Used Santa Cruz Armory to transfer a new gun after a frustrating experience with a local FFL. They offered a great price and where helpful. As soon as they received my gun I got a call from Robert and headed up to Santa Cruz to start the paperwork. Now be warned Santa Cruz Armory isnt a brick and motor shop per say, its more of a shed behind a house in a neighborhood. This had me completely confused when my GPS told me I had arrived, but a quick call and Robert was walking out to greet me. Both Robert and Wess are professional guys and they had a small assortment of CA legal AR stuff for sale. Obviously this is a new business, but if they continue to offer great service at a reasonable cost I dont see any reason it will not grow. read more

This place is great. Rocky is very knowledgable and friendly. He helped me navigate the fuckery of California gun laws as a first-time legal gun owner. For example my second transfer there he reached out to have me double check if I got the Cali legal version of a gun, which I didn't and was able to cancel it in time to not lose any money and order the right one. He also gave me the 4-11 on local shooting ranges. Keep in mind this is not a big gun shop with a huge selection, its essentially a small mom and pops shop. I don't normally write reviews but after my experience with both Rocky and Chris at Santa Cruz Armory I had to! I am pretty new to guns and I don't have much knowledge about the lingo or brands but I was never made to feel stupid, like I did at Sportsman's here in Campbell. I would drive over the hill any day for their excellent service and great prices. I am a strong believer in treating people how you would like to be treated and these guys get that. I know I have a lot to learn and always have a bunch of dumb questions but they would always take the time to explain and offer suggestions. I never felt pressured into buying anything unlike some local shops that would act like I was wasting their time. Chris and Rocky are both very knowledgeable about guns and pertinent California gun laws. I knew from some reviews the store was not that big but I really like the peaceful feel when you pull up and for a small store they sure pack a lot of guns and accessories in there. I am sure with their amazing customer service they will move to a larger store but truly I like the family feel of this shop. I recommend Santa Cruz Armory to anyone who will listen. In 2015 and then again in 2016 they were at an NRA dinner and auction event. I had heard good things about them but hadn't dealt with them until 2015 at this event. Prior to them being at the 2015 event, ANOTHER armory was present and I had told my husband the jack ass representing that armory was a complete dick head to an older woman who came to the back of the event to give paperwork on a gun she won. He was a douchebag with a chip on his shoulder. When S.C. Armory worked the event last year and this year, they were super kind, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable. We also attended a third event they were at this year and every single one of them were helpful and just fun to be in the same room with. When my husband went to the armory to start the paperwork on the guns he had won, they again were super kind and knowledgeable. They do things strictly by the book and for that alone they get 5 stars. They know Ca laws, they are all super kind and friendly. I can't wait for the next event we attend and they are there, they make it all a pleasant experience. Good for you S.C. Armory, way to show your competitors, stay classy and kind! read more

Rocky is very helpful. He offers good service, he's friendly and respectful. He keeps his appointments and I'd use him again in a heartbeat. If you need help 'yesterday', Rocky might not be able to help you, but then I don't know who can. While I had to wait for a couple of weeks to pickup my gun, that was no big deal to me. Guns.com sent me a California non-compliant version and SC Armory sent it back once they received a shipping label from Guns.com. Rocky didn't ding me a dime for that, which was thoughtful and appreciated. I recommend 'em. read more

Casual atmosphere, clean shop, very friendly and attentive staff, but...where are the guns? I understand that it is a small operation and maintaining a gun store in California can be a challenge but I think I saw maybe a dozen handguns in all? That may also be a generous estimate. There were a few shotguns and AR's on the walls but, again, it was slim pickens. Not a knock on Santa Cruz Armory as I'm sure they could order in whatever I'd like without a problem, but it'd be nice to have some product to ogle over and window shop. Again, great people and nice place but not the place to go if you're looking to browse or see a wide selection of firearms. I assume that everyone that thinks the prices here are good are new to firearms and don't know how to do a Google search. Several guns I'm interested in cost $100 less than what is at their store so I could save money buying online and then transferring however I'll still get charged $75+ for that. Now I understand a store has to make a profit but I'm often in the predicament of how I want to purchase a firearm because I don't know if being ripped off in transfer fees is more of a hassle than being ripped off on the price at the store. Now that price is out of the way I do have to say the service here is excellent compared to the typical curmudgeon run gun shop. I assume being young I get associated with the COD playing trust fund kids of Santa Cruz rather than the veteran who grew up in a state with firearm freedom so I often have a hard time getting past the lying BS of many gun shops. Fortunately the guys here aren't pretentious and act like I've never held a gun, and I'm sure they're great for people who haven't. I would love to give them a five stars and I'm sure every white collar person will however I just can't get over how much more I have to pay to buy something from here. It's 80% AK and AR receivers for me because of this but maybe one day I'll be a little less stingy and overpay for a handgun I can't mill out. read more

