Extremely disappointing experience -- poor communication, lack of preparation, and zero…read moreaccountability.
We hired DJ Quick Hire for cold sparklers and fog effects at our wedding reception, and unfortunately, I cannot recommend this company.
Communication was a major issue from the beginning. My fiancé and I repeatedly called and texted Chris leading up to our wedding, often receiving no response. On August 5, just three weeks before our wedding, I explicitly told him we were feeling uneasy because we still didn't have a finalized plan. Chris apologized and explained that his company was handling 5-9 weddings per weekend, making it difficult to respond to everyone. He promised everything would be finalized that day.
We originally paid $675 for cold sparklers and a fog machine after Chris assured us he had experience providing these effects at indoor venues. When our venue required a different machine, we contacted him about the alternatives he had previously mentioned. We were then charged an additional $295 for the venue-approved ice machine. Coordinating this dragged on until weeks before our wedding, leaving us feeling we had little choice but to pay.
In total, we paid $970 for effects that were not delivered as planned.
After repeatedly requesting a phone call, we finally spoke with Chris, who reassured us that his associate would have everything prepared and ready to go. We then emailed detailed instructions specifying the EXACT moments we wanted the sparklers activated during our first dance, along with instructions for the fog. We even rearranged our reception timeline to accommodate his team's setup.
Despite all this preparation, the execution was extremely disappointing.
One of the three sparkler machines did not work at all. The other two were not synchronized, and the effects were delayed by at least 10 seconds, missing the moments we had carefully selected. We had spent so much time practicing our first dance and planning these cues, only for them to be missed on our wedding day.
The fog was another disappointment. We had agreed it would be used during our cake cutting, which we specifically moved earlier to accommodate his team. Instead, it unexpectedly started approximately 15 seconds into our first dance. There was also little to no visible fog on portions of the dance floor, as shown in our photos.
We asked the associate if he could provide fog during our couples dance instead. He agreed but never returned, and the fog was never provided.
What makes this experience even worse is Chris's complete lack of accountability afterward.
On September 16, I sent Chris a detailed, respectful message explaining every issue and requesting a partial refund. I even offered to discuss everything over the phone.
He never responded.
I followed up on September 18, September 23, and October 7, informing him that we would leave a review if we continued receiving no response.
Still nothing.
We weren't demanding a full refund or expecting perfection. We simply wanted acknowledgment and a reasonable resolution for services that were not delivered as agreed.
Weddings are once-in-a-lifetime events. We communicated clearly, paid additional charges, adjusted our schedule, and did everything possible to ensure things went smoothly.
Mistakes happen, but completely ignoring customers who raise legitimate concerns is unacceptable.
The most disappointing part isn't simply that things went wrong. It's that we raised concerns weeks beforehand, were reassured everything would be handled, and then were completely ignored when those promises weren't fulfilled.
Our first dance is a moment we will never get back. I sincerely wish we had chosen a different vendor and would strongly caution other couples considering DJ Quick Hire.
