Early Bird Cafe - Pancakes, eggies, and BACON!! - American Near Me - Pine, Arizona

We ate here during the summer, sometime in June/July, so this review is from that time. From the other reviews I read, we must have come: 1. on a very bad day 2. a change of staff hour 3. a day several chairs broke at once 4. the cook had left and taken everything with him/ her I can't think of any other reason why our food was so mediocre, the staff was ... wait, what staff? To get a coffee refill for my husband was near impossible. I ordered tea : was brought a cup of hot water, a tea bag, more hot water & no offer of fresh milk or lemon. If a restaurant/café/diner offers tea, at least train staff to bring a pot of hot water, a mug or cup and saucer, a spoon, a minimum of 2 tea bags (better yet a selection) and ask if the customer would like cream! The food was bleh, so much so I can't remember and certainly not recommend any of whatever it was I ordered . My husband glanced at his plate, shrugged at his food, looked around and decided, wisely, not to add to my growing frustration and disappointment. Even the decor was sad, but maybe there's a side to sit in we didn't see? A nice wood or wood-like part like in the entrance? We sat to the left as you enter, with 3 guys in overalls from a local company finishing their meal nearby, the counter was a mess, the whole place drab, and maybe the server thought we were tourists.....whatever the reasons for this terrible breakfast experience, I would have preferred to be told they were closing or short-staffed or anything rather than be served unwelcomed. Living five minutes away, I would have come back and probably added another 5 star review instead of this one. Shame management doesn't seem to care about bad reviews or local residents. read more

My husband and I stopped in here for breakfast. What a great experience. The girls working were friendly and easy to talk to. The waitress suggested the chicken fried steak, so we got that along with a half order of french toast. The food was wonderful! The restaurant was pretty busy, but those girls did a great job. We will definitely be returning. read more

What an amazing gem!! We don't live far, but driving to Pine is one of our favorite quick trips. This is the first time we have ever been to this diner and it was amazing. The breakfast portions were decent and the prices more than reasonable! The service was outstanding!! Thank you for a great meal and great experience! read more

This is my family's very favorite breakfast spot. The food never disappoints. Today I ordered eggs over easy and bacon, the kids had french toast, pancakes, and hash browns. All the plates were practically licked clean. Today's food service was impressively fast. We will be back! read more

Food was delicious! It was diner food, greasy but the quality is there. The only issue I had was the poor customer service. The ladies there had an attitude over the phone (since we ordered take out) and same attitude when I picked up. They didn't seem like they wanted to be there and were very short with responses. read more

Best breakfast in town, family owned and run. Great ribs and meatloaf dinners. Love the staff.

This spot was awesome! we were sat down right away and our drinks were taken. Drinks came fast and the waitress was very polite. We all ordered the Early Bird Special (Just 3 different Version). The food was great. Eggs came out perfect and so did the pancakes. We will definitely be back! read more

Hit this place right as we came to town on a Friday night. I ordered the fish and chips special, hubby ordered the southwest turkey Philly sandwich, we both got iced teas. The iced tea was delicious, in tall plastic tumblers that the waitress made sure stayed full, even though the restaurant was busy. My fried fish was outstanding, so moist and flaky, perfectly prepared, with crispy batter coating. The fries were irresistible and the Cole slaw reminded me of KFC's, which is my favorite. It even came with a brick of warm sweet corn bread and butter. I was full way too soon and couldn't finish my yummy meal. Hubby's sandwich was piled high with turkey warmed on the grill, fire-roasted green chiles, and soft roll. We couldn't wait to return for more! Two days later we came back to check out their breakfast menu, and were not disappointed. I was eager for the shredded hash browns, which were crispy on the outside and soft and moist inside, just the way I like them. Hubby is a sausage gravy connoisseur and theirs was outstanding, including perfectly seasoned sausage patties on top of the tender house-made biscuits, generously topped with sausage gravy. Eggs were cooked so beautifully, not overcooked but not slimy -- that's a challenge, especially in the numbers that this restaurant must produce every hour to keep up with demand. Portions were more than generous, food arrived quickly and without error, and again the iced teas stayed filled, despite the restaurant being super busy. The wait staff was efficient, courteous, friendly, and handled the never-ending stream of diners with ease. If you're looking for decor or fancy dishes, you'll be disappointed in this place. If you're looking for generous portions of outstanding traditional diner food perfectly prepared and served quickly by a waitstaff who knows how to get things done, this place is worth waiting in line. We can't wait to return! read more

Breakfast was great! Service was very good. I would return over and over again. Thiis is a really cute place.

We enjoyed breakfast there two mornings in a row. The food is perfect, the coffee hot and the service is with a smile. The pancakes were rated 5-star by my husband. They were tall and filled the plate. I loved my sausage omelette. We love breakfast out and this one was a real winner in our book! read more

We have been coming here forever. We love this place for breakfast. Always busy because the food is so good. Even when it's super busy, they get you seated quickly and are fast in the kitchen. Highly recommend read more

Best biscuits and sausage gravy I've ever had in a restaurant. Pancakes are yummy too

Really surprising!! As pretty much the only place to get breakfast, my hopes weren't high, but it was so good!! The biscuits were fluffy and moist and homemade and my French toast was really good- you could actually taste a hint of cinnamon and vanilla. The service was also great. If we lived in the area we would totally be back! read more

Friday night fish fry all you can eat is never a disappointment. Ordered half and half baked and deep fried, homemade cornbread, whipped butter, homemade blue cheese dressing for mixed greens salad, coleslaw like grandma's and a solid baked potato with real sour cream. Served by hard working locals who are always happy to see return customers. Our to go order was hot and handed over with a smile. Could tell cause no one is wearing a mask. That should change to get 5+ stars to keep Life good in Pine for all. read more

Fantastic little small town diner. Great breakfast good service and easy and quick to get in and out.

