Earthworks is a great landscaping contractor and builder. The owner, Ed, really knows what he is doing. In 2005 Earthworks was recommended by our pool contractor. We described what we wanted and Ed drew up plans and an estimate. He worked with us to lower the budget (we changed a few details). Work was performed in a timely manner. Payments were tied to completions of specific milestones, e.g., demolition, concrete, passing city building inspections, plans in the ground, final. I am an engineer with Bachelors and Masters degrees, and I pride myself on knowing what good engineering work is, how things are built, and will it be easy to maintain, and will it last. I have to say I was really impressed with Earthworks design and build. The concrete patios perfectly drain, like shower pans, even during the heaviest of storms. Putting additional (deeper footings) concrete at the edge of planters to reduce tree root intrusion. The free-standing structure in the first picture on Yelp's page for Earthworks is ours, and it is built not only to last, but to be free from wood rot (the wood columns do not touch the ground - there are steel columns inside of the wood columns). After 8 years, many parties (large and small), we still love our backyard. Easy maintenance and still looks great. Other notes: 1) During construction we requested additional work and I was very pleased the add-on costs were not only reasonable, but very reasonable. 2) They had recommended a lot of landscape lighting, what I thought was excessive, so they reduced the amount of lighting. Well in less than 6 months after they left we added back the lighting ourselves that we had removed from the plan... it was really needed for nighttime parties. 3) We are planning to redo our front yard and Earthworks will be one of the bidding contractors. I read the bad reviews on this page and I am mystified by them. How can this be the same company? Then I think about our next door neighbors and how they are always "messing" with contractors to get something for nothing. Getting into arguments and making the contractor leave before the last 10% of job is finished so they do not have to pay the final (and usually largest payment). There are people like this, I have seen it three times with our next door neighbors. Not good people. read more

I was just checking out Yelp for other stuff, and decided to check our landscaper--I swear, those other comments HAD to come from competitors trying to destroy the reputation of a great business! Actually, makes me sick. So, my husband and I bought a new home. Large lot, all dirt. Had a small child & pups, so moved from our pool home. But, wanted a pretty yard. Ed Radas was so creative...he designed "tryke tracks" around the perimeter for her little car and bicycle! He designed a space for a swingset, AND a playyard with variegated cuts of poles (which she could walk on!) surrounding a padded area, containing her playhouse and slide. I had never seen a backyard like it! For my husband, he designed a beautiful built in grill with storage, a covered deck, and a pergola with plenty of surface below for large picnic tables and easy chairs. It was my dream yard. Ed managed that work to a "T!" It was planted all around with continuously blooming plants and foliage with palm trees interspersed. He had nothing, and I mean nothing to work with, and he made that yard fit for a magazine cover, and a dream for any Mom & kiddo! He also added a spacious side yard for the pups, when necessary, which backed to the garage for shelter. The front yard made the neighbors crazy, it was so pretty. Several neighbors wanted Ed's number, including the Dr across the street. He got lots of business from the job he did on our home. From dirt to such a beautiful property....I always felt like it was designed by someone who would do those dramatic hotel scapes. The earth below the grass areas was perfectly level, so pretty and easy to navigate for little kids. Ed told me he made sure all the plants were kid and pet friendly. He took care of every detail for us, and was always open to our ideas--although I appreciated his ideas much much more. He always gave us choices and ranges in price. There is NO question as to who I would refer, or who I would call for our next home. This guy is ethical, is polite, is honest, is fair, and he really seemed to care! I can't imagine that he would ever perform poorly. It's just NOT in his make-up, and we have now seen his work dozens of times! The people WE know are crazy about his work, too. Ed and his team did a fabulous job working with us to redo all of the landscaping on our property. He made excellent recommendations and met a strict timeline for the work to be completed prior to my Mother visiting. Ed followed up post completion to ensure everything was watering correctly. The patio recommendation with the brick outline has received rave reviews from everyone who has visited. Ed and Team did a great job putting up the iron cast fence that I had purchased from ironfenceshop.com prior to hiring them. They made it work and added value by making suggestions on how grass sod, fruit trees and rose bushes should be laid out on the property. I cannot speak highly enough about them and recommend them for large or small jobs. I will be working with them again next year to finish off lighting up the property. read more

We had a challenging concrete repair job and addition that required expert color and pattern matching to existing, old stamped concrete. Ed was very respectful and a great listener as we laid out our high expectations and concerns about how the end result might look given the multitude of challenges. First, Ed laid out a clear plan for us. Then he and his crew stepped up to the challenge, staining in sections and patterns, approaching it artistically and with a high level of communication. They also did some landscaping work for us and had creative ideas that worked in our budget and timeframe. We recently finished our entire back yard using this company and are very pleased with the quality of the workmanship. Ed was consistently on the job overseeing his team and they were also very diligent, professional and tidy. Backyard Heaven!! We hired Earthworks Landscaping to perform a major remodel of our backyard -- complete with a built-in BBQ, bar, patio cover, planters, irrigation, plants and a spa. We had our hardscape, front and back yard including pool refinished by Earthworks Landscaping Company. The finished product is amazing. We love our backyard.
