The office is excellently organized, and the staff is both attentive and highly qualified. Everything runs smoothly, everyone knows exactly what to do, and the entire operation is truly professional. Dr. Raymond Ruckman is absolutely amazing. He is highly knowledgeable, checked everything thoroughly, and took his time explaining the results. Even though I only came in for a routine prescription, Dr. Ruckman dedicated a significant amount of time to my care and caught an underlying issue that needed addressing. His assistants were also outstanding and incredibly supportive throughout the process. As a bonus, their frame selection is fantastic--they carry unique styles I couldn't find elsewhere (though, to be fair, Deputy Optic has a great selection too). I spent two hours going through tests that at the time felt off but since they were taking the time I assumed everything was okay. They had the worst selection of glasses and I really wanted to go with them because I wanted to support the business. WISH I HADN'T. They charged me over $300 for my office visit and they got my prescription 100% WRONG. I now have a pair of $600 glasses that are completely useless. They then forgot to schedule my appointment for a fitting in their system which they had confirmed on the phone with me and then treated me AWFUL when I went in for the fitting. How can families afford an office visit like this and not even get an accurate prescription?! I was so mad with how I was treated and what they gave me that I went to Vision Works in the mall for a second opinion. The front desk staff at Vision Works were beyond amazing, the optometrist listened to me and within twenty minutes had my prescription perfect. Vision Works only charged me $95 dollars.

Frannie assisted with the selection and she was very nice. She provided me with a register receipt for the glasses and told me that I would receive a detailed receipt when I picked the glasses up, however I did not receive a detailed receipt - not at the time of pick-up, not mailed or emailed. When I received the text that I needed to call and make an appointment for pick-up, I did just that and I was told to just come by, that I didn't need an appointment. I asked if I would get a fitting if I just dropped by and I was told that I would. I live in south Gardnerville, traveling to north Carson City, so I wanted to be sure the 40 minute trip wasn't a bust. I called ahead the day I was going to pick up my glasses and was told again to just come by and I was given the time they go to lunch so I wouldn't come by while they were at lunch. When I arrived, there was another gentleman picking up his glasses. When he got his he commented that "they just hand them to you and say have a nice day". I didn't fully understand what he was saying until it was my turn. The very nice employee at the front desk brought out my eyeglasses and I asked if someone needs to check them on me to be sure everything is right - how the progressive lens lines up - if the nose guards fit correctly for long wear, etc. She said it wasn't necessary. The glasses I selected are frameless (as in NO FRAME - just the side arms) with a progressive lens and they cost more than $900. I received a 30% discount because I am a patient of Dr. Seljestad, which sounds wonderful, but the glasses still cost over $600. The problem I have is that I didn't get a detailed receipt or a fitting or the courtesy of a follow-up call to see how the glasses are working out. I'm definitely going back to Costco the next time I need eyeglasses - they have affordable pricing and they include excellent customer service with your purchase.

I was greeted by Tatiana at the reception desk with forms I needed to fill out. I was promptly taken to the exam room where a few preliminary exams were executed very professionally and with care for sanitation. I was then guided to another exam room where Dr. Lori Steyn conducted my eye exam. She and her assistant took such good care of me. Everything was thoroughly explained, and re-explained when I didn't understand what was being discussed. One of my initial exams came up a little funny, and was promptly done again to ensure there were indeed no issues. Completely thorough, fully profession, extremely personable. From the check-in, through the technicians' exams and finally meeting Dr. Friedlander, I was happily surprised at the professionalism. kindness, and complete explanations I received by all. I believe that Dr. Friedlander will be there for me if or when I need further care. Yeah!, I had to wait a while, but it was worth it.

Her staff is to be commended as they truly represent the doctors well. Hannah, who assisted with my most recent visit, listened and thought about her responses before she gave them. She explained the different exams that were going to occur and she gave me immediate results, which I appreciated. It turns out I can still see. Dr. Brewer arrived in the room with a burst of energy. She asked about how I was doing, cared about how I was doing, and then we began their exam. Like Hannah, Dr. Brewer told me what was happening. The whole time was patient as I asked silly questions and I came away with the opinion that she really did care. So, I guess you could go to the mall. But I don't think you'd get the quality care you get here.

I do remember the last full evaluation was done at the UC Berkeley Optometry clinic and that it was a long appointment. I've carried vision insurance for years, of which Gayle has used. But for some reason I didn't place this kind of health-related care at the same level as dental or medical. A high school friend, who is also a retired optometrist, convinced me to go, if only to confirm that I didn't have any glaucoma, macular degeneration, or cataract issues. Gayle has used Valley Care and has been very happy with Dr. Brewer. So to push me along, she made that appointment for me. The only "bad" news from the appointment was that my dependence on reading glasses wasn't really enough and that I needed progressives. The good news is that my vision didn't need that much adjustment and my eye health was A-OK. What a relief! The professionals at Valley Eyecare know their business well, and I felt that I was in good hands. That included Dr. Brewer's friendly and efficient manner, and the staff that supported her work. Later on, Gayle and I stopped by to pick up the glasses we picked out, that were largely covered by insurance. The fittings went well, and all I have to do know is get used to the progressives. Maybe I'll add some prescription computer glasses later, to compliment my screen time.
