Last week, I walked in especially needy. Once I made it to the dressing room, where I had waaaay too many asks (sizes, special order items not in stock, etc.) and spent waaaay too much time. And once I was finally finished, headed to check out--after the store had officially closed, no less!--remembering: "Shoot! I forgot I needed to return these 2 items I originally came in with--oh, and can you apply that to store credit instead of original payment method?"--(they did.) I worked in retail for years and was well aware of the level of nightmare customer I was presenting. The manager & her co-worker, Gemma & Caroline treated my special order struggles like a personal mission -- and then straight-up stayed open past close just to make sure I got it right. No "we close in five minutes" death stare, no clock-watching, just genuine "we've got you" energy the whole time. This Anthro store -- with Gemma & Caroline at the helm -- gave me the patience, expertise, and kind of customer service--full send--like it was no big deal? When I went back in with her to talk to a sales person about it, she was incredibly rude and unhelpful. Ordered an item that I needed within five days, paid an extra $25 for 2-day shipping fee, only to be updated by UPS that the item wouldn't arrive for nine days. Three calls to Athleta customer service where they totally blamed it on UPS. Called UPS who confirmed that Athleta never assigned the item as expedited shipping. UPS is not paid by Athleta until the product arrives, so they could not change the order status. Call back to Athleta who responded with nothing more than "so sorry." Off to Nordstrom's, or perhaps even Lululemon. Never again Athleta!!!

Very rarely does something fit me here and when I do find something that looks good and is a good value because it is on sale, it often does not hold up well. Or certainly not as well as I would like. Often, sweaters shed or pill and other items look tired too soon, no matter how much care I take. And in this store, I find that the full price is too much for the quality of the product. There are stores I gladly pay a higher, full price since my size is often gone before they hit clearance and the quality of the item is really worth it. I did buy something on this last visit that I am hoping will serve me well. It fit well and was the sort of skirt I have been looking for all year. And it was a 40% off all merchandise day. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and the store is attractive and the dressing rooms always clean. Those are all wins in my life.

Though many wonderful longtime shops were lost in recent years as a result of the pandemic, some of the spaces are being filled. The eclectic mix of gift items, practical and decorative was nice to see here. Our guests found some mementos of their trip and I found a specific type of cloth dinner napkin I had been looking for recently. Soft, thin and flexible, all cotton and subtle patterns and colors to go with nearly everything. A set of 4, coordinated but not identical. So nice, I bought two sets as we often have 5 or 6 seated when we have guests. They were not inexpensive, but not exorbitant either.
