East West Junction is a mystery within an enigma. Is it a full on Asian market, a Restaurant or a family take out food stop. It's all. I'll focus on the buffet. I first learned of this pretty much off the main grid local emporium from a cab driver to whom I had complained about the downhill spiral and perceived scarcity of good Indian buffets in Sacramento. The day he tipped me off I was there and I have been going back ever since. The buffet is very simple. There will be about 5 main dishes to choose from and rice. Some limited side dishes and desert are also available. The Naan is cooked to order and made fresh for each individual customer. It's always hot! The hallmark of East West Junction is quality. When I first went to EastWest Junction, it was when my husband wanted to go shopping for he is a Muslim Cuban who goes by halal eating. We ended ordering dinner in the restaurant since it's connected to the store. First experience was good and the other times we went to eat. But we took a couple months of just to save money. But craving came and we chose to go to EastWest Junction again. But let me say it was all changed to new cook and waiter. Biggest mistake to choose and return back cuz when we arrived, we ordered and while waiting for our food. The waiter/cashier was a filthy, grose Arabic man who not once washed his hands after touching money, register and everything around him and to top the topper he was picking his nose and not yet washed his hands. We went to this place many times before but usually tried their burgers or naan kababs, recently we've tried their Pakistani dishes like rice and curries and let me just say it was a huge disappointment. During the pandemic, they understandably reduced their food offerings and eliminated the buffet, but a temporary adjustment has turned into a full-time disappointment. Chicken and kabobs are dry. Overall, the food is pretty inconsistent (sometimes it's okay but other times it's very bad). They also scam you with takeout. Ordered karaihi to go and was given chicken drenched in oil. Super gross! If you tell the chef that there is something wrong with the food he tries to justify his cooking skills by claiming that it's fine. I had to repeat to the cashier imbecile over 5-6 times what I wanted and the idiot kept saying Chicken Masala when I clearly said Butter chicken. 45-50 min forward and my food wasn't ready yet but the other few customers seating at the table got their food. To me they seemed a little racist so if you're not one of them or looking like them you should expect some starings. At 2:50 I walked to the cashier and demanded my money back. I saw someone eating a burger from here so I decided to give it a shot due to the size of the burger...boy did I make a mistake. The burger bun was stale, the meat was dry and over spiced! It costed me $20 for two burgers and two potato wedges and wow I don't mind overpaying but the food should be good. This was a horrible experience and the food was so disgusting I tried to give it to my dog but she wouldn't go near it! The potato wedges were also baked to the point of no return and were so hard. The problem is the average client that eats here is a demanding pakistani pudoo who thinks they are eating and ordering back in the homeland. The chefs and employees are equally symbiotic to this savage behavior and cater to these scumbags, who for sure do not tip at all. It is the most odd cultural experience. And frankly embarrassing. The place is disgusting with unkempt tables and plastic utensils. It is kind of like eating at a failed restaurant on a side of a dirt road. Except this is indoors, and an actual restaurant. I dont know how this place passes any health inspection. The food is stale. The tikka masala had 2 pieces of chicken in it. The chef offered to add moree, but in the 30 minutes I was there no one did a damn thing. There was a decent lookking white lady in and all the employees were on her nuts catering to her. Disclaimer: This restaurant is attached to a cool looking food store with unique, imported foods, but this review only pertains to the restaurant. For lunch, they have a very simple buffet. There are about 5 entrees, salad, and rice. The rice was clumped together and crunchy, so that was not too appetizing. The lentil and goat was cooked well, but had little flavor. It was spicy enough, but other than "spicy," there was lack of taste. The eggplant dish was very much like a sludge. Perhaps these items were cooked three hours ago, and had been sitting around since then. The chicken curry, to be fair, was quite tasty, and to feel like a buffet, I ate a huge second portion. Always wanted to try this place out and finally got the chance today. First off the people were awesome, the food was delicious, and it had like a inside community family feel to it. Some grows I would say is that I noticed the table was not cleaned up after probably because of the short staff and the naan bread is ok compared to other naan breads I have. Lets start with the sauce it wasn't runny or too thick, it was just perfect. The chicken pieces were bite size and they were made out of white chicken meat. The chicken tasted like it was char grilled before it was simmer and soaked inside the masala sauce. The sauce was so flavorful i was savoring each bite. I can totally taste the herbs that are used inside, even lifting up the lid the aroma went everywhere and smelled up the little area i was in. The best part of this market is the fresh food that they make-- which is, in all honesty, really good. Be sure to try their Naan Kabab and fries. My only criticism of this store is the overall organization and clustered nature of their supplies with often misplaced price tags. After looking over their menu, I ordered the #1, to-go which included Chicken Kabob with basmati rice, salad, naan and channa! I was surprised all this food was only 8.99. We order the chicken tiki Marsala combo plate and spicy lamb curry with naan to eat inside. The chicken Marsala was savory creamy but a tab too sweet for my taste. The rice was fragrant and buttery good. The spicy lamb curry was delicious, it have heat and very flavorful. The lamb was soft and spices wasn't to strong but just perfect on point. The naan was also very delicious. It was fresh soft in the inside and crispy on the outside. We had so much rice didn't know where the extra bowl of rice came from lol. My hubby made a joke comment "maybe Bc we're Asian" Lol. The amount of foods we got for the price was definitely worth it. We didn't finish them so it packed 3 Togo plate home. You can check the county website for all the inspection reports anyway. Un-freaking-believably GOOD!!!!!!!!! The moment you step into the restaurant, the intoxicating scent of grilled marinated meats hits you, and BAM, you know you're in the right place! There was a good selection of set meals that include rice, naan and daal to go with your choice of meat (kebobs, curry, tandoori, etc) or vegetarian curry. I ordered the tandoori chicken and it was nicely marinated but the best part of the meal was the RICE!!! It's incredibly different from the typical basmati rice you get in other Indian restaurants, they add other herbs and spices in it too so there's this beautiful flavor to it. My friend ordered goat curry (yes they have goat meat!) and she really enjoyed it too. We shared the samosas. It's filled with sweet potato and it was SO good!!! I didn't think I would like it as much as the regular samosas but I loved it! There's an adjoining grocery store and they sell all kinds of Middle Eastern groceries but it closed before we finished our dinner (it closes at 7 on Friday nights). Even now, I can still taste my last meal here and would probably pay double to have it again for dinner tonight. I can't count the number of times I have been here, the number of times I have referred friends here, or the number of atherosclerotic plaques that are now eating away at my arteries after consuming my own body weight in the GLORIOUS tasting meat here, but I do know one thing for sure-- God bless the people who run this joint because I have never had better Pakistani food anywhere else. (My mom's kitchen is the sole exception, but hey, she ain't on Yelp!) It's a shack type of joint, but do not judge this place until you have finished every last bite of your meal.
