Incredible experience for my first visit at Eastern Sierra Eyecare. I am so glad I chose them for my eye exam and glasses prescription. The office is excellently organized, and the staff is both attentive and highly qualified. Everything runs smoothly, everyone knows exactly what to do, and the entire operation is truly professional. Dr. Raymond Ruckman is absolutely amazing. He is highly knowledgeable, checked everything thoroughly, and took his time explaining the results. Even though I only came in for a routine prescription, Dr. Ruckman dedicated a significant amount of time to my care and caught an underlying issue that needed addressing. His assistants were also outstanding and incredibly supportive throughout the process. This does speak for our Optician, Ariz, who was very patient, charismatic and knowledgeable with helping my wife pick her prescription glasses and frames out. Where do I start...First off neither of the OD's here ever treated me, we didn't get that far. However, Ruckman, OD is a man that lacks integrity and may have an issue with people that don't look like him. Let me explain......His demeanor was less that respectable when we spoke face to face, in fact he was down right rude and without cause. I arbitrarily stoped by his office on my way home from Reno, It was suggested to me not by someone who patronize his office but from someone that lives near him, I can't speak on the relationship he has with neighbors but he came at me all wrong and not without pushback. The young lady at the front desk couldn't have been more pleasant, truth be told she was a big part of why I made the appointment we hit it off very well. Unfortunately, the information she provided with regards to eye health insurance wasn't accurate. The issue came when I was taken back to an exam room and prior to the eye health exam, which I explained to the young lady at the front desk the day before that it was performed by a licensed ophthalmologist a few days prior. The (I assume was the med tech) back office woman and I had a pleasant but confusing discussion on how the results of the ophthalmologist come into play. She was unsure of the way to proceed and she suggested to retrieve the back office supervisor but it would be a while, so I agreed and waited patiently. This third person abruptly entered the exam room where the door was closed and clearly was disturbed with me as if I were waisting her time and my technical unanswered questions seemed to make her audibly upset. Once I noticed that this conversation wasn't producing the answers I was asking, I requested to see a manager or owner. Remember I am a potential patient shopping for glasses only, now in the same manner Ruckman abruptly enters the room and and clearly has some sort of attitude. He spoke to me standing over me while I sat with his hands folded speaking very kurt. I then stood up to continue our conversation as to not give him the impression he is somehow intimidating me, he changed the subject to say that the last person told him I called her a MF'er. Then he said this, " if I have an issue with an employee I should request a manager" ... This is the exact reason he was summoned by me. DUH..!!! So he came in there with an attitude from the woman before, I explained to him that I was a veteran and a career first responder of 31 years and he should check his attitude and vet he stories he is told by his young staff. Needless to say at this point there as no way I would ever use this office. Accusatory staff, Ruckman doesn't do due diligence and has the audacity to accuse me at the age of 61and a pillar of my community. I asked him to speak with the three other staff members I encountered the previous day and this day, he refused. It narrows it down to nothing other than a personal dislike of how I appear to him. He's a disgrace to this community he should consider how he approaches people and how his words will land with someone who has been excluded before, your tone can create a certain perception. I have had atleast 4 visits to this practice. It is consistently obvious that the staff has exceptional customer service skills. This is a very refreshing experience that when combined with the thoroughness of the Optometrists makes Eastern Sierra Eye care my first choice going forward. Each department was friendly and professional. The lab they use for lenses offers Zeiss products and the staff assisting in the selection process are well informed and helpful. Horrible service !!!!!! I've been getting eye exams and glasses and eye prescriptions for 35 years. DO NOT USE THEM!!! they gave my daughter a glasses prescription and then took extra long to fill it charged me 50 dollars more for a coating and then when I tried to get her contacts prescription filled they had me pay 50 dollars more for a fitting she's been wearing contacts for 5 years. I have had my eyes checked twice at this location. When your at a eye dr eye drs move so fast. You have no time to say no, or stop or even question what they are doing. I give them a two star review because they do not use gloves. That's right the assistant put medicine in my eyes with no gloves on. In fact, the eye dr touched under my eye with no glove on. I have been to a couple different Eyecare places and I'm really happy I continue to come here. It's a little more expensive BUT they have some really great equipment which will likely help you out in the long run. Our eyesight is NOT something you want to skimp on so I'm happy to pay a little more for excellent care and knowledgeable staff. Furthermore, I like that they watch potential problem areas like my lower than normal nerve in my eye. Appreciate the care they take in helping me stay focused so to speak. read more

