I got the world's cutest, sweetest cat ‍ here, and it was very easy to do. I live in Oakland, and when I went in to Petfood Express they were acting like I just asked to see Lady Gaga without a bodyguard. I had to wait so long at PE, that I eventually got lunch, came back, and then they told me if I wanted a kitten that I had to take two. The vet bills on two cats! When I came to Valley Humane society, I found the kitten that reached the depths of my soul. She's a year old now, and I love her too much. She's like "Enough with the hugs and kisses!" This is the fourth cat I've had and the best. I brought her back in a week because they forgot to give her a shot or something, and the vet thought I was starving her because she was 2 pounds- she's twelve pounds now, all muscle! The people who foster them and take care of them really like animals. I paid $100 for all the stuff and they send you out with some food and toys. Can't imagine life without this cat.

Adopting Dot (previously named Leila) from VHS. Such a great experience and everything was very safe during Covid times!

Really wonderful staff, great clean facility and Covid safety was taken seriously! I had a short phone call interview in response to my application for this cute terrier mix and we scheduled a meeting for the next day. It was only my father and I and maybe two staff members and we were given an agreement that if we contacted covid or anyone at their facility did within the next two weeks that we would be in touch. Which I think is such a smart idea! We met with the pup outside and we didn't feel rushed at all to make a decision. Even though Leila (now named Dot) had only been at VHS for 9 days they had answers to all my questions and I could tell they definitely had Dot's well being in mind while making sure we knew of any behavioral issues. We got sent home with a goodie bag including treats, a toy, a leash, and a handmade blanket. Really so sweet! Thank you VHS!

An excellent experience. Everyone was nice, helpful and super professional. Especially Emily, our adoption person was great and very easy to work with. The facility is kept clean and all adoptable animals were contained in well lit separate rooms not dark, cold and dirty kennels. Very welcoming and a very positive experience adopting from Valley Humane Society Pleasanton. We adopted a 5 year old female Shih Tzu to add to our family. We already have a 3 year old Shih Tzu Mix and they allowed us to first meet Cleo (renamed Molly) alone then a meet and greet with our dog Finnegan at the final adoption date. On adoption day we were flooded with a ton of important information regarding her surgery (spay) pain medication, vaccination info, microchip, welcome package with coupons, leash and other goodies we didn't expect but was a nice surprise! We would definitely recommend Valley Humane Society Pleasanton if you're looking to adopt a rescue dog or cat.

Thank you so much for helping me adopt such a lovely puppy! Very efficient and easy to adopt a dog!The service of the staff was excellent!

Clean, professional, and friendly. We've visited here while our tires were being rotated over at Big O Tires. We appreciated feeling that we were welcomed visitors, and we donated a little cash before we left. Our 6 year old attended a birthday party there this weekend, she had such a wonderful time. I was impressed with everything that she did and learned in just 2 hours and 30 minutes. We currently don't have a dog or a cat (Fish and Hamster are all I'm committing to so far). Our daughter didn't come home begging for a dog or cat, I was a little concerned that might be an issue. She did come home happy that she learned so much, and thrilled she had the opportunity to interact with cats and a therapy dog. A job well done by all of the staff/volunteers. Thank You!

We just had a birthday party here today for my 6-year old daughter and we were beyond impressed! First, Emily helped us view the facility and talked with us before booking the party. The party is reasonably priced for what you get. The only thing you need to bring is a cake and drinks. They take care of the plates, napkins, silverware, party favors, etc. Amazing! Emily was a teacher and it definitely shows! The party was well-paced, all of the children were engaged, and she is the perfect person for the job! When the children were arriving for the party she had them doing a craft that they got to go and give to the kittens to play with while on their tour. She did a great job explaining how to handle animals, what they need, and how to greet them. The children were very prepared for going behind the scenes to meet the animals. The children toured the facility, played with the kittens and saw the dogs in doggie drive. Emily even scheduled a therapy dog to come and meet the children. The kids got to decorate a special box with either a dog or cat stuffed animal inside. The birthday girl got to ring the bell and when she did, all the children got to open their boxes for their surprise stuffed animal. Each pet had a collar and an adoption certificate. She also let them make a beaded collar for each pet. The kids LOVED this! Emily was so easy to work with. She was flexible and did a fabulous job! Many parents commented about what a great idea the party was, said it was much better than Pump it Up :), and their children had a blast! If you are looking for the perfect party - look no further! You will not be disappointed!

