Hit this place right as we came to town on a Friday night. I ordered the fish and chips special, hubby ordered the southwest turkey Philly sandwich, we both got iced teas. The iced tea was delicious, in tall plastic tumblers that the waitress made sure stayed full, even though the restaurant was busy. My fried fish was outstanding, so moist and flaky, perfectly prepared, with crispy batter coating. The fries were irresistible and the Cole slaw reminded me of KFC's, which is my favorite. It even came with a brick of warm sweet corn bread and butter. I was full way too soon and couldn't finish my yummy meal. Hubby's sandwich was piled high with turkey warmed on the grill, fire-roasted green chiles, and soft roll. We couldn't wait to return for more! Two days later we came back to check out their breakfast menu, and were not disappointed. I was eager for the shredded hash browns, which were crispy on the outside and soft and moist inside, just the way I like them. Hubby is a sausage gravy connoisseur and theirs was outstanding, including perfectly seasoned sausage patties on top of the tender house-made biscuits, generously topped with sausage gravy. Eggs were cooked so beautifully, not overcooked but not slimy -- that's a challenge, especially in the numbers that this restaurant must produce every hour to keep up with demand. Portions were more than generous, food arrived quickly and without error, and again the iced teas stayed filled, despite the restaurant being super busy. The wait staff was efficient, courteous, friendly, and handled the never-ending stream of diners with ease. If you're looking for decor or fancy dishes, you'll be disappointed in this place. If you're looking for generous portions of outstanding traditional diner food perfectly prepared and served quickly by a waitstaff who knows how to get things done, this place is worth waiting in line. Ordered half and half baked and deep fried, homemade cornbread, whipped butter, homemade blue cheese dressing for mixed greens salad, coleslaw like grandma's and a solid baked potato with real sour cream. Excellent service, and THE best breakfast cafe near the rim. My wife had the breakfast burrito, well only half of it because it was huge. We boxed the other half, and I really enjoyed the other half within their homemade salsa the following morning. The food is alright, too greasy but it's a diner so that's normal. The waitresses are very rude and the bussers gave us better service and were very fast. They were always busy but the waitresses were gossiping behind the bar and constantly gave them more work and it made me feel so bad for them because the waitresses hardly did any work. Our waitress threatened to beat up a busser for putting a milkshake in a to go cup instead of a dine in cup. That was very unsettling, I was only trying to eat out with my sister and I'm getting scared for the waitresses. Not at all a relaxing place. read more

The food was good and reasonably priced. Unfortunately, the experience kind of ruined that. We ordered take out, thankfully, because the staff was extremely unpleasant. No one seems happy to be there, one employee even complained loudly while we were there about not being able to leave, only to have another staff member snap at her to get back to work. I happened to glance back into the kitchen and noted that it was pretty filthy, and they are completely disregarding mask and social distancing guidelines. Was told by another customer, who lives in Pine by way of retiring from Scottsdale, that the homemade pies really are homemade by a woman down the street from the restaurant, and every one she makes is good. Bathrooms clean, good parking. Ambiance is friendly and cheery. Decor is chickens and it would be cute if the place remodeled from the 1980's to today. I've been here for breakfast a few times and generally the food has been pretty good. However, this time I went for lunch and the food was pretty terrible. I ordered a burger, which was near burned. The onion has basically zero flavor, and the tomato was a barely red end piece with the middle missing from the stem. Basically, the burger was dry and lacked almost all flavor. I'm amazed at how little flavor this had. As for service, it was....meh. Was it bad? No. Was it good? No. Basically, the ladies did there job to a minimum. Never saw a smile or any effort of any kind to create a pleasant atmosphere. It was just them walking around placing things on tables and writing down my order. This is an area in which a small town place like this should shine. Mom was cooking in back and the daughters were taking orders. I ordered the breakfast burrito. A large burrito that you can custom build. I had sausagez,egg, hash browns, and mushrooms. They ask if you want the hash browns on the side or in. They have great hash browns. It made for a great burrito. My son has the 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 meat combo. This little diner spot was exactly what we were looking for on a Saturday morning. Plus it's a deals place! No wait, huge portions, and hot coffee. Food came out hot and quick and the "short order" of biscuits and gravy could have been enough for 2 of us. Owners are very nice folks however, the restaurant has entirely too many "flies" flying around most all the time & they have so far chosen not to control the dirty fly issue.