There seem to be some issues at the front desk, or organization, or their computer system, bc 1. after making an appointment in person to get an eye exam a few days later, they had no record of my appointment when I returned, 2. after paying for my new glasses I was called to say they would be placing a hold on ordering my glasses bc they had no record of my payment. However, I have the receipt and the bank record of the transaction. They remedied these issues, but I think Eastern Sierra Eyewear needs to get it together. I am sorry I didn't read Ralph H.'s review from January 2019. He is dead on the money, pun very much intended. This place is expensive and may very well be guilty of deceptive trade practices. I also wonder if this tends to be commonplace with elderly patients. My husband and I made same-day appointments at Eastern Sierra Eyecare. His morning appointment resulted in a long list of diagnoses, including one for suspected glaucoma that required four- and eight- month follow-up appointments. He has had his eyes checked annually and has not had issues with glaucoma. However, he does have a family history of glaucoma so we didn't think much of it. At my afternoon appointment, I was given a variety of similar diagnoses, including suspected glaucoma with exact same four- and eight-month follow ups. Unlike my husband, I do not have a family history of glaucoma and have had no issues with my eyes whatsoever. Needless to say, I was quite upset. I was also suspect of how many issues were diagnosed, all for the first time, and how much they overlapped with my husband's diagnosis. My prescription had changed so I had two sets of lenses replaced. When I picked up the first set, I felt the prescription wasn't quite right but decided to use them for a few days just to make sure. After realizing that the prescription was wrong and being troubled by the laundry-list of diagnoses, I decided it was time to see another doctor. Understand that this second opinion was out of pocket since I had used up my vision benefit but the $104 was well worth it. The second doctor confirmed a bunch of things. First, I had no issues with glaucoma. On the contrary, my eye pressure was extremely low. She went on to say that if she had a patient that she suspected had glaucoma, she would administer tests immediately, rather wait four months. Excellent point. Second, she confirmed the new lenses were wrong. One lens was off a quarter diopter and the second a half diopter. Third, I did not have dry eye or an infection or glandular dysfunction, two other diagnoses that had been flagged by Dr. Ruckman. I returned to Eastern Sierra Eyecare with the correct prescription in hand and explained that their prescription was wrong. When I shared the right prescription with them, I was told "It's only a quarter diopter off in the left eye." I'm usually not at a loss of words but I have to admit I couldn't believe was I was hearing. The good news is that they did agree to correct the mistake at no additional charge. While I had initially asked for both set of lenses to be polarized, I subsequently changed my mind. I was told that both sets of lenses had been made at the same time and there was nothing they could do other than to start on a new set of lenses, which would be my cost to bear. They quoted $400 and they offered a 20% discount lowering the price to $340. Since this seemed high, I decided to go to Eyemart Express and was quoted $220. Needless to say, Eyemart Express got the business and I estimate that I spent about 50% more than I needed to by purchasing product from Eastern Sierra Eyecare. In summary, caveat emptor! read more

Doctor Ruckman and his staff have always been professional and very thorough with all my eyecare needs. Dr Ruckman was recommended by my Eye care specialist at Lima Linda medical center in California. I have more than one eye conditions that require treatment and Dr Ruckman and his staff have been in top of my eye care needs since I moved to Carson City 5 years ago. I'm sure I could find cheaper glasses made somewhere else, but i doubt I'd find the same relationship I have with staff and Dr Ruckman. I can't put a price on my vision, but can on experience , and Eastern Sierra Eyecare is worth it. read more

Dr. Ruckman gives a very thorough exam and answers all questions. He never rushes the patient and really makes you feel like you matter. He seems to have all the modern equipment to make sure your eye care is paramount in all visits. Support staff are also professional and seem to have genuine concern for patient care. The only negative would be a better frame selection is needed and poor parking. But those really aren't a big deal when it comes to eye care. read more

The first pair of lenses made me feel dizzy, even after a month. I was charged a fee for the re-exam. He said I had given him a wrong answer the first time. At the end he gave me the test glasses to look through, and I could hardly see the poster much less read the letters. He took them back and said "Oops, I guess it does matter if it's a plus or a minus." The second pair of lenses don't make me dizzy, but the right lens of my old glasses is actually better than the new one. I definitely won't be back. read more

The office is geared toward making money. Period! Services- No better or worse than other places. What really makes this place somewhere you dont want to go is this: They will make money off you any way they can. here is my story. About two weeks ago, I had a eye exam....nothing else, because I go to a eye specialist that takes care of the all other tests. I conveyed this to the check in lady, the exam lady and the doctor. I go back to get exam, everything is ok. Dr comes in, looks at test results. Asks a question or two. He asks if I want tests, dialation etc? I said no....so no tests. I am done. I pay the $60.00 exam fee. Then they want me to buy their glasses.. No they give an estimate for lenses. Outrageous prices. .....2 weeks later I receive a bill. I still owe $101.69. I return to office, ask about bill? They say no insurance, no deductible. They say it is for the doctor to tell me my eye refraction diagnosis. I did not want or ask for that.I paid the $101.69, and vowed to let as many people know how they do business as possible.They are modern day carpetbaggers.. You have been warned! And if you are thinking... maybe miscommunication.... I was very clear with instructions and their replies. read more

I had been seeing a big, multi-site optometrist in the are for over a decade. The doctors were OK, but my biggest problem was getting glasses delivered correctly. My problem is that I have a prescription in the -10 range, and my old optometrist's lab I guess could not handle it. It would generally take about three weeks to get glasses back, and they were NEVER correct the first time. One set even took almost three months to arrive correctly. I have now received three pairs of glasses from Dr. Ruckman. They have all been correct the first time, and all took on average 6 business days to arrive. read more
