    Midnight

We adopted our first rabbit Midnight from them almost exactly a year ago. When we went to EBRR we barely knew anything about house rabbits. The education we received from Joan and her volunteer team is top notch. We thought we could keep our rabbit outdoors, but she told about all the dangers of having a rabbit outdoors in the Bay Area, raccoons, feral cats, mites, flystrike! She educated us on xpen living which is so much better than having a hutch. She set us up with a list of the best vets in the Bay Area, which we now go to Chabot Vet on her recommendation. Educated on Gi-Stasis and especially the importance of Spay/Neuter for health and behavior. Midnight is a happy house rabbit and we love him so much!

I can't say enough great things about East Bay Rabbit Rescue, Joan, and Elizabeth (who helped to bond my bunny trio). I visited this rescue twice in order to find a 3rd bunny for my bonded pair, and almost adopted a different bunny the first time. I had even filled out the paperwork, and when I got cold feet, Joan was incredibly understanding and made me feel good about following my intuition. A few months later, I emailed again after seeing a photo of Bebe (now Willa) posted on their website, which they regularly update with photos of adoptable rabbits. We went to visit her at one of their regular adoption events, and I knew right away that she was the one for us! Willa has been the best addition to our little family, and East Bay Rabbit Rescue was there to assist with bonding, and checked in to make sure that she was doing well. They genuinely care about their rabbits and make sure that they go to great homes. I cannot recommend them enough, and would love to adopt from them again someday!

We adopted RiffRaff and the whole process was amazing. Everyone with Rabbit Rescue is super knowledgeable about rabbits and gave us tons of info and support. Highly recommend going to their adoption events and bringing one of these precious bunnies into your home.

I have adopted four rabbits from East Bay Rabbit Rescue and the rescue team has been wonderful. As a new bunny owner four years ago, they taught me everything I needed to know to properly take care of my bunnies and have always been available for advice and support. Their volunteers are very knowledgeable and carefully screen adopters to make sure the rabbits are going to a good home, where they will be loved and treated as part of the family. Rabbits are not low-maintenance animals, and this is something the volunteers want to make sure people understand. They're frail prey animals that need special care. For bunnies to pair up, they need to "date" and be slowly introduced to each other. While there will always be exceptions to the rule, rabbits are likely to get along best in male-female pairs - any rabbit-savvy vet will tell you the same. I don't mean to preach to others who may have a negative opinion about the organization. However, I think it fair that those of us who understand animal rescue and the hard work entails - run by dedicated volunteers who do not make a dime for their labor of love - shed light on the intricacies involved in bunny rescue in order to understand the fantastic job this rescue group had done and continues to do.

Disclosure: I learned Bunnies are prey animals, though cute and soft, they can be high-maintenance and require patience, clean water, food, brushing and love everyday. #AdoptABunny Our bunny story began when I walked into Dublin Petsmart and saw EBRR setting up for their adoption. I saw a sweet bunny named Jameson, who I immediately fell in love with. I called my husband and he came over to see him. The volunteers spent over an hour with us as we got to sit in the pen with Jameson to see if he liked us as much as we liked him. After making the decision to adopt Jameson, the volunteers sat us down to fill out the paperwork and explain bunny care This is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT Unfortunately, Jameson wasn't with us for too long, because he fell ill with a sickness, according to the vet he most likely he was born with, and went to bunny heaven. I messaged Joan about our sudden loss and she was so understanding. She offered to help us with another adoption if we found a bunny we were interested in. Because of Jameson's sudden death we were heartbroken and Joan understood we were apprehensive about adopting another bunnThat didn't stop her though, Joan was amazing! She never gave up hope and a month or so later, she introduced us to Julio, a baby lion head lop mix. He was a tiny, goofy looking bunny and once again we were awestruck. We met with Joan at an adoption event and sat with Julio for over an hour. My friend, who is a bunny Mom, even came to show support! Joan waived our adoption fees and we were home bound with baby Julio! We setup Julio's nursery and he was such a sweet addition to our family! A few months later, I noticed Julio began sneezing. I took him to Ohana Vet in Livermore and he was given antibiotics. A few weeks later, I took him to his neutering appointment and a couple hours later was told they couldn't do the procedure because he had a terrible lung infection! I got a message from Joan, who said she was already in touch with Ohana Vet and EBRR was going to pay for Julio's culture tests! I was so thankful! Long story, mot-so-short, Joan and EBRR have been amazing with our bunny life journey. Julio is doing well now and we're madly in love with him. Every bunny case/story is different, ours has been a rollercoaster, but EBRR, Joan, and the volunteers make the experience worthwhile.

Tiger Everlily recovering nicely thanks to EBRR!

Ask the Community - East Bay Rabbit Rescue

Can a person bring in a rabbit they can no longer keep?

We help the public when we can. We rarely have space to take a rabbit into our foster care, instead we work with the public to help them safely re-home their pet.

