In the past 2 years, my hair has undergone a change. It has become much curlier (and grayer) and I was unable to style it with much success. I was unhappy with it and didn't know exactly how to take back control. Then, I won a raffle at a charity event which included a gift certificate to Earthly Roots Hair Studio. I looked it up online and was thrilled to see that the owner had curly hair and specialized in styling it. I was also intrigued by her claim to use only natural products and was educated by her link to safecosmetics.org, which I had recently discovered on my own. I made an appointment via the online appt. calendar for a color & cut and wasn't sure what to expect. I also made a comment when booking the appointment to see if I could get an earlier spot, and Moira called me promptly and moved me up due to a cancellation. So far, so good. When I finally met Moira, I felt instantly relaxed. Her studio has a contemporary feel, but not overly done. She is a warm and friendly person and we chatted about many things. Having been to several salons over the years, I felt that Moira was very knowledgeable and professional, both in her business and the many natural products she carries. I did not feel like she was giving me the "hard sell", as we even discussed some old fashioned hair care items that a person could find in their own pantry. In the past, when I booked a color & cut appointment at other salons, it all went very quickly, as my hair is fairly short and fine. Moira booked me a 2 hour slot and I was thinking that I would be out of there much sooner. On the contrary, Moira took the full 2 hours with me and very carefully listened to what I wanted for color. She customized a beautiful rich brown color for me that did not get brassy over time, like every other coloring I have ever had. Instead, it had some gold highlights that started to peek through after some time in the summer sun. I really loved that and was impressed that she was able to nail it. She also took her time with my haircut, cutting it both wet and dry, until it was perfect. I truly felt like I was being given a quality cut, even though it cost no more than ones I had gotten previously that were over in 10 minutes. We also discussed styling products and she recommended a natural product that I have been using ever since. It was reasonably priced and works really well. When it's finished, I will definitely purchase another bottle. She has a full line of natural products, some of which are even produced locally, which I think is great. As a matter of fact, she just sent out an email about a product sale this week, which I will probably check out. This is actually the 1st email I have gotten from her, which is appreciated because I don't want to be inundated by email, which has happened with other shops. Overall, I have to say I am impressed with Moira's business savvy and artistic talent, not to mention her respect for the environment. It all adds up to something good for her clientele and I'm happy to patronize a business like this one. read more
