in the pool to the way they carefully ensure that all kids climbing the ladder to the high dive are well protected. They always have the appropriate level of instructors for each class, which also depends on the age and ability of their students. In addition to the appropriate level of instructors, there is always at least one lifeguard that has overall visibility of the entire pool and they can personally take action or direct safety actions as necessary. The level of training of these instructors is also excellent, since it is important for all students to not only be safe but to also understand the proper techniques while swimming. Unlike some other swimming pools we have had instruction from in Antelope Valley, all the instructors here are American Red Cross certified swim instructors. Believe me, there is a huge difference in the techniques that are taught, where instructors at other pools in the Antelope Valley pay minimal attention to the proper swimming techniques that should be learned. The instructors teach classes from level 1 through level 6, as outlined by the American Red Cross. They offer lessons for all ages, from tots to adults, and from group classes to individual instruction. They also offer classes to become a professional lifeguard, as well as a training program to become part of the Jr. lifeguard program. Maintaining a high level of cleanliness is also a top priority for the staff here, which is extremely important to me as well. Before we started coming to the Eastside Pool we were going to another public pool in Lancaster that did a poor job of maintaining pool cleanliness. In fact, we abruptly stopped going to our last pool because my children all simultaneously developed an entire-body skin rash and got sick from swimming there. Coming to the Eastside Pool was a refreshing change, where the pool cleanliness is always maintained and I periodically see the staff chemically testing the water for safety. The restrooms are also frequently cleaned. In fact, I see the employees cleaning the restrooms every time I come to this pool. The Eastside Pool is a large, 10-lane indoor heated pool, with the building having plenty of indoor air heaters to keep everyone warm during cold weather. The facility has the capability of opening eight large doors on the sides of the building to keep the inside nice and cool with a pleasant natural cross-flow ventilation during the Summertime. The pool also has seven diving platforms, as well as three diving boards. The depth of the swimming pool ranges from 3.5 feet to 13 feet. Several bleachers and individual chairs are available around the perimeter of the pool for family members and friends watching the swimmers. There is very little that can be improved at the Eastside Pool, but if I was to make any suggestions one would be to make improvements to the existing infrastructure. Specifically, the restrooms need to be renovated, and the building could also use a fresh coat of paint inside and outside. An easier suggestion to implement would be to increase the lighting inside and outside, which is just a matter of turning on more of the lighting that exists. In summary, I am extremely pleased with the Eastside Pool, primarily due to the exemplary performance and dedication of the staff. If you are interested in attending some type of swim courses in the Antelope Valley, for you and/or for someone in your family, I highly suggest you consider enrolling at the Eastside Pool.

Can't believe this pool is still open. I use to swim here back in the early 90's! It was a fun pool back in the days. Haven't been in years.

Ok so we wanted to try a new park, so I gather up the kids and we head over. This park has a kids…read moresplash pad (I assume is open during the summer months.) The playground has a large rocket which is at least 30 feet high! It includes two totally enclosed tube slides and another 2-4 lower slides. In fact it was so tall I was afraid my 2-4 yo's would be too scared to go up to top, but nope! It took them 2 to 3 times walking up the stairs to gather the courage, but once they did it trying to get them off the slide to put on jackets became more of an issue. We had a water gun fight, ate some snacks and they played til they were wore out. I heard this isn't the grandest neighborhood, although I didn't experience any issues, I am not familiar enough with the AV area to give a honest opinion: good or bad about that so know that my star rating is based solely on my experience inside the park not the neighborhood. The pluses for me was that they had a clean play area and the splash zone is right next to the two grounds. One set is for say 5 yo and up and a more milder toddler area all in same eye path, so you could easily watch two sets of kids. There is a lot of grass areas so you can camp out, have a picnic and make it a day trip with young ones. There is ample parking with a well lit lot. The soccer and other fields were brightly lit so you can play organized sports at night. What I did have a issue with is: The playground isn't lit up at night. (see pics below) which I truly don't understand. We waited thinking that the timer hadn't spring forward with time, but after looking around noticed two things the light structure is set for a dim yellow almost amber light while all the fields have super bright white lights and that one light was actually on so the other 2-3 lights just hadn't been maintained! Shame on parks and rec to not thinking of the safety of children especially during spring time when families are coming back out in larger groups. And next a question for parks and rec. Why does the playground where our most precious gems would play have the dimmest lights? You are putting children at risk of falling, being touched or hit inappropriately or worse (use your imagination!) This should be the brightest lights the park has not the darn soccer field. How is any mom and/or dad going to go let the little ones play while waiting for their older ones to finish up a practice or game with little to no lights? That needs to be addressed ASAP!!! and that is the reason my rating is only a 3 star, because I think that dusk time visits would be unsafe for most families.

There is one spot I think they missed a great tree spot to cover all the parental views, but that's just a small inconvenience. They would have earned 5 stars of there was a splash pad, water mister or something there! I just don't understand why every park in the AV doesn't have a water element as hot as it is here. Temps range 90+° as early as April until as late as October. (Since they can afford to water the fields mid-day in the summer the water and cost isn't a issue) I didn't visit restrooms so I can't comment on them, the park is clean and well maintained. I appreciate that the water fountain is clean and in working condition also that they have a doggie bowl for our family pets. That was well thought out Also it is kind of handicap accessible for kids that need extra assistance. They have ramps onto equipment and they have a rocking type ride that a child who was there in a chair was able to enjoy. It would be great if a swing for them could be added idk how but something that can lock in a chair and let them also enjoy that. But the fact it isn't sand means a lot for some kids I thought that was very well thought through. I will bring the baby back again she enjoyed herself
