The ratio of acai base to toppings was about 1:1, so with every bite you're enjoying a solid mixture. Love that about this spot. Decided to stop by here after a morning workout at soul cycle (yes, I know this sentence screams "BASIC") Anyway the açaí bowl was delightful! I got the Super Berry for ~$11 which sounds expensive but is actually pretty standard for açaí bowls. I'm not sure of any other place in Berkeley that has acais so ill definitely be coming back. I've been here a few times with my mom but I never get anything because I never know what to order. But today... was the day! I wasn't familiar with some of the ingredients but I got that it was an extremely healthy yogurt bowl. I'm going vegan so I was super excited that it was made with coconut yogurt. They were making some fresh acai when we walked in around 10:30am and the fruit was crisp and tasty! I got the dragon base with protein toppings and it was bomb (really good). Its not as sweet as I would've liked but a little extra honey would've done the trick! Towards the end it was more yogurt than toppings so next time ill ask for extra, has to have to have texture! I came here the other day after walking around the shops, I ordered my smoothie (wasn't even good) and asked them if I could use your their restroom. The lady there said no they don't have a restroom.... I've been here so many times and every time they give me keys to the restroom..... mind you I'm 9 months pregnant and I'm already having a hard time. Got their golden toast, acai superberry bowl and chocolate bliss ball via doordash. First, i love that they stapled the paper bag for extra security, so that nothing spills or gets in/out after they package for delivery. *Golden toast was really good and satisfying. It's avocado, tumeric hummus, microgreens, pickled onions on a thick round-ish piece of bread. Bread is not that big, but it is thick and they did not skimp on the toppings - good thick layer of avo and hummus. My only tiny complaint: bread is not toasted, so it's more like golden bread not golden toast. *Bliss ball was so good. I got the chocolate one and it's super creamy and soft and perfectly sweet, not as sweet as i expected (less sweet than a medjool date by itself). It is pretty small - size of a small donut hole. So for the size, it's pricey at $2.88 on doordash (idk if its cheaper if i went in person?). It is rly good, so i would still get this again when i feel splurge-y. *Acai superberry bowl is good, but i've had better (even the one they used to have at costco food court is actually better imo, but thats just personal preference). It doesn't help that my doordash took a detour, so everything melted on the way over and the granola wasn't crunchy bc it soaked up all the melted acai. So thats my bad for ordering on doordash instead of going in person. I will say though that i really loved how they filled up a third of the bowl with strawberries, banana slices, blueberries, coconut flakes. Also the acai itself is not sweet, but you can taste that they added some honey somewhere in the bowl (maybe the granola?). So it is still mildly sweet and definitely not bad. The bowl is also huge. Been getting this for breakfast lately. I wish they would be more consistent with offering their bagel on Doordash as i like that. We get the parfait, oatmeal, and bagel. Waffles are really dry. I order the toasts sometimes but they're not great IMHO. The coffee drinks are not things we will order again. We are not huge smoothie people but I would like to try some and report back on those. The coffee drink was tepid and watery. The soup, while decent flavor, was tepid and anemic-very few corn kernels/veggie dice and broth. That's it. This is a very tasty place with great quality food. I have spent about $150 in just 3 trips here for me and one other individual, it is pricey for small portions. My reason for writing this review is that I allowed myself to come 3 times to see if my experience may get better and it hasn't. To be in a high vibrational food setting yet experience low vibrations from the customer service and employees is off to say the least. Each time has been new workers yet every single one of them had very low non smiley, unwelcoming, distant, sad, non enthusiastic energies. Everywhere I've gone in the Bay Area my month here has been very energetic and happy but the highest vibrational food setting I come to is the lowest and most unwelcoming. I don't know what's causing this so I am writing this view so you may take it how you want and I pray that is to see what is causing this and help curate and environment that is more welcoming, especially when we are spending so much money on such high vibrational nourishment. I love you. My 2 cents is eat less butter, fats, and complex carbs, while eating more light fruit. It's what changed my life to be vibrating at higher frequencies ALWAYS, ALL WAYS. I usually make my smoothies & acai bowls at home since they can be quite pricey but from time to time I'll come by here and treat myself. The menu here is really extensive so I can only comment on the smoothies and the acai bowls. You can't really go wrong with either! Their acai bowls are fairly standard and come with a good amount of toppings and you can taste the quality of their ingredients. My favorite smoothie is the Epic Greens! I've tried recreating it at home and it's really not the same so I always love getting it here. I've tried a few of their juices and they're all pretty similar to other juice spots I've hit up, but there was this one seasonal drink (Ugly & Awesome) that had bok choy & strawberry in it that was delish! Perfect blend of sweet and tart. Service is pretty hit or miss here. Most of the time the staff is really friendly and look happy to be there but my most recent experience was pretty so-so. The last time I came (last Monday night), two girls ahead of me ordered the same drink as me so the employee working went ahead and made a big batch. She filled the two orders ahead of me to the top, and mines 80% the way full. Looking back, I should have said something, but the attitude that was coming off of he when it was obvious I wasn't