We love going to have very reasonably priced breakfast at this local cafe when in Pine at our cabin. Everything is tasty. Pancakes are large and fluffy and biscuits and gravy are some of our favorites. French today is yummyD well. We've been there many times and love this local favorite. read more

Excellent service, and THE best breakfast cafe near the rim. My wife had the breakfast burrito, well only half of it because it was huge. We boxed the other half, and I really enjoyed the other half within their homemade salsa the following morning. I had the biscuit stacker smothered with gravy and believe it's the best sausage gravy around AZ. Great biscuits and perfectly cooked eggs too. This team has it down! read more

This place was the pits! Dirty, bad service with an attitude and the food was awful. We always try to patronize a locally owned restaurants vs. a national chain. This place sends me right down to Payson for a McDonalds breakfast. read more

We were up for just the weekend and are here twice for breakfast. It is so delicious! Definitely one of the best french toast I've had and great sausage links! The biscuits were amazing and fluffy!!! read more

The food is alright, too greasy but it's a diner so that's normal. The waitresses are very rude and the bussers gave us better service and were very fast. They were always busy but the waitresses were gossiping behind the bar and constantly gave them more work and it made me feel so bad for them because the waitresses hardly did any work. Our waitress threatened to beat up a busser for putting a milkshake in a to go cup instead of a dine in cup. That was very unsettling, I was only trying to eat out with my sister and I'm getting scared for the waitresses. Not at all a relaxing place. read more

I've been here for breakfast a few times and generally the food has been pretty good. However, this time I went for lunch and the food was pretty terrible. I ordered a burger, which was near burned. The onion has basically zero flavor, and the tomato was a barely red end piece with the middle missing from the stem. Basically, the burger was dry and lacked almost all flavor. I'm amazed at how little flavor this had. As for service, it was....meh. Was it bad? No. Was it good? No. Basically, the ladies did there job to a minimum. Never saw a smile or any effort of any kind to create a pleasant atmosphere. It was just them walking around placing things on tables and writing down my order. This is an area in which a small town place like this should shine. Heck, I'd even come back to give the food another try if I there was a little effort to be friendly, smile, share a joke or anything with the customer as to not give the impression of "I can't wait until it's time to get off work." read more

Wow, you can't go wrong having a great breakfast here! GREAT wait staff and the food was out quick!!

The food was good and reasonably priced. Unfortunately, the experience kind of ruined that. We ordered take out, thankfully, because the staff was extremely unpleasant. No one seems happy to be there, one employee even complained loudly while we were there about not being able to leave, only to have another staff member snap at her to get back to work. I happened to glance back into the kitchen and noted that it was pretty filthy, and they are completely disregarding mask and social distancing guidelines. Being in a small town is no excuse, many Pine businesses are doing a great job keeping safe. read more

I ate breakfast here on Memorial weekend and this place was top of their game. 5 stars for quality of food and service. It is family owned. Mom was cooking in back and the daughters were taking orders. I ordered the breakfast burrito. A large burrito that you can custom build. I had sausagez, egg, hash browns, and mushrooms. They ask if you want the hash browns on the side or in. They have great hash browns. It made for a great burrito. My son has the 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 meat combo. My new favorite breakfast spot. read more

Good breakfast food (lots of it on your plate), coffee strong but not bitter, nice people, prices good. Was told by another customer, who lives in Pine by way of retiring from Scottsdale, that the homemade pies really are homemade by a woman down the street from the restaurant, and every one she makes is good. Bathrooms clean, good parking. Ambiance is friendly and cheery. Decor is chickens and it would be cute if the place remodeled from the 1980's to today. Oh well, to quote a famous rock star, "you can't always get what you want!" But I got what i needed, a yummy breakfast. read more

Great for breakfast. This is a simple diner style place offering big breakfast plates and great prices. It's standard home fries, pancakes, omlettes, bacon and eggs. This little diner spot was exactly what we were looking for on a Saturday morning. Plus it's a deals place! No wait, huge portions, and hot coffee. Food came out hot and quick and the "short order" of biscuits and gravy could have been enough for 2 of us. Husband was happy with the corned beef and it was relaxed enough that when baby started to fuss no one was bothered. The service was prompt and friendly. We've been here often for breakfast. Went several weeks ago. Food was good, went to pay my check, dropped a coin on the floor, went to pick it up and there was a baby cockroach running across the floor. I don't know if I'll ever be back read more

This place was a cute diner with tasty breakfast foods. I would recommend the Eggs Benedict or the Biscuits and Gravy. Would have given five stars but no masks were worn by staff and service was without a smile. Also flies were very present during the entire meal, and a large swamp cooler was pointed at our booth so our food got cold very quickly. read more
