Stopped in for a late breakfast with my kids. No wait, which was nice. Staff was friendly. We all thought the food was delicious. We had eggs, bacon, hash browns, pancakes, toast, coffee and tea. All was good, except the strawberries on the pancakes tasted a little funky. But the pancake itself was great. The service wasn't bad but it was a little unclear who our actual server was because it seems like they all just jump around and I would have liked someone to check on us right after the food was served because we still were waiting for waters and needed more napkins. But were half done before someone came by again. It wasn't a huge deal and I know short staffing is a problem so , cutting some slack here since the food was so good. read more

Perfect little breakfast spot in our peaceful, sleepy town. There's not many places to grab a coffee and a good breakfast here in town but this is my favorite place to go to do just that! Seems that locals and travelers love this place, I see all walks of life come through here. The staff is very friendly and easy going, happy to talk to you and serve whatever you need. Also a good spot to check out what local services are offered in town with their bulletin board in front. The views from their front patio are great too. My favorite thing here is the "stacked" biscuits and gravy, which is a biscuit topped with eggs, sausage and then covered in gravy. Leaves me stuffed and still craving for more. Forgot to take pictures but they give you a lot of food. The eggs were cooked perfect and they buttered my toast with lots of extra butter like I asked. They had lots of staff so my coffee was always filled and our water never got low. Nice place in the heart of Pine, Arizona. My friend and I ordered the breakfast special with eggs, bacon, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, and a pancake. The food was served fresh and hot, cooked to perfection. (It took them less than five minutes to bring it to our table, too!) We still had some left over and boxed it up to take home. First time trying this place for breakfast. Waitress mentioned that one of the chef's didn't show up for work, so one guy was doing it all... Took a good 45 minutes to be served and place was hardly busy. Chicken fried steak was obviously frozen patty with canned gravy... Wife didn't eat more than 5 bites. I had corned beef and eggs. Corned beef was burned until black on top and eggs were rubbery. Orange juice tasted awful. Coffee was okay. Hash browns good. $30 for a crappy meal for 2. Next time we will just make our own breakfast or head to McDonald's. read more

Had the biggest pancakes I've ever seen in my life here--they were very good! My husband ordered a breakfast burrito and he enjoyed his. Lots of options for creamer flavors, the coffee was decent, but it was a little difficult to get basic things like a cup of water or some extra napkins since it was busy and only 2 people were working. The food here is good. We enjoyed breakfast and the service was great as well. If you want to fill your belly with some good comfort breakfast food and coffee, and you are in the area, this place is worth eating at. On my visit I noticed it was a little messy inside; however, I suspect this is due to changes that had to be made to fulfill COVID requirements. It has a rustic appeal and good old fashioned country breakfast vibe going. The breakfast burrito's are huge and definitely filling. July 7, 2020. Got out of Phoenix for the day and cruised in through Strawberry and Pine to cool-off. The Early Bird was open for indoor "dining". Shouldn't call it dining. Feeding would be a better word. Two waitresses armed with zero enthusiam or sense of customer service. Basically robots programmed to do the absolute minimum. Food was fine, albeit with no creativity. There are only a couple of eateries in the area, but with the surrounding beauty of these mountains it should inspire a business not smother it. Stopped here for breakfast! A little hole in the wall type place. It was full of people when we came in... Got seated right away. Staff isn't overly friendly but they're busy and keeping up taking care of everything so I'm not gonna be up tight about that. This place had amazing food. Although, the place isn't that nice. They need new floors and seats but that didn't stop us from eating here. The price is great as well! I got a 3 item omelette that came with a biscuit and hash browns. My bf got a biscuit and gravy meal and altogether was less than 20 dollars. The food amount was perfect too, it wasn't too much or too less. Every time we go up to Pine to visit the cabin, we will always make it a priority to stop here before we go back home. My wife and I ate there later on a Saturday morning and were instantly impressed by the attentive, friendly service. Then we were excited to see a series of gluten-free options, which was unexpected in a small town café. Their gluten-free coffee cake was awesome! I had the Denver Omelet with the pancake, and my wife had the Chef's Salad. Everything was on point. The Chef's Salad was massive with plenty of meat and cheese to satisfy any apatite. We liked it so much we skipped the free breakfast at our hotel in Payson and made the drive to enjoy it again on Sunday morning. On the second visit they were very crowded with people waiting to get in. The staff was "running", but they never skipped a beat. Service again was attentive, friendly and swift. Food was delivered quickly and was delicious. We are definitely eating here again on our next trip to Payson / Pine / Strawberry. I told them when I paid "You guys are top notch. We ate here during the summer, sometime in June/July, so this review is from that time. From the other reviews I read, we must have come: 1. on a very bad day 2. a change of staff hour 3. a day several chairs broke at once 4. the cook had left and taken everything with him/ her I can't think of any other reason why our food was so mediocre, the staff was ... wait, what staff? To get a coffee refill for my husband was near impossible. I ordered tea : was brought a cup of hot water, a tea bag, more hot water & no offer of fresh milk or lemon. If a restaurant/café/diner offers tea, at least train staff to bring a pot of hot water, a mug or cup and saucer, a spoon, a minimum of 2 tea bags (better yet a selection) and ask if the customer would like cream! The food was bleh, so much so I can't remember and certainly not recommend any of whatever it was I ordered . My husband glanced at his plate, shrugged at his food, looked around and decided, wisely, not to add to my growing frustration and disappointment. Even the decor was sad, but maybe there's a side to sit in we didn't see? A nice wood or wood-like part like in the entrance? We sat to the left as you enter, with 3 guys in overalls from a local company finishing their meal nearby, the counter was a mess, the whole place drab, and maybe the server thought we were tourists.....whatever the reasons for this terrible breakfast experience, I would have preferred to be told they were closing or short-staffed or anything rather than be served unwelcomed. Living five minutes away, I would have come back and probably added another 5 star review instead of this one. Shame management doesn't seem to care about bad reviews or local residents. read more

My husband and I stopped in here for breakfast. What a great experience. The girls working were friendly and easy to talk to. The waitress suggested the chicken fried steak, so we got that along with a half order of french toast. The food was wonderful! The restaurant was pretty busy, but those girls did a great job.
