Very thankful to have this convenient hardware store. My favorite part is the garden center outside. Veggies, annuals, carnivorous plants, houseplants and more. There usually a cute cat wondering around or napping too! The nursery staff are always helpful. The prices are a little higher than other places, but the products are great quality. read more

I've been coming to this true value for 40 years. I've always been satisfied, yet today there was no excuse for the way I was treated and the lack of care that they wasted my time. I needed to get a pair of jumper cables because my wife's car wouldn't start. So one of the owners sends me to an aisle, telling me that's where I could find them, and there were none there. I finally went to the cashier and said either I'm blind or there aren't any jumper cables. She called another assistant who finally went and looked in the backstock and said no, we have none. They made me waste about 15 minutes looking for something that could've been handled in three minutes and on top of it why doesn't a store that has just expanded to three times a size have enough jumper cables on hand to satisfy the public. Then I tried to complain to the woman at the front counter for the way I was treated and she just replied "sir, sir" as if I was the one who was making the error. I said, "I have the right to vent", you guys are the only game in town and not having a pair of jumper cables when you need ithem makes things very difficult. After years of giving these people service, I'm done. They don't deserve my business. read more

The guys that work here are awesome. You can't walk in the front door without someone asking "Can I help you?". Once you tell them what you're there for they walk you to the appropriate aisle and help you locate the particular item. Example: One day I walked in five minutes before closing time looking for a part for a faucet. The clerk asked me one question and after I answered said, "That's not the part you need, let me show you what you need." He then explained the entire repair to me....all of this for a $3 part. read more

I was walking past and saw a sign beckoning me to check out their baby chicks....it pulled me in like a chick magnet. The hardware store is located right downtown, and it was my first stop in my exploration of downtown. The chick-a-dees were uber cute in their fluffy chirping yellow glory. Oh, how I wanted to hold one....somehow I restrained...or maybe I restrained because their habitat had a secure top on it and I did not want to get bounced out of True Value. Other than the adorable baby animals, they had other items that really sets them apart from your average hardware...like stone Buddah's for your garden, live orchids and other live plants. I'm not really a power-tools kind of girl, but it's surprising how many times I pop in here. I've stopped by to have a spare key made, to look at paint samples, to buy a couple nails for a DIY project, and to pick up a hanging plant, among other things. what a wonderful place, tucked in next to the vegetable bin and right next to the harris teeter. This place has everything and if it doesn't, they can probably order it. The senior staff has been there for decades and can help you out with any project. I especially love the seasonal displays and vintage jewelry and clothes for sale in the front. this place feels like a real general store. read more

I am so totally comfortable in this small hardware store. There is another family owned ( I believe ) lumber/hardware store further up the peninsula that always does that so familiar/subltle/hostile/condescending 'this place is for guys' thing when I go in. But never at East Bay True Value. I love that the woman there puts the pretty things she loves right out there with the pipe wrenches and WD40. Last time I was there I bought a saw blade, spackle, anchor bolts and an adorable mulit-colored scarf that's perfect for parties. This is a great place. Never die East Bay Hardware.
