Her staff is to be commended as they truly represent the doctors well. Hannah, who assisted with my most recent visit, listened and thought about her responses before she gave them. She explained the different exams that were going to occur and she gave me immediate results, which I appreciated. It turns out I can still see. Dr. Brewer arrived in the room with a burst of energy. She asked about how I was doing, cared about how I was doing, and then we began their exam. Like Hannah, Dr. Brewer told me what was happening. The whole time was patient as I asked silly questions and I came away with the opinion that she really did care. So, I guess you could go to the mall. But I don't think you'd get the quality care you get here.

I do remember the last full evaluation was done at the UC Berkeley Optometry clinic and that it was a long appointment. I've carried vision insurance for years, of which Gayle has used. But for some reason I didn't place this kind of health-related care at the same level as dental or medical. A high school friend, who is also a retired optometrist, convinced me to go, if only to confirm that I didn't have any glaucoma, macular degeneration, or cataract issues. Gayle has used Valley Care and has been very happy with Dr. Brewer. So to push me along, she made that appointment for me. The only "bad" news from the appointment was that my dependence on reading glasses wasn't really enough and that I needed progressives. The good news is that my vision didn't need that much adjustment and my eye health was A-OK. What a relief! The professionals at Valley Eyecare know their business well, and I felt that I was in good hands. That included Dr. Brewer's friendly and efficient manner, and the staff that supported her work. Later on, Gayle and I stopped by to pick up the glasses we picked out, that were largely covered by insurance. The fittings went well, and all I have to do know is get used to the progressives. Maybe I'll add some prescription computer glasses later, to compliment my screen time.

I spent two hours going through tests that at the time felt off but since they were taking the time I assumed everything was okay. They had the worst selection of glasses and I really wanted to go with them because I wanted to support the business. WISH I HADN'T. They charged me over $300 for my office visit and they got my prescription 100% WRONG. I now have a pair of $600 glasses that are completely useless. They then forgot to schedule my appointment for a fitting in their system which they had confirmed on the phone with me and then treated me AWFUL when I went in for the fitting. How can families afford an office visit like this and not even get an accurate prescription?! I was so mad with how I was treated and what they gave me that I went to Vision Works in the mall for a second opinion. The front desk staff at Vision Works were beyond amazing, the optometrist listened to me and within twenty minutes had my prescription perfect. Vision Works only charged me $95 dollars.

Frannie assisted with the selection and she was very nice. She provided me with a register receipt for the glasses and told me that I would receive a detailed receipt when I picked the glasses up, however I did not receive a detailed receipt - not at the time of pick-up, not mailed or emailed. When I received the text that I needed to call and make an appointment for pick-up, I did just that and I was told to just come by, that I didn't need an appointment. I asked if I would get a fitting if I just dropped by and I was told that I would. I live in south Gardnerville, traveling to north Carson City, so I wanted to be sure the 40 minute trip wasn't a bust. I called ahead the day I was going to pick up my glasses and was told again to just come by and I was given the time they go to lunch so I wouldn't come by while they were at lunch. When I arrived, there was another gentleman picking up his glasses. When he got his he commented that "they just hand them to you and say have a nice day". I didn't fully understand what he was saying until it was my turn. The very nice employee at the front desk brought out my eyeglasses and I asked if someone needs to check them on me to be sure everything is right - how the progressive lens lines up - if the nose guards fit correctly for long wear, etc. She said it wasn't necessary. The glasses I selected are frameless (as in NO FRAME - just the side arms) with a progressive lens and they cost more than $900. I received a 30% discount because I am a patient of Dr. Seljestad, which sounds wonderful, but the glasses still cost over $600. The problem I have is that I didn't get a detailed receipt or a fitting or the courtesy of a follow-up call to see how the glasses are working out. I'm definitely going back to Costco the next time I need eyeglasses - they have affordable pricing and they include excellent customer service with your purchase.

I told her I was down the street and she made me feel like they are gonna let me be seen only because I was close, or else I wouldn't be seen. I don't understand why she had to call me right at 8:30AM telling me my appointment is at 8:30AM when in fact it was 8:45AM. I'm attaching a screen capture of my voicemail confirming it was 8:45AM and a screen capture of her phone call to me to prove when this harassment started. When I entered the waiting room a woman was arguing with Shannon from the front office. During this I stepped a side to wait to check-in. Then when I checked in with Vanessa, Shannon took it upon herself to be unprofessional and be rude to me even though I was not even talking to her. She said I'll no longer be treated with you for dry eye. I asked is there any other place I can go to be as this was the second time for this to happen to me. Shannon's response was in a raised voice and rude. She told me, "We live in a desert! So of course you are going to have dry eye. Dry eye is treated over the counter you don't need to see a doctor for it!" Isn't that medical advice? She is not a medical provider so she should not be giving medical advice. Also, if treatments OTC worked why do I have to see a medical provider for my dry eye? Shannon's behavior was uncalled for and unprofessional. She made the front office experience extremely unwelcoming.

This was my first visit to an ophthalmologist outside of Kaiser. First, I called in January for the appointment and the soonest one available was late May. Then, I arrive 15 minutes early as I always do, after doing the online check in process that was supposed to make the process quicker when I arrived. They asked me the same questions (at the counter where others could hear...I don't like that at all) that I'd answered online. I waited in the waiting room about 10 minutes so not too bad. It was the additional 30-40 minutes in the room that upset me. The doctor was great though. She was thorough and explained everything. I just didn't expect an ophthalmology appointment to last 2 hours. I ended up having to take the rest of the day off and I hadn't planned to do so.
