I was looking for heirloom pumpkins for decor and for a still life painting. The crew was watering the mums when we arrived before noon opening on Sunday. The mums were luscious and just starting to bloom. A cart selling Noble Coffee had a lazy aging dog sleeping underneath. Pumpkins and gourds lined the building in neat rows. I found a blue pumpkin that I needed. When the shop opened, kids headed towards the fields for pick your own pumpkins. I was surprised that raspberries were still on the vines for you pick. I headed into the shop to look around. Spencer bottles and sells their own salad dressings and preserves. Fall and Christmas giftware was out. But, a case full of pies caught my eye. Peach, blueberry, cherry, apple and more. I selected a slice of blackberry. I enjoyed my pie outside on their little patio. The pie was delicious. (They The They also sell fudge and ice cream.) The winery is a new addition since my last visit. The winery wasn't opened, but I will check it out on my next visit. Spencer Farm is a great place to visit and pick up fresh produce.

I had the chance to accompany a friend to Spencer Farm for a relatively brief visit. While it was pretty brief, I was impressed. Spencer Farm was started by, you guessed it, the Spencers - Lori and Kyle. It started out as Spencer's U-Pick in 1982. They started out with strawberries. By 1986, they moved to a new farm on Cherry Tree Road. They expanded to include red raspberries, black raspberries, blueberries, and chrysanthemums. They've added pumpkins, asparagus, grapes, Christmas trees, and their son founded a winery that now also sits on the farm grounds. Spencer's now does pre-picked, you-pick, and wholesale fruit. In 2008, they further expanded the farm with a variety of Indiana products including ice cream, fudge, pies, jams, jellies, etc. As you can tell, I immediately wanted to see their sunflower field. I love, love, love sunflowers. One of the reasons I'm not particularly a farm dude is because farms are seldom very accessible. While Spencer's isn't perfect, there's a STRONG effort here to be accessible. I was honestly surprised and impressed. You could send me to the gift shop, and I could be a very happy camper. I will note that they have a strong photography policy. It's on their website, but if you're taking professional equipment I'd read the policies first as there are requirements. There's an awful lot to love here. The people are friendly. The farm is well laid out and surprisingly accessible (the fields obviously have some issues - they're fields). There's accessible parking close to the entrance. This would be a great place for families. Children should definitely enjoy it. There's a strong element of faith here, and that's radiated in the beauty of the surroundings and the service.

They offer U-pick apples & Pumpkins or if you're in a hurry they're ready to grab from the red barn. Pumpkins are super reasonably priced at $.40 a Lb or pie pumpkins for $3. The concession stand is open on Saturday & Sunday. I love the fried biscuits with apple butter & of course you must get the apple cider slushies!! I don't remember seeing it prior, but they had apple cobbler warmed up with ice cream, delicious! I just love this place so much! This 200-acre establishment offers around 50 acres of apples, 30 acres of vegetables, 20-25 acres of pumpkins, and a greenhouse among other options. There's a small cafe here. There's U-Pick apples, of course, along with U-Pick pumpkins. There's flowers galore, a variety of food items, exhibits classes, tours, and more. They take credit cards (no WIC or SNAP). There's no general admission to get into Tuttle. There's also no parking fee. There are fees for certain activities, and there are obviously fees for items that are sold. There are over 2,000 items in their farm store. I'm a definite fan of the donuts. Yeah, I know. What kind of weirdo goes to an orchard and gets a donut? Me. I'm that weirdo. More than 90% of their plants sold are grown right at the orchard. Tuttle has been around since the early apple trees were planted in 1928. It's now fourth generation Tuttle, though the owners are actually named Roney at this point (but still in the family). Accessibility? Better than expected and obviously intentional. Perfect? Nope. It's an orchard. No orchard will be perfectly accessible, but it's quite good and employees are helpful as much as able. Parking lot offers parking options. They've worked with disabled students, and the hayride is wheelchair accessible. The pumpkin patch is a dirt path, however, for the most part I found it workable. Some may need assistance. The only accessibility issue in most places would be the crowds, as Tuttle can get quite packed - especially on weekends. Tuttles does ask for advance notice for those with disabilities if possible, especially for groups, so guides can adapt material as needed for age/developmental level. Overall, I really enjoyed this visit. It wasn't my first time to Tuttle, though I'd never remembered it well enough to be comfortable reviewing it. After a recent visit, I remembered why I always enjoyed it so much. It was more accessible than expected, everyone was friendly, and a side benefit is really watching all the kids around you have such a good time. There's a reason so many consider an orchard visit a fall tradition. Tuttle Orchard is a great place to start that tradition with your friends and family.

My sister and I had the best day at Anderson Flower Farm! This flower farm felt magical…read more Upon arriving, we were greeted by the Flower Farmer and owner -Lois - and the Farm owner -Don. This farm is family owned and you can tell that they put so much love into this business. It's a beautiful thing to see. Lois and Don explained to us how picking at their farm works and what sort of flowers and greenery we should pick. You have the option between at $35 bucket (the largest picking bucket) a $25 bucket and they have $5 buckets for kids. We went with the $35 bucket and it was huge. They taught us how long the stems need to be and to use the garden shears to cut the stems at an angle. Then they let us roam free to pick! We were there bright and early at 9AM and we were the only customers so we had the farm to ourselves. We spent the next hour and a half picking flowers and greenery. It was so peaceful and beautiful on their farm. When we were finished we went back up to the counter. Lois taught us about some of the different flowers we picked and answered any questions we had. We paid, and then we were on our way! When we got home we arranged our bouquets. We were able to get 4 bouquets out of all of our flowers which was awesome! Be sure to bring your own bucket for transporting the flowers! They provide the picking buckets, but you definitely need one for transport. We had SO much fun at the flower farm. I can't wait to return later in the summer. I HIGHLY recommend checking out this amazing family owned business, it's something special!

Kadeem is really eager about introducing farm life to city kids and helping make the comfortable and knowledgeable. I loved the way he allowed them to interact with the animals in ways they would never be able to other places. He does not restrict the kids and uses everything as a learning opportunity. My daughter was upset we had to leave without the alpaca. We will definitely be returning again. They also do petting zoo and horse rides for parties.