given a full drink when made it seem like it wouldn't be worth trying to bring it up. Also service can be slooooow since there are only 3 people working at a time. One time I drove from Lake Merritt to this place just to get an acai bowl and their waffle. I could have gone to a place on Lakeshore that's pretty well known but I didn't want my name to be yelled at me by some bro in a backward hat. Project Juice is consistent, delicious, and from my experience not too busy at this location. I just get the good old-fashioned acai bowl with classic toppings but add some almond butter on top. The texture of the acai is one of the reasons I like it so much; a good balance of icy and smoooooth. Another reason I like this place is that they don't over-sweeten their acai bowls. Don't get me wrong; I'm not some super health freak, I don't yoga nor am I vegan. I just want my healthy food to be healthy and not laden with other crap when I'm trying to be better about my food choices. If you're on the fence about the waffles, just do it. Of course, it's not going to be like a "real" waffle but that's the point! So don't be a jackass and expect something you're obviously not going to get. The Berries & Cream waffle is so good and the price is decent. While I do wish it was bigger it's only because I just want to eat more of it. Ever since coming up here, I've been on a mission to find the best in Berkeley, and so far, Project Juice is winning What I've had: - Almond butter açaí bowl ($11.45): This is made with house-made almond mylk, almond butter, pure unsweetened açaí, blueberry, and banana. I normally go for the protein topping (GF superfood granola, banana, seasonal berries, cashes, cacao nibs, hemp seeds, local honey drizzle). The bowl kinda has a creamy taste, which I'm a huge fan of!! The almond butter really brings it together. I love this bowl so much that I have yet to try the pitaya here because I always order the almond butter açaí (and I usually get pitaya over açaí anywhere!!). ALSO THE HONEY. The honey they drizzle on top of the granola is AMAAAZING! AND AHHH THE GRANOLA. I think this is my new favorite granola. It was so good that I ended up buying a big bag off the shelf. (P.S. you can add other toppings for an additional charge. I usually add goji berries) - Strawberry maca smoothie ($9.75): This is made with house-made almond mylk, strawberry, coconut meat, cashiers, dates, vanilla, maca, and sea salt. I am obsessed with this place and I'm not afraid to say it. I think about getting a smoothie or breakfast here whenever there's an option to, and I have some self control to keep myself from coming here every day...my wallet thanks me What I've gotten: 1) Epic greens: by far my favorite smoothie of all! You get a good dose of protein, a taste of that creamy almond butter, and overall, a very satisfying fullness after finishing. 2) Watermelon Berry Smoothie: watermelon is one of my favorite fruits--and this smoothie isn't too sweet and doesn't taste artificial. It's super refreshing and the chia at the bottom added a nice change in texture to the smoothie. 3) Strawberry Maca: pretty good! The strawberry flavor is kind of subtle and I felt like the coconut meat and cashews stood out more to me, which was fine. 4) Peace Love and Kale: This smoothie definitely gives you a good dose of coconut and kale--if you don't like kale, don't get this. The kale flavor is pretty prominent in this smoothie and I didn't mind it at all but I know if you're the type of person trying to sneak greens into a smoothie without having to taste it, go for the epic or marina green smoothie instead. 5) hot protein oats: they give you a HUGE portion! I was SO FULL and I still had a third of it left. They're not shy about stacking the oats and a ton of toppings to the very brim, so you definitely get your money's worth! Probably the best açaí bowl I've ever had. I don't come to Berkeley that often, but whenever I do I will go far out of my way to stop at PJ... it's that good. Ingredients are always fresh, and there are a ton of combinations and customizations to choose from. One day I'll try their smoothies and juices, which also look fantastic, but I am too obsessed with their bowls to have ever tried anything else. The location is also great- plenty of parking, and it's near multiple fitness studios and stores. Great spot to grab lunch or a post-workout energy boost, and there is outdoor seating off the main street, which is nice and relaxing on warm days. I'm genuinely perplexed by the people who complain about the service here... the staff have never been anything other than friendly and welcoming to me. Then again, reading through others' critiques, it seems like they expect employees to greet them with a hug, song, and dance to meet their bar for quality customer service, so maybe I just have different expectations. It is true that when it's busy here, service does slow down... that's kinda what happens when a store has a lot of customers at once?? I cannot say enough wonderful things about this Project Juice. Project Juice as a whole has wonderful products - I've never had a better açaí bowl. With that said, I want to shout out this location specifically. I come into PJ quite often and am always amazed by the cleanliness of the store, friendliness of the staff and the overall organization. They are usually bombarded with customers and they handle it with absolute grace. They've never gotten my order wrong and are always ready to make a recommendation on what I should get. Even though they are clearly working their tails off behind the desk, the staff is always friendly and welcoming. Coming into the store really has become a highlight of my day - I love saying hello to the staff. I've read a few other reviews and am disappointed that others feel they deserve a smile served alongside their smoothie. Great customer service is one thing, but a smile is not required. The staff here is accommodating, kind and hard working. I feel they consistently go above and beyond. The "energy" I get from Project Juice is that employees are working hard and kicking butt at delivering a great product as quickly as they can.