Adopted the most loving and friendly Cocker Spaniel, Cody, from Valley Humane Society! The staff made the adoption process such a positive experience for me and my family. They were knowledgeable, friendly and professional. They even helped us introduce our fearful dog to Cody and made sure they were a good fit before moving forward with the adoption. They really do care about their fur babies. Cody had a full vet check, was microchipped, neutered and vaccinated. They had all of Cody's paperwork ready to go and gave me tips on how to help Cody adjust to his new forever home. I would highly recommend them if you are looking to adopt!

Thank you, Valley Humane Society, for our sweet dog Waggy! The employee we worked with was so friendly, knowledgeable and passionate. We left with plenty of information and a goody bag to get us started. My boys are just so in love with Waggy. Best friends for life!

I left work early after a stressful crazy day to come here. I played with Puddles. He loved the drawstrings on my sweatshirt.

I wanted an adult dog to add with our little mutt dog. We've had him for a total of 6 days now. Hands-down this dog is amazing. He's a great example of why you'd want to adopt an adult dog as he's slid right into our family - exceptionally housebroken (learned the sliding glass door immediately), got right in the car & road (continues to do so as he just sits upright or down -no fuss), easy on the leash when walking, doesn't bolt to take off after anything so far, gentle mouth when taking treats, understands no & wants to please, so far no separation anxiety at all, and gets along with my older kids & little dog and knows his basic commands (sit, wait, etc). He's easier than the puppies I've had. He's naturally adjusting in that he has low growled when we hugged to long or he couldn't see - that's normal as he's learning to trust us or at my little dog when she first got too close. But its looking like he's adjusting to her better as she accidentally rolled off the couch on to him as he was sitting below at my feet. She landed on him-he just got up, no growling or anything, more like what happened as he just got up and sat. His anxiety came at night when he threw up bubbles twice but no more now. I appreciated TVAR's relaxed approach in the process when we wanted to meet. I've had a rescue want me to meet on a weekday in the SF avenues to meet the dog as they were in a hurry. For me to get over there with my family to meet meant after school so essentially I wouldn't get back till after 8 PM. We didn't do that but the expectation was too hard and didn't seem practical as we'd be rushing. TVAR was great as they just said meet at the Petfair happening at the Farmer's Market. This worked perfect as we were able to meet in an atmosphere that was us as well as see how Stuart was amongst lots of people and dogs. We were able to take the time to discuss Stuart with his foster Mommy as well as with the TVAR rep. If you ever want to consider an adult dog, I would given Stuart is a textbook fabulous dog. I appreciate the fact that TVAR took the time to save his life so we could find him. We never would have without them. Plus their description was dead-on the money - they weren't overselling him, they actually undersold him given how great he's been so far. Kudos to TVAR.

Our sweet girl's health declined very suddenly...she couldn't sleep, was struggling to breathe, and her heart was failing. We were faced with the difficult choice of going to a vet clinic or finding an in-home euthanasia service. We found Heaven from Home and reached out to Dr. Wensing. Although she was initially fully booked, she took the time to speak with us and even recommended other in-home services to try. Unfortunately, none had availability, and we were preparing ourselves for a traditional vet visit...something we knew would cause our already fragile girl a lot of anxiety. Then, Dr. Wensing called back. She had a cancellation and could come that same day. It truly felt like a blessing. She arrived with such compassion and calm presence, and because of her, our girl was able to pass peacefully in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by her family. It meant everything to us to give her that kind of goodbye. We could not have asked for a more caring, professional, and humane experience during one of the most heartbreaking moments of our lives. If you are facing a similar situation, I cannot recommend Dr. Wensing and Heaven from Home enough. We are forever grateful for the kindness and dignity she gave our beloved companion in her final moments.

I'm used to medical/veterinary staff being hurried and brusque, but Dr. Wensing was anything but. She's set the bar so stratospherically high here I don't think anyone will ever come close. She responded within a few minutes, was able to come out on a weekend, same day short notice, and offered multiple times to find what would work best. It was important to me that we were able to find a time where everyone could be present. My girls Kaylee and Gabby liked her immediately. She clearly has a gift with animals. She walked us through what the process would be like, answered all of our questions, and made us feel confident that we were doing what was best. She was gentle, calming, and patient, and made sure we knew what was happening every step of the way, giving us as much time as we needed when we needed it. When it was time for her to leave, she left us with the kindest words and warm hugs, as though she were a long-time friend. She clearly has a gift with people, too. On one of my worst days of my life, she brought such compassion, consideration, professionalism, care, warmth, and peace into my home that it seemed superhuman. I don't believe in angels, but if I did, she'd be one of them. Kaylee's sister Gabby is still with us, and I hope she still has a good number of years ahead, but Dr. Wensing will be the first person I call when the time comes. I'm not sure I can give a higher recommendation than that.

