He said that you could drive a truck through this infection whole i her jaw. Within days after her first root canal procedure, she was in level 8-10 pain 24 hours a day. Dr. Bagchandani does not believe in giving antibiotics or steroids unnecessarily and thought my daughter did not need them. He would not see my daughter over the weekend in unbearable pain and reluctantly gave her the one antibiotic and then switched it. Her jaw locked up. No amount or combination of painkillers could help her. Her pain was so pain she was throwing up the medications and this dentist was reluctant to give her Zophran. Her jaw locked up. This scenario went on for several visits for almost a month. Dr Bagchandani said that he didn't know how to help her but would not refer us to another doctor and didn't recommend the ER. The final straw was when he did not call us back at 4am when my daughter could not stand the pain any longer and we could not figure out how to find the correct entrance for the MCV ER. We called another dentist that night and he called back in 5 minutes and told us to come in immediately. The infection exploded in her mouth on our way. The new dentist was been able to solve the problem immediately and identify the problem. I'm sure Dr. Bhagchandani has done successful root canals on other people, but he told us many times that HE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO, yet would never refer us for any help. I would avoid this dentist at all costs. Negligent, dangerous.

The lovely ladies at the front desk always greet me with a smile and are always accommodating when it comes to those pesky insurance questions. Over the last twenty-plus years I've seen several hygienists and have no complaints about any of them. All were/are good about insuring my comfort level during my routine cleanings and explaining the next steps rather than just barking, "Open. Close. Open. Close." I did have two minor surgeries with Indrani as my Dental Assistant. There aren't enough words to express what a beautiful, caring person she is and how she made sure I knew everything the dentist was going to do. Speaking of dentists, Dr. Haueis and Dr. C are both tier one doctors and people. Their energy is reflected in the vibe throughout the office. I was scheduled for a procedure with Dr. Haueis and the timing would help me use up my FSA funds. Unfortunately, he was called out of the office for a personal emergency and my appointment had to be cancelled. When the staff realized my circumstances, Dr. C fit me in the same day and I didn't lose my funds. This was the epitome of caring for the patient. I would have no qualms about recommending these fine folks to anyone, even if it meant I had to wait a little longer for an appointment!

After scheduling an appointment with your office, I was told I would receive an estimate by email within a few days. After waiting about a month without receiving anything, I called three days prior to my scheduled appointment to request the cost, since no estimate had been sent. During that call, I was given a price verbally and was told I would receive confirmation two days prior to my appointment. I also specifically requested that the estimate be emailed to me. Shortly after that call, I received an emailed estimate that was approximately double the price I had just been quoted over the phone. This inconsistency was very concerning and has caused me to question the transparency and reliability of the pricing information I was given. Do you want to feel like a number? Cattle in a cattle drive? Look no further than Commonwealth. In…read morefact they won't even call to check up on you. No matter how bad it goes. Sound good? RUN! . . I had a re-treatment of an older root canal (from a different state). This should have been easy right? It was infected. The canal that didn't get done was calcified. The doctor, Michael Morris, continued drilling and poking and pushing and pulling for 2 hours guys. A Re-Treatment! No antibiotics were prescribed and as I was walked to the front to pay, I was handed a sheet (pic below) and told Advil is the preferred pain medication. This was my 8th root canal and I can assure you Advil is not the preferred pain medication. About 4 hours later I am howling in pain. I can't stress the howling enough. The Dr is called and he states he should have prescribed an antibiotic... You Think??? I am prescribed a zpack (still no pain meds) and start getting worse. 3 days later I can no longer lay on that side of my face, I have a horrible headache on that side and liquid is coming out that side of my nose. I am also swelling in my mouth. I call CE and they tell me my Dr is closed that day. Come in the next day. I needed help guys so I persisted and they got me an appt at another location. Where I demanded they take an xray and guess what... huge black spot of infection... SHOCKER... I was prescribed a very strong antibiotic and steroids. Within 24 hours I'm almost out of pain and my headache stops. I think finally.... Until I develop a reaction to the strong antibiotics on day 4. By day 5 I have Antibiotic Encephalitis. I can't make this stuff up guys. Did CE, either office, call to check up? Send a just checking text? Email? Nope! I was just a number for their paycheck. If you want care, you will not find it here.

I saw Dr. Robert Grover in 2017 for a long-overdue root canal. I had been informed years earlier…read morethat this particular tooth needed a root canal, but I never went to the trouble or expense of getting it done. Over the years that tooth was sensitive and I had to eat on only one side of my mouth. When we moved to Charlottesville, my new dentist said it only needed to be cleaned out and a large crown put on top. I paid for that procedure (over $1,000) and for a year I regretted it because that tooth was even more sensitive. I was frustrated I had been talked into an expensive crown when I should have gone ahead and done the more serious/in-depth procedure of a root canal. So, in 2017 I scheduled a root canal with Dr. Grover. Dr. Grover is absolutely wonderful, highly skilled, very careful with your comfort, and an all-around joy to have as my endodontist. I did many hours of research when looking for an endodontist. (I was a lawyer for many years; I am accustomed to doing in-depth research to find out what I want to know. When it comes to finding a professional who is going to perform a medical procedure on me, I know there is a BIG difference between people who graduate in the top of their class from good graduate schools, and people who graduate closer to the bottom of their class from poor graduate schools). Dr. Grover has the academic credentials I was looking for AND he is one of the professors at University of Virginia's medical school, both in dentistry courses and endodontist courses. Hey, if he's good enough for a steller university like UVA -- one of the top in the country -- then he's certainly good enough to work on me! He did not put me to sleep which I was very happy about. I was quite numb in my mouth and he used a special microscope the entire time so I really felt he was seeing and treating every little nook and cranny of that bad tooth. Now it has been one year since my root canal and I go back for the free re-check appointment with Dr. Grover next week. The tooth has not bothered me at all and I am very very pleased. Yes, it was certainly an expensive procedure, but honestly it cost me MORE to put it off because I got talked into trying out a $1,000 crown by my former dentist. I learned the hard way: NEVER see a regular dentist for a severe tooth problem -- they are in the business of selling procedures to you! In the end, you'll just have to get the more serious procedure anyway! I strongly, highly, emphatically recommend Dr. Robert Grover in Charlottesville as your endodontist. He is genuinely kind, extremely knowledgeable, and you will be in the best hands when you have your serious procedure done here. And that's good, because he'll be working on you for hours! While I agree (with the other reviewer on Yelp) that it is important to have a front office staff that is very courteous and helpful, it is much much more important to me that the doctor be highly skilled. I recall Dr. Grover's staff to be perfectly fine on the days I was there. These are "ugly" procedures being performed AND they are terribly expensive; could it be that the other reviewer walked into the lobby with a puffy face and mouth full of gauze and was a little gruff with the front office staff? I don't know. But during my experience, the staff was completely normal; not sugar sweet, but certainly not rude.
