I went to Eagle Peak yesterday for the first time after hearing great things from my friends who have gone there quite often and have been shooting their whole life. I had only been to an indoor shooting range (Red's in Pflugerville), and they wanted me to try an outdoor. I had gone with my two friends (a couple) and his father. We only had a chance to try the rifles, unfortunately. My girl friend and I were shooting their Ruger 10-22. Her husband was shooting his 22lr, and his dad was shooting his .223. Now as huge fans of Eagle Peak, my two friends were aware of the "no full metal jacket" (FMJ) rule, but they were not aware that his father was shooting with that ammo. He, himself, was not aware he had FMJ ammo. During the cease fire, the range officer, Sam, came up to my girl friend and asked us if the FMJ ammo was ours. I don't know anything about guns, so I stayed silent, but my girl friend answered all of his questions. She explained it was not her FMJ ammo, she was not shooting with it, but it must have been her father-in-law's since the range officer picked it up from the number he was sitting at. The officer started to explain why FMJ is not allowed at Eagle Peak, but my girl friend said she knew why and that she was fully aware it was listed under the rules. Sam got incredibly frustrated with us and sarcastically yelled at us, thanking us for being "so courteous." As a bystander, I feel like he went over the top, for someone who was not rude, or breaking the rules on purpose. When my guy friend and his father walked back from their targets, he asked him to pack up and leave. We packed up as well because we were wanting to switch to shotgun at that point anyways. My friends' father left and we went back inside. Sam came back and yelled, "I thought I kicked all of you out!" We asked, "Why us? We weren't shooting the FMJ." We went back inside and talked to the two people at the counter. I didn't know their names, but they were both much older, seniors, a woman and a man. They were both willing to help us at first: heard what we had to say, the woman offered a refund, and apologized for the experience we had. The gentleman went back outside to talk to Sam while we waited, and then came back inside and said there was nothing more he could do after all. No refund, no more shooting for the day. Just FYI: customer service does not work that way! You don't offer to help the customer and then take it back. Sam lied and said we were all shooting the FMJ ammo when none of us used the gun that my friend's father was using. I didn't agree with the way Sam handled the situation when I thought he was just kicking out my friend's father because it was an honest mistake and we were all very cooperative and calm, but he was yelling at us like some ex-marine or drill sergeant. I definitely didn't think anyone deserved the treatment we received yesterday, and it looks like my friends are taking their business somewhere else. Whenever Sam is no longer there, I will consider going back. read more