Short version: Good people, effective at what they do, giving good service with good prices. They're currently open evenings and weekends - it's a small, starting-up business and the owners don't do it full-time ... yet Longer version: I recently decided to purchase my first revolver, a S&W TRR8. Santa Cruz Armory had the best price available (via Gun Genie), although not the best price anywhere on the web. Back and forth a few times with Robert via e-mail, settled the details, he verified that their distributor had one in stock and asked them to hold it, I called in my credit-card number and ... the next day, there were NO TRR8s in the distributor channel - the one was sold out from under us, and the others sold out the day before. Dang. Robert offered that if I found one on the Web, I could have it shipped to him for the transfer. Since I like to support local business, I asked him to check for an MPR8 instead - basically the same thing, with a few mostly cosmetic differences. He found one for $8 less than the TRR8. A few days later, I swung by to start the paperwork, and as I write am impatiently sitting out the waiting period. In person, Robert and Wess are friendly, personable guys and have a good way about them - or at least they did when I came in with my fiancee to do the paperwork. Will I go back to them again? You betcha. Other things being equal, I like the feeling I get from these guys much better than at some of the other shops in the area. read more

Much larger location than the last one. A fellow and I went here to do a PPT, and they let us in pretty much on the dot at 10am (maybe a minute or two earlier?) The fellow behind the counter (Bob?) proceeded to conduct one of the fastest PPTs I've seen, while showing another employee how he was doing everything and making small talk. Very pleasant, comfortable, and easy, and it makes me a bit let down that I'm an hour+ away, or I'd want to come in more often. The gun shop without the gun shop attitude, indeed! Oh, and they know how to deal with C&R transfers, which can be a huge plus for those of us that are FFL03s. If you're using Google Maps to get here, it's a little tricky, but after a few minutes cruising around the parking lot the big white and black sign will help you figure it out. read more

I've gone to Santa Cruz Armory several times, purchased several items, called, emailed and anything else I could think to do to test their commitment to quality products, top-notch customer service, and treating me like I was a million-dollar customer even though I'm far from it. They always go above and beyond in every single area. I've started to recommend my friends to this little shop and they've all given the same reviews. To me, customer service trumps price, but when you get great customer service at a cheaper price for the top-quality products, you've found a real winner! So far I've only dealt with Rocky and Chris. Both are knowledgeable and don't pass judgement for asking questions or tell you your choices aren't good ones. That's rare in the gun store culture in my experience. read more

pretty expensive prices. There is another gun shop about 1/4 mile down the street with much better prices on everything across the board. I have had previous good experiences with Santa Cruz Armory when it was up in Ben Lomond so I wanted to try and stay loyal to them. A few months ago I was interested in a small Bersa .380. I asked if they would price match what it is was being sold for right down the street, and they just rolled their eyes and laughed at me... For $29 this place lost a customer for life. These guys have been around awhile in the San Lorenzo Valley. This location in Scotts Valley is very convenient. The staff is still consistently friendly and knowledgeable. Very solid shop. I will continue shopping at this business and will recommend this place to my friends and family. At this time, this is the best gun store in Santa Cruz County... hands down. Santa Cruz Armory has helped me with two transfers, plus all of my questions as a new owner. They're always incredibly welcoming and friendly, living up to their motto ("The Gun Shop Without the 'Gun Shop Attitude'"). They don't have a huge selection of products, be it guns or other things, but I wouldn't really expect that of a small shop in Santa Cruz. What they do, they do incredibly well.