VHS goes to local county shelters and saves well-behaved cats and dogs that are about to be euthanized because of overcrowding. They have a medical clinic onsite that does a wellness check, and then their 200+ volunteer army steps in to foster and care for these cats and dogs, while permanent homes can be found. Our tour focused on the cat side of VHS. First we checked out the youngest kittens, which are kept in separate rooms, followed by Kitty City, which houses the remaining cats onsite (the rest are in foster homes). We met all the Catizens of Kitty City, including Mayor Big Bird, who has since been adopted, and several others with interesting personalities and histories, like Donna, Dealership, and Zombie (my favorite!). The animals are lovingly cared for, and the operations at VHS are well-organized (e.g. laundry area, kitchen and break rooms, etc.). Kitty City also includes an outdoor play area for cats, affectionately called "The Catio" !! Thank you, Valley Humane Society, for all that you do for our community.

I wanted an adult dog to add with our little mutt dog. We've had him for a total of 6 days now. Hands-down this dog is amazing. He's a great example of why you'd want to adopt an adult dog as he's slid right into our family - exceptionally housebroken (learned the sliding glass door immediately), got right in the car & road (continues to do so as he just sits upright or down -no fuss), easy on the leash when walking, doesn't bolt to take off after anything so far, gentle mouth when taking treats, understands no & wants to please, so far no separation anxiety at all, and gets along with my older kids & little dog and knows his basic commands (sit, wait, etc). He's easier than the puppies I've had. He's naturally adjusting in that he has low growled when we hugged to long or he couldn't see - that's normal as he's learning to trust us or at my little dog when she first got too close. But its looking like he's adjusting to her better as she accidentally rolled off the couch on to him as he was sitting below at my feet. She landed on him-he just got up, no growling or anything, more like what happened as he just got up and sat. His anxiety came at night when he threw up bubbles twice but no more now. I appreciated TVAR's relaxed approach in the process when we wanted to meet. I've had a rescue want me to meet on a weekday in the SF avenues to meet the dog as they were in a hurry. For me to get over there with my family to meet meant after school so essentially I wouldn't get back till after 8 PM. We didn't do that but the expectation was too hard and didn't seem practical as we'd be rushing. TVAR was great as they just said meet at the Petfair happening at the Farmer's Market. This worked perfect as we were able to meet in an atmosphere that was us as well as see how Stuart was amongst lots of people and dogs. We were able to take the time to discuss Stuart with his foster Mommy as well as with the TVAR rep. If you ever want to consider an adult dog, I would given Stuart is a textbook fabulous dog. I appreciate the fact that TVAR took the time to save his life so we could find him. We never would have without them. Plus their description was dead-on the money - they weren't overselling him, they actually undersold him given how great he's been so far. Kudos to TVAR.

But I could not stop thinking about this cat so I made arrangements to pick him up on a Monday on my return from San Jose to Folsom. The foster house (Risha / Larissa) met me. I was so disgusted by this house that I almost changed my mind. The outside was so dirty and had six or eight feral cats on her porch and in her driveway. They were cat crates and other things strewn all over the place. The outside reeked of cat urine. I was afraid to go inside but stepped in to pet the cat that I was interested in. The house was so filthy, cluttered, and in total disarray, and it also reeks of urine. At this point I decided to get the cat simply to get him out of that situation if nothing else. She did not have any of his paperwork ready, although he was supposedly at an adoption event the day before so you would think that it should be handy. She showed me quickly on her phone but never sent me any of the documentation for this cat, his vaccines, his microchip, or neutering. She gave him a shot of something - who knows what - in the driveway which was appalling. She is not a vet or a vet tech, simply volunteers at a shelter. I don't think she has any other qualifications to be giving vaccines let alone doing it and unsanitary conditions outside. Once I got this cat home I realized he is covered in fleas. I rushed out to buy flea bath and flea protection and have been trying to eradicate them from my home and car for the last 5 days. I demanded a full refund from this agency not only for the adoption but for the flea treatment. This should have been done before he ever left her possession. He also should've had a nail trim but he didn't. The cat also smelled like urine like her disgusting house. I was surprised that they refunded all of my money for the adoption and the flea protection. I am grateful for that because this cat needs to be seen at the vet and make sure he is healthy has been neutered and update his shots because I have no idea what they actually gave him. They tried to make me sign a ridiculous contract six days later after demanding his paperwork. The contract tries to hold the adoptee much more accountable for the health and wellness of a pet that they don't uphold themselves. It also says that if you cannot keep the cat that you need to give it back to them. Over my dead body would I ever give this cat back to that woman. She should not be allowed to have pets. She also should not be allowed to have children but she does! I feel so bad for those kids as well as the pets. East of Eden should be much more responsible with who they associate with and inspect the homes and conditions of their fosters that they are advertising. This situation was infuriating. In the end I have what appears to be a very happy and healthy cat and I am thankful for that and I am sure he is thankful to be out of that situation. Stay away from this agency!