Located in Alameda County Fairgrounds, the premise itself is quite big, and parking is plentiful and free, albeit unpaved and rather bumpy. When parking, be sure to make a note of the lot #, located at the front of each lot, in addition to the section letter. We made the mistake of only looking at the section letter and then later realizing that each lot had the same letters. While it may be a bit of a walk from the lot to the actual event itself depending on where you park, they have courtesy shuttles (aka trucks towing trailers with covered seating) that will take you to the event space and then later back to your car. The actual event outside has a TON of different booths hosting different vendors ranging from pet supplies, pet food, to pet photos. And most of them were giving out free samples so we wound up with a big bag full of dog food/treats by the time we left. As Pet Food Express is hosting the event, they give out a free tote bag for you to hold your freebies in as you roam the premise. And many other vendors thankfully also offer free tote bags as well. There are two main indoor buildings, with one side hosting dogs for adoption, and the other side hosting cats. In addition, we also saw many bunnies and even sold birds up for adoption as well. All the animals we encountered were very well socialized, and even the few which had signs warning people not to stick your hand in their cage/crate did not appear aggressive. At one point, my gf fell in love with this one cutie of a puppy that was such a sweetheart! Fortunately (or unfortunately if you ask my gf), she was already adopted. Else I am pretty convinced that we would have probably left there with a new family member. The event is well organized and well spaced out. There are plenty of workers and volunteers around if you have any questions, and despite it being in the mid 90's outside, even the outdoor tents which housed pets had fans and/or mist sprays which kept things cool and comfortable for all animals involved. And to keep dogs from burning their feet on the hot concrete, we saw workers avidly spraying down the ground to keep things cool. Plus water/bath stations were plentiful as well. Overall a really great event that allowed us to interact and play with a variety of different 4-legged friends. Be warned however for the possibility of leaving with a new addition to the family!

But I could not stop thinking about this cat so I made arrangements to pick him up on a Monday on my return from San Jose to Folsom. The foster house (Risha / Larissa) met me. I was so disgusted by this house that I almost changed my mind. The outside was so dirty and had six or eight feral cats on her porch and in her driveway. They were cat crates and other things strewn all over the place. The outside reeked of cat urine. I was afraid to go inside but stepped in to pet the cat that I was interested in. The house was so filthy, cluttered, and in total disarray, and it also reeks of urine. At this point I decided to get the cat simply to get him out of that situation if nothing else. She did not have any of his paperwork ready, although he was supposedly at an adoption event the day before so you would think that it should be handy. She showed me quickly on her phone but never sent me any of the documentation for this cat, his vaccines, his microchip, or neutering. She gave him a shot of something - who knows what - in the driveway which was appalling. She is not a vet or a vet tech, simply volunteers at a shelter. I don't think she has any other qualifications to be giving vaccines let alone doing it and unsanitary conditions outside. Once I got this cat home I realized he is covered in fleas. I rushed out to buy flea bath and flea protection and have been trying to eradicate them from my home and car for the last 5 days. I demanded a full refund from this agency not only for the adoption but for the flea treatment. This should have been done before he ever left her possession. He also should've had a nail trim but he didn't. The cat also smelled like urine like her disgusting house. I was surprised that they refunded all of my money for the adoption and the flea protection. I am grateful for that because this cat needs to be seen at the vet and make sure he is healthy has been neutered and update his shots because I have no idea what they actually gave him. They tried to make me sign a ridiculous contract six days later after demanding his paperwork. The contract tries to hold the adoptee much more accountable for the health and wellness of a pet that they don't uphold themselves. It also says that if you cannot keep the cat that you need to give it back to them. Over my dead body would I ever give this cat back to that woman. She should not be allowed to have pets. She also should not be allowed to have children but she does! I feel so bad for those kids as well as the pets. East of Eden should be much more responsible with who they associate with and inspect the homes and conditions of their fosters that they are advertising. This situation was infuriating. In the end I have what appears to be a very happy and healthy cat and I am thankful for that and I am sure he is thankful to be out of that situation. Stay away from this agency!